I see a lot of negative comments about detail of this movie. In 1951 the budgets for the hundreds of westerns wanted by the general public were minuscule. They pooped out western after western using same sets , locations , etc. ..... why ? ..... budget constraints ..I love these old " B " westerns and always liked Sterling Hayden as a Lead. A good story and preamble to the start of the Civil War. Thank you , Western Mania , for posting this very good western !

The point about budget restraints, among other nefarious taints of the 1950s, also applies to many of the horror and noir genre films that proliferated as costs came down when the prices of the tools used by the majors became affordable. The same goes for musical instruments and recording tech which allowed for mutant mixes like that devil's noise, rock and roll. And hip-hop and punk.

@@billsadler3 I was ready to agree until you said " devil's noise " on rock and roll. I would hazard a guess that you must be from the Deep South. I love rock and roll.

Correct, the Public enjoyed Movies for entertainment, nearly every town with 3,000+ people had Movie Theatres. There was no TV yet, Radio Shows and Movies.
... and Corporations haven't changed, (other than what they were forced to do.)
The focus is and always will be "Profits and Profit Margin".
⭐ (They did and will write budgets below the expected performances.)
Reuse of "Sets and Props" is most understandable, using guns that weren't accurate to a particular year is reasonable, they are Movies, ie: fiction, not Documentaries.
The areas that deserved larger budgets were the: Writers, Strangers and Composers of Music, Production Staff, and various Actors. Wage increases in those positions factored to costs to the Profit Margin, and the Owners were/are unbelievably greedy.
Thus the Screen Actors Guild aka SAG, and other Unions, necessary to get reasonable hours and pay.
People who aren't familiar with the era can assume, accuse, and be as judgemental as they want to be, their Lower Mind is just that and they are so accustomed to their learned attitudes and chronic complaining that it will just take time for them to discover: Adult is merely Physical Age, but the Mind requires Maturing through choices and practice.
They can read a book, listen to a worthy speaker, or stay where they are in their negative thoughts and expectations ...
The point is, the "Universal Law of Attraction" is Absolute. We all are creating our own reality.
The desires are received through Positive Energies and Frequencies.
Until they trip over the facts ...
In the meantime, just got to wish them well.

In the days preceding the civil war, southerners try to sabotage the building of a railroad. Sterling Hayden stars as a federal officer sent from Washington to pose as a construction engineer to see that the railroad must go as scheduled! There are some battles and killings that threaten the safety of the people building it0-finally there is a resolution to the trouble and the railroad goes on at the end of the flick! Sterling Hayden was a good actor in other movies like suddenly and Dr Strangelove but he was erratic in his behavior and that may have cost him some roles-he shines in the film 🎥 good western to watch! 😊😊😊😊😊😊

if you go to Victoria Kansas out on the west edge of town past the bridge that crosses over the North Fork of Big Creek you'll find a grave site where 9 men who were building the Kansas Pacific railroad were killed by Indians in 1868 as the rail was being pushed through at the time.

Born in 1951. The Southerners - Confederates - were determined to destroy this Great Country and not all Southerners were "Disloyal" to the Jacksonian Democratic Ideals of the Constitution. They were not "Separatists" and/or Traitors against the Constitution. One of the deciding factors that contributed to the eventual US Federal Government's success in the War was the completion of Continental Railroad. Turning out to be a decent flick. Thanks.

Read a really good book on how there was a Civil War within the Civil War Separatist from Deep South State of Alabama. Loyalist from the North were formed into the First Alabama Cavalry, U.S.A. Silent Cavalry by Howell Raines - 2023. Alabama born - Hill country - Winston. A little redundant on documenting how the "Just Cause" ideology would alter not only their state history but influenced influential historians in Cornell University to teach their justification for being traitors against the Constitution of the United States. This led to the KKK and Jim Crow Laws for continued Racism and Bigotry in the USA for over 100 years after the end of the Civil War. Not bad for the side that allegedly Lost the War. Book is tedious but authentic in its presentation.
