We speak with civil rights attorney Ben Crump about the police killing of Roger Fortson, a Black 23-year-old Air Force member who was fatally shot by a Florida police officer mere moments after opening the door of his apartment. Fortson’s family says the police had arrived at the wrong home and that Fortson had grabbed his legal firearm as a precaution. Police body-camera footage shows Fortson answered the door with his gun at his side, not posing an imminent threat to the officer, who immediately shot Fortson six times. “The Second Amendment applies to Black people, too,” says Crump, who has represented victims of police violence in many high-profile cases. The police claim that officers were responding to a domestic dispute is contradicted by the fact that Fortson was home alone, Crump says. “They need to go ahead and admit that it was the wrong apartment and quit trying to justify this unjustifiable killing.”

So, he opens the wrong door - highly unlikely, but probably not just unthinkable, so let's believe it so far. He steps in... and doesn't recognize that everything inside is different? Different wall colors, different flooring, different furniture... no, he still thinks he is in his own home and instead of stepping right out he closes the door behind him and gets so annoyed by a policeman banging on the door that he draws out a weapon? How likely is that to happen? Even if he is really, really high at the moment it seems absurd.

This so often happens when a chief of police is ( allegedly ) running an illegal private security business. These illegal businesses use our tax payer equipment, desks, lights, telephones, cop man power and in many cases double bill the city and bill the paying customer that needs the private security services. The cop then pays the button nose chief of police a bit something something.. This is called RACKETEERING. 3 OF the criteria for RACKETEERING is hierarchy, intimidation, and fraud. There is no time off for bad cops. To the public it looks like they are on paid vacation, but mostly the cops work this illegal private security business. The only one fooled here is YOU!!!!!! Also, most cops drink vodka to sleep at night. They may have pulled you over and you would never know. Or could you. The big giveaway is the menacing, belligerent, confrontational, aggressive dangerous grainy VODKA VOICE. When you get pulled over , make as little contact with an alcoholic cop. If I rang police and reported a domestic going on at your house then they visit you to investigate. Are they not at the right house investigating a domestic? They're not claiming that there really was. They're claiming they were at the house they meant to be at.

I am surprised they released the whole video. Last year a white neighbor came to my door called me a n..ger, and threatened to harm me. I called the police who she told the same thing. When I requested the bodycam video to take the matter further, the portion with the threats and racial epitaphs were removed! I still can't get anybody to address it. 😢😢

The United States Air Force needs to send a jag officer down there, and do a thorough investigation of that Sheriffs department, it has only been two years ago, but two of the same Counties sheriffs department arrested. A man searched him handcuffed him, locked him in the back of a patrol car and an acre and fell out of a tree. Scared the cop and both deputies emptied their firearms into the patrol car. Something is seriously wrong with that Sheriffs department and Oka Loosa county.

And I am not going to my door with a firearm unless I need to defend my life or my family's life. He should have kept the door closed and locked and either quietly observed the peephole OR called out and said "who is it?" while in cover to get an ID call. I don't answer doors. Had a negative experience with cops several years ago.. They lied about the reason they were called to my house. No probable cause no reasoanble suspicion no exergent circumstances. I got cussed out by the racist cop because I told him to get warrant. Oh yes, he called me all types of black bitches that day. I told him that i wanted to know the name of his insurance carrier. He threatend me and my husband that if he lost his job due to me putting a claim against his insurance he would be coming after me and my husband. I told him that's was fine, we'll be waiting on him.

The deceased opened the door, holding his gun in a downward position. Despite the officer's order for him to step back and the clear observation that he posed no threat, the officer proceeded to fire six bullets into his body. This act is nothing short of outright cruelty and barbarism. The officer owes us a clear explanation for his actions. They had direct eye contact before the shooting began, with no hidden motives. There must be a reason behind this execution. It's not a mere mistake or oversight. It suggests either the officer is part of a corrupt department, experiencing a mental breakdown, or was influenced by external forces.

I wish this comment would reach Attorney B. Crump. For me, it was too long before it was mentioned that the Sheriff first knocked on the door and then stepped away from Roger's view. Roger opened the door and didn't see anyone...then closed the door. The Sheriff then knocks again and announced that he was from the Sheriff's office. It was then that Roger returns to the door and opens it. Worthy of note is that the Sheriff calmly asked him to "step back"...as soon as Roger Stepped back he was fired upon...he had no idea is life was in danger or that he was doing anything that alerted the Sheriff. After the shots were fired...THEN the Sheriff started yelling "Drop the gun..." It is telling that the Sheriff CALMLY told Roger to step back...The Sheriff was not threatened (he cannot claim to have been afraid for his life), this was an intentional killing...

The kid acknowledged he knew it was the police and he still opened the door and brandished a gun to a cop which by the way is illegal in pretty much every single state and in Florida it’s a first degree misdemeanor that carries a fine and jail time. The problem is blacks in America think this only happens to blacks because that’s all the media shows them and thinking that way is ridiculous. Did you not see the video a couple of days ago of police arresting an innocent white woman and putting her face into a pile of fire ants while she got bit over 300 times? The exact same thing happened in Dallas a few years back. A female cop went to the wrong apartment (I believe she claims she thought it was hers by mistake) and killed the black guy who lived there. I think she only got 10 years.
