  • Here at BeatGrade we decided to do our own Top Ten series of great producers. This feature is the legendary crew The Bomb Squad. They have produced some of the Best beats and and classic albums of all time. The Bomb Squad dominated the late 80s Hip Hop scene, are pioneers and are a highly respected production team comprised of Hank and Keith Shockley, Eric “Vietnam” Sadler, and Gary G-Wiz. They are best known for their work with hip-hop supergroup Public Enemy-they are the force behind some of the group’s best known hits, such as “Fight the Power” and “Bring the Noise.” They have also worked with Slick Rick, LL Cool J, 3rd Base, Big Daddy Kane, and Ice Cube.

      Don’t Believe The Hype Should had been on the list instead of You Can’t Fade Me . Also I did not know they produce Don’t Be Afraid,but now that I listen to You Can’t Trust It they have similar drum sound and pattern.

      They, and public enemy, never recovered from losing Eric Sadler. They lost him in 1990 and that was the last year PE was a dominant group in hip hop.

    What can I say about The Bomb Squad - No One could touch them ( in my eyes ) in the late 80's and early 90's, only Marly Marl was on their level, all other producers tried to copy and was inspired by them - Even Dr Dre.. The sounds was so Funky, Wild and Rebellious - Love it forever. Peace and Love to Public Enemy / The Bomb Squad.

      Just said this in another comment. You can hear their influence blatantly on all Dre's early production, even when Dre got into the synths and funk sampling, the style of production was HEAVY Bomb Squad! They also made some insane Cube beats that should have made this list too!

    Props for including 'Don't Be Afraid' by Aaron Hall. People seem to forget that they also did some production on the R&B tip. Bel Biv DeVoe's first album. Vanessa Williams 'The Right Stuff'.

    I'm from the south, I remember the first time I heard Can't Trust It, it was during Def Comedy Jam. When the beat dropped, me and my cousin looked at each other with the stank face and then laughed. That was incredible. I will never forget that moment.

      If you read old magazine articles from back then, he admits he was heavily influenced by the bomb squad, specifically Eric Sadler. You can hear the blatant influence in straight outta Compton & 100 miles and runnin.

    This is production on another level. The beats with Chuck D and Flav's vocals took hip hop to the masses before the masses were even ready!!!! The way they cut the sample in Rebel and used that snare to drive the track is still unbelievable, insane!!!!

      This must have been put together by people who weren't listing to hop hop before Rebel came out. When it was put on the radio, it destroyed everything else and for that reason deserves the no.1 spot. I remember playing the recording from pirate radio I made on loop for days and days.

    America's most wanted was a game changer. HE Leveled up the whole game. He made Dr. Dre and NWA look old and frumpy. And the jacking fir beats demolished what was left of the NWA, ICE Cube beef. He destroyed his old crew they never put out anything close to the relevance to ICE Cubes following albums.
