Hi Pete .., Really nice to see al those Dutch bands, I grew up with listening and see them live .. Finch live was fantastic, but for me Supersister was the best !! great live band and always very funny .. I have from Earth and Fire Atlantis a different cover art more like Song of the Marching Childeren inside artwork last year Focus did a 50 year tour and I have seen them playing in Valkenburg,on a very nice location, the concert is now on you tube and you have to see this ! another great live band where Alquin' the first two albums are great "Marks' and The Moutain Queen' I think you know them, but if not you have to check then out ... thanks for doing this entry !
So envious of you managing to see these bands live. The only ones I have seen are Focus. Saw them for the first time in 1976 when Philip Catherine had replaced Jan Akkerman. Seen them 2 or 3 times more in the 2000s. Oh and I've seen Akkerman live once. I've heard of Alquin, but I've never checked them out. Will do so now. Cheers...Pete
I really hope that Stephan gets to see this entry Pete. I am sure that he is going to enjoy it. Enjoyed seeing all of the Dutch bands/releases~ Rob/Boston
Hi Pete, Great contest entry! I never realized that Radar Love is of a Dutch band. Focus (and some solo Jan Akkerman) is in my collection. Otherwise, I believe Supersister is the only other band I have that you showed. Finch I definitely have to check out. Take care (and Forza Italia), Richard
Hi Richard. Have you checked out any Golden earring. They went though many phases from beat to psych, to proggy art rock to hard rock. Moontan is probably their proggiest album. If you like Focus you should like Finch. The other act that I'd definitely recommend to you is Trace. Cheers... Pete
Good evening Pete Always new discoveries for me I just have two albums of Focus but not the ones you showed us The same album of Finch you showed and two of Ekseption. Golden Earing I knew for a long time but only in Various compilations because I never had the opportunity to ever see one album. Now I shall go and discover on you tube the others groups you talked about. Thanks again for this rich dutch panorama .
Those two Focus live albums are unofficial albums Gerard - wish they would be released officially. Those recordings do appear on the Focus CD box set I think though. If you want to check out Golden earring the place to start is probably with their Moontan album - my favourite and I think their best. All the best... Pete
being of danish heritage i appreciated this vid! i will be checking out that fungus and earth & fire. i have loved supersister for decades, the finch i scored a copy of a few years back and is a constant on my turntable. cheers.
Nice that you Pete took part of this contest of Stephan, I have watched quite alot to his videos in past two years or so, seems like a cosy chap. I think i have 1 lp and 2 cds of dutch band or artist, so I would need to go to neighbour continent countries to do this, cheers.
Hi Petri, hope you are well. Thanks for watching - I hope you saw something of interest. I'm totally new to Stephan's channel so I need to go back and watch some of his older videos. All the best... Pete
Oh! I loved this. I did a video myself some months back on Dutch Glam in the 70's ("Glamsterdam". I like making up words!) - Herman Brood, BZN, Lemming, Cherry Vangelder-Smith, Hans Memmert, Booby Trap, Heart, The Heavy Dwarfs (best band name ever!), Zingara, Dizzy Man's Band and the magnificent Bonny St Claire. Great Glam Rock, go toe to toe with the Brits! A tall, polite, industrious and hard rocking people are the Dutch!
Never knew there was a Dutch glam rock scene! I'll definitely have to check out your video. The only name I recognised from the ones you mentioned is Herman Brood - though I don't think I've ever heard his music. Thank you for watching and commenting... cheers...Pete
Hi Pete, thanks for the entry. I find it so cool that Focus seems to be the band that everyone mentions. Funny, because they're almost forgotten in their own country. Never seen that Earth and Fire Atlantis before. I have the Dutch pressing which has a very psychedelic sleeve. In a next contest update I'll show some of my picks.
I'm surprised that Focus are not recognised in their home country, but I really shouldn't be as I remember when I visited Italy, great bands like PFM were forgotten too. It's such a shame. Would love to see your picks - always up to learn more. I was due to visit Amsterdam in 2020 and had mapped out all the record stores, but you can guess what happened to those plans! Always think about visiting the mega fair sometime too. All the best... Pete
Thank you! A lot of people don't seem to be keen on 'classical' rock as a sub-genre, but I've always quite liked it. I think I have about 6 of the Ekseption albums now. They were mostly bought off Discogs and were all very cheap. Thanks for watching and commenting... Pete
That's the only album I have by them - don't see their stuff in the wild over here. The only other stuff I've heard is the later poppier stuff. Cheers... Pete
Hi Pete , I was in Amsterdam couple of weeks back and had an amazing vinyl haul trip . Picked up the Finch album Galleons of Passion and the Trace debut . Think Birds is also excellent . Have some Ekseption but the horn section doesn’t quite work for me . Great choices.
Hi Graham. Went to Amsterdam probably 15+ years ago - absolutely loved it. It was a shame I hadn't got back to collecting vinyl then, so only picked up CDs. I had a return trip planned (and paid for) in early 2020 - you can guess what happened to that 😥. Would love to find the other Finch albums. I can understand your response to the horns in Ekseption - I would have agreed at one point - I've grown to be more accepting and to actually like the use of horns. I always would say I didn't like saxophone, even though my favourite bands included Gong, Soft Machine, Hawkwind and VDGG among others, all of whom had sax players 😂!
@@soundsfromthewestcoast9939 definitely recommend that return trip Pete . Harold from Harold’s Prog Rock Show recommended a couple of places and there is a fantastic large store called Concerto that everyone visits . There was an American guy in there buying loads who makes a trip especially every few years . I got some great rare Italian Prog/ fusion and best of all German Prog / fusion band SFF . Recommend a visit !
Fantastic entry Pete, as I expected. That Fungus album sounds interesting. Next time I’m in the Netherlands I will be looking specifically for more Dutch bands. Great choices. Cheers.
Quite right Richard. Golden earring don't get the attention they deserve. They've done a couple of weak albums in their long career, but overall a lot of very strong albums. Cheers... Pete

@@WestCoastBookAddict-zn8hu I have not Pete. Appreciate the recommendations. Some musical targets to try and keep my sanity off of other things.

Excelent stuff. Have some of those. The Exseption album were huge here in Sweden. We owned that one and Trinity when I was young.

Thanks ever so much Richie - very kind of you!
This is very cool
Thank you
