IMCO lighters should light every single time - even if you light it once every second. Fluid amount doesn't matter (until it gets REALLY low), wick doesn't matter (though IMCO flints are better for the lighter), softer flints are better (as long as the flint is dry). To care for this lighter, get yourself a 1/2" diameter bottle brush. If the lighter ever fails - even just once - to light, it almost certainly means the wheel is dirty. Take the fuel tank out, then flip open the lighter cap and use the bottle brush to clean the wheel. Close and open the cap 4 more times (the wheel turns 1/5th of a turn every time you open it) - each time, clean the wheel. After that, the lighter should work 100% of the time.
You seem to know some things about these lighters, so I have a question: I just got an imco 6700. Do I need to oil/grease anything? I'm used to zippos. These things are actually fairly complex, and I worry that some of the metal on metal contact points could wear out over time without grease
1. Use genuine “zippo” lighter fluid. I don’t care what anyone says. It lights better. 2. Take the cotton out of the bottom, and weave the wick through the cotton balls like a snake all the way to the bottom. Do these things and it will strike like a charm every time.
well imo its not really that weird. lighters back in the day where also not invented to light every couple seconds like a butane lighter. cause if you do that, you eveporate so much unnecessary gas. its takes time for the wick to absorb the gas. that why back in the day cigarette smokers most of the time just had matchsticks. the most vintage lighters are also designed for cigars and stuff to flame it every 30min or so. so for an daily smoker i do not recommend a liquid lighter. just get butane lighter.
I have absolutely no issues using my zippos and my imco lighter for smoking daily, I only have to refuel ever so often and they light every single time. Its just about packing the wick in the cotton right and occasionally cleaning them
Also I think my lighter is camera shy , literally after this video it started working 100% of the the time , lmfao .
I've got a 6700 from the 1960's, great lighter. BTW how is your imco doing, still working great?
Hello I purchased a copy imco 6700 lighter and replaced cheap flint and baccon cotton and it lights every time.
