@@jaiguru8487 it is all relative. In my humble opinion anytime I am outdoors I consider it real. The Cairngorms provide different challenges to a fell walker than say the Peak District; both are real and both equally valid.
‘Wrong bottle’ brilliant! That’s a mistake you’d only make once Paul. I like these multi day videos I find them much more interesting than the ‘one night stands’ although I understand that one nighters are easier to arrange at short notice. Was there not a bothy you could have bailed out to when the heavens opened? Always worth a thought when in Scotland. A great video Paul, thanks.
Ah I see where you were now, the White Mounth 5 round Loch Muick. Fantastic day(s) out. Glad to see that the Cairngorms rolled out her entire splendour for your visit. I was smiling the whole time knowing exactly how you felt. Haste ye back!
Bring an umbrella, it protects you from heavy rain, wind and sun. You can use it like a as walking stick, when not in use. And you can use it as a windshield when cooking outside.
Another awesome video Paul! That storm was crazy, but I guess it all adds to the adventure! Glad your kit held out. Great to see some amazing views towards the end once the clouds had cleared! 😊
There’s something really nice about rain on the tent when you’re tucked up and warm. That was more like a monsoon though to be fair. Great vid as usual.
I did lochnagar in 1 climb. Did broad cairn, hoping to do the circuit, in 40m driving wind and rain with an organised group only to pull the plug after 1 peak. Moved down south but this circuit haunts me!!!! Would love to camp it!!! Such a stunning part of the world
Really want to get up to the cairngorms one day. Seen it so many times on TV and got to say you made me a tad jealous of your 3 days up there. Awesome video.
Wow mate, that rain was relentless.. at least the tents all passed the ultimate waterproof test lol.. great video as always pal, I'm only at the beginning of my camping / filming / youtube days but i can appreciate it ain't easy hiking in that kind of weather let alone filming ! Keep doing you Paul.
Scotland is so beautiful, it's a shame the weather hid that from you guys on this trip. But man did your gear get tested. Glad to see you stay in good spirits throughout. Piss poor weather can really bring your mood down if you let it. Thanks for sharing, Paul.
Your post is well-timed with you hiking through the Queen’s favourite part of the UK as her funeral cortège left nearby Balmoral today. The lodge at Glas Alt Shiel in the wooded area on the opposite bank of Loch Muick on your descent from Broad Cairn was a favourite spot for the Royal Family to have many picnics in that area.
I love that kind of wet landscape. Growing up in a constantly dry part of North Queensland, I yearned for rain. Now I chose wet, cool places to go and hike. This looks like heaven to me!
Fair enough wanting a bit of rain John but be careful what you wish for. There’s nothing romantic about the idea of getting stuck in the storm in the highlands
At last, Something Wild in "wild camping" I love that sort of weather and I appreciate it's not for everyone. but bring it on!!! The air is full of tension, the wind clears the cobwebs, and the soul is lifted on high. Enjoyed the video. ATB Cheers from the mountains of NZ 😀😀

Respect @Paul Messner, done that walk before, cracking view when you can see something. I would have bailed out to the bothy for a night to dry myself out. Classic Scottish summer weather there!
Love the weather, it is so beautiful. I think I will steal the brilliant idea of baggies to keep my feet dry! So glad you didn't give up Paul. Great video!!
We just got back from the nc500 and Orkney. Had a real mix of weather from glorious hot sunny days on the West coast to rain on the East coast. It all added to the trip though. One of our best trips ever. The Cairngorms ate breathtaking if you get the weather. Sorry to see you got heavy rain there.
Watching this reminded me of when we got caught in a thunder storm near the top of Great hill in Lancashire. Lightning landed about 50metres to the l;eft of us and we all dived into the ditch at the side of the path on the right. It was a dry ditch when we went in. Half an hour of keeping as low as we could till the storm passed. Like the man said, Once it starts you are best staying where you are. ⛈⛈⛈
Stumbled on this vid in my daily YT feed. Great post! I'm never happy unless it's raining but, is it just me or does it never simply rain in Scotland? Instead, the sky opens up and crashes down like a ton of bricks. I guess nothing is half-assed in Scotland! Hearty blokes you are. Liked this so much I subscribed with notifications. Cheers.
Paul, an absolutely 💯 amazing, beautiful, brilliant video! I do admit that I hold my breath seeing you get so close to the edges of the cliffs, especially in the wind and rains. By video's end I was "happily exhausted" and breathing easier again. You, Sir, are the Real Deal as we say on this side of the pond. Meaning: True Blue to the adventure. I loved ♥ every second, every view, every fog that settled. Prefect.
Dang. Not like you're going to find some dead trees and make a fire to warm up! A great reason to make sure you stay dry and have the right gear. Looks like fun!
Scotland had a good summer but recent weeks has seen some seriously wet weather if you get caught in it. I was fortunate to have great sunny Autumn weather for a four day cycling trip last week. Stayed in newish static caravan at a site near Oban. Luxury. Day trips and comfort at night. You certainly tested your wet weather kit.
This reminds me of the time I camped in a typhoon in Japan, I'd just bought one of those cheapy "CloudUp" tents from Ali and it not only survived fully in-tact but also kept me dry the whole night. I didn't get a wink of sleep though. It's certainly an experience, camping in a storm, but it's an experience I'm glad I had. Keep on with these videos Paul, it's nice to see the UK again, I do miss Old Blighty.
Bloody hell Paul, that was a proper storm and no mistake. I was out hiking today and got a good soaking but nowhere near what you endured. Thanks for sharing
I grew up in Scotland and my parents took us on camping holidays. It was always raining when we went, I remember the skin on my feet looked dead like the skin over a blister, because I couldn't get dry. I always loved fishing, swimming, hunting, exploring, cycling, but sitting in a tent, soaked, making tea and doing nothing else, sucked the big wan!

Me too but a light shower is relaxing. A deluge is not so peaceful!
When ever I’ve put a tent up,I’ve heard that sound. Even in caravans I’ve heard it. British weather for you.

Love weather like that - it tests your kit, your skills, your endurance, and most importantly your resilience. As always great video Paul!
