  • It is our first time trying Indonesian street food in Jakarta today. Jakarta has some incredible Indonesian street food. In this video we try martabak manis, pisang goreng, bakmi and nasi gudeg. We are really falling in love with Indonesian street food already here in Jakarta. The location in this video is Jalan Sabang or Jalan Agus Salim, this street is very popular for Indonesian street food in Jakarta. We also go to two other night market locations in Jakarta. Enjoy this Indonesian street food adventure with us.

We often call Martabak Manis, a heart attack temptation because it contains so many calories, but it is freaking delicious 😅👌🙏 and we consider that massive pancake as a snack or desert not a main dish 😅✌️My favourite Martabak Manis is Black Rice with Raisins no Cheese.

Martabak is Indonesian Pancake. Manis means Sweet. Keju means Cheese. Telur and Telor are the same meaning .. Egg. Agus Salim is a National Hero .. the street has been dedicated to his name. It's also known as Jalan Sabang. I must say Your Indonesian is so good considering this is your first time visiting Indonesia. Enjoy.

The spicy stuff you mistook for gudeg was actually cow/cattle skin. The ‘egg’ is really tofu. The actual gudeg is the brown stuff that you might remember for being sweet. Gudeg (Javanese: ꦒꦸꦝꦼꦒ꧀) hails from Yogyakarta and Central Java, their cuisine is notorious for being sweet. It’s not everyone’s cup of tea, Indonesians from other provinces might struggle eating them as well.
The sweet pancake has many names across Indonesia. We call it ‘terang bulan’ in my province, but they call it ‘martabak manis’ in Jakarta and its surrounding area. The vendor in this video uses margarine, but the more legit version uses butter which makes it even richer.
‘Telur’ is the formal form in the dictionary, ‘telor’ is the way it’s pronounced in daily life. You’re right, Jl KH Agus Salim is the more recent name, it used to be known as Jl Sabang. ‘Keju’ is cheese, from ‘queijo’ which is a Portuguese word. No, not everything is a Dutch loan word in Indonesia, the Portuguese came here first.
Pisang goreng with chocolate is actually an Indonesian thing, it has something to do with the fact that we inherited chocolate sprinkles (Dutch: hagelslag) from the Dutch. It only became popular in Malaysia in recent years (they used to complain that it’s weird but now they’re copying it), but still can’t compare with what we have in Indonesia because we seriously overdo it with tall piles of chocolate sprinkles and grated cheese. But you will find savory pisang goreng as well, enjoyed with sambal (spicy relish) or kecap manis (sweet soy sauce) and slices of bird’s eye chilies.

GN from jogja glad you liked our traditional food, so when you eat Gudeg that you're said likes an omelet, it's a tofu = tahu, tahu is made from condensed soy milk while tempe is made from fermented soybeans, basically tahu and tempe is a family.
I'll tell a lil story about Gudeg, In the past, part of the Old Mataram Kingdom was a forest, then the forest was cleared for kingdom land, In javanese language it's called "Babat Alas Mentaok" babat means activities of cut down the forest, Alas mean forest, and Mentaok is the name of the forest. so babat alas Mentaok is activities to open forest area. Discovered by a royal soldier, who found many jackfruit trees in this forest area.
Alas Mentaok is a forest once existed in Special Region of Yogyakarta. located stretches from northeast to southeast of Yogyakarta. Today, starting from Purwomartin Sleman, Banguntapan Bantul, until Kotagede in Yogyakarta City.
The way to cooked Gudeg is by stirring continuously or in the Javanese language is "Hangudek", so this dish is named Gudeg. the one dish of Gudeg consist of chicken, egg, fired sambal potato, tempe, tofu, young jackfruit, and krecek that made from cow skin. In the literature of Hawa Serat Centhini, It's stated that also one of the dishes served to guests of the Mataram kingdom in the 16th century.
    sending love from Yogyakarta ❤️🙏🏻

telor is a telur but betawi people usually say 'egg' or 'telur' as telor (but nowadays, telor are used in daily basis). and for the 'keju', keju is cheese.
oh and btw, I love your content. greetings :)
    dan, salam kenal.
oh I want to explain a little bit about gudeg, another favorite food of mine. so basically, nasi gudeg or gudeg is a traditional food or lauk pauk (a side dishes) from jogjakarta. it was made with a jackfruit (buah nangka) and coconut milk. every person has their own recipe to make gudeg but the typical recipe to make a gudeg is usually wearing a coconut milk (santan) without any additional ingredients. but for the rest of the side dishes such as sambal krecek for example, the krecek was made with a softened krupuk or cow skin crackers and mixed with some sambal, coconut milk or santan and some soya beans (kacang kedelai).
oh I almost forgot to tell, there are two kinds of gudeg; gudeg santan and gudeg manis (sweet gudeg). unfortunately, I don't know how to make the recipe of gudeg manis.

Love to see you guys exploring our capital👍
First of all, Martabak is considered as our “holy” food…kidding😂…but you got amazed on your first bite and the guilty feelings come along coz of those calories in it😁
Gudeg is actually a distinct dish from Jogjakarta (hope you guys will visit Jogja as well)…and that brown triangle thingy is not an egg, it’s a tofu
Really nice to see you guys exploring jakarta…hope you guys can also enjoy the modern side of Jakarta and try all kind of our public transport
    Keep up the good work👏

Jakarta and/or Indonesia are insane with tons of delish food! 1 dish can have tens/hundreds of variety/flavors, look at the variety of fillings of sweet Martabak, variety of Nasi Goreng, variety of Mie Ayam (Chicken Noodles), variety of Soto (some kind of soupy dish), variety of Satay, variety of icey sweet dessert drinks, variety of Sambal, and so on 🫣🥰

These two are legit mad explorers :)) This is a perfect way to have a trip in Jakarta. Hit the road and see if you can cheat the city's notorious traffic and find the great culinary and cultural heritage beneath it. A hint: Indonesia had a brief history under British rule. Sir Stamford Raffles once was a British ruler in Indonesia. There is a small city, south of Jakarta (an hour train ride from Jakarta) where the tomb of Raffles' Irish wife is located. It is within a popular botanical garden that the current Indonesian president chooses to be his official resident. Bonus: You can have a culinary trip in that city at Surya Kencana Street. Find that city! Have fun and be safe!!!

We often call Martabak Manis, a heart attack temptation because it contains so many calories, but it is freaking delicious 😅👌🙏 and we consider that massive pancake as a snack or desert not a main dish 😅✌️
My favourite Martabak Manis is Black Rice with Raisins no Cheese
