Very nicely done!! You could mix the beeswax with a tung oil or linseed oil, so you could apply it by hand. It may seal better (not saying your method did not work) and you could give several thin coats that might penetrate more.
Thanks! The oils are certainly a great finish :) I’m not sure about sealing tiny gaps in between the wood fingers, but i have made wax-oil mixtures since then and they are very nice! Thanks for watching!
What type of runes did you use? Warvyn? What is that? I am not familiar. I am new to leathercraft, what weight/thickness was that leather you were tooling and did you fully case it (dipped in water and let dry for hours and hours) or did you just surface wet it prior to tooling? In the states it's taught having a marble/quarts block to tool on is very key. Pieces of scrap countertops do well, just be careful of sharp edges.
At the time I was making this build I had far less equipment and tools. Nowadays I do have a quartz slab which I specifically use for tooling etc... As for the leather, I used 3-4 mm thick veg-tan leather (not sure what that converts to oz) for tooling. I did not case it, but I did wet the surface with a sponge, let it dry (until cool to the touch but not wet) then I tooled it. Finally, the runes. I used Dwarven. I just looked up a dwarven font on the internet and used it :) Large tankards of ale, seemed like a good nod to the lore haha!
Indeed it was! At the time I wasn't knowledgeable enough to know the difference, but the guy in the shop said it could be tooled...maybe he meant embossed with a hydraulic press 😅
@@CorsoWorkshop Epic mug. My purchased horn mug is too big and I drink too fast at Ren Faires so I either later pass out by the chess board or in the pirate ship (PA RenFaire) or have bathroom misshaps. I think I'd be dead with a mug that size ! Need to cut back on the mead/wines/mixed drinks and switch to beer at RenFaires me thinks !
That was really cool! Ain't nothing in the world wrong with a homemade beer mug! Loved the leather wrap...did you make the bow on the wall as well? I've built a few of them...it looks nice.
Hey! Thanks for popping by and for your nice words! However no, the bow was bought. I am to make one in the future but my current focus is leatherworking at the moment.
@@CorsoWorkshop Cool...looking forward to seeing your leather work again. When the time comes to make a bow, give me a shout if you have any questions. Been a while since I've made one, but I made a bunch back in the day and will give you any help I can.
Nice project...I believe your problem with tooling the leather is that you purchased either oil tanned or chrome tanned leather, neither of which is very conducive to tooling. Veg tan all the way for tooling!
You’re absolutely right :) at the time i had some idea abt different leather tans, but the shop guy said it would be toolable. Haha you live and you learn :)
Epic build my Friend That turned out great 👍 👍 I was going to do one of my own but life got in the way and I run out of time Sorry, Good luck in the tournament! 🍺
Hey man! Thank you for your kind words :) Ran out of time? No need to rush! Just be sure to share the results with everyone! (you can follow the discord link in the description to chat with a lot of other makers) :)
HEARING PROTECTION TOO !!! Especially with table saws and other power tools !! Bee safe !
Damn! Thwarted! You have 2 mugs! Great build, brother!
Skill Tree 😁 your piece is so amazing haha
@@CorsoWorkshop right back at you! And it seems you were able to do yours with FAR less blood sacrifices. I was gonna die the death of 1000 cuts.
Skill Tree 😂😂😂
Nicely done! The leather wrap was an excellent idea!
Cheers man! Leather is such a great material to work with!
I’m working on 5 of these right now. Getting the angled cuts perfect requires a lot of trial and error. I nailed it on a few of them.
Great job Kurt!
Hey there BG! Thank you so much! :D

@@CorsoWorkshop Hell Yeah!
Sounds like the leather was chrome tanned (chromium salts, quicker/cheqper, non-toolable) vs. toolable vegtable tanned leather?

This may be the biggest beer mug in the world!

Thank you so much for your kind words! 😁
The mug looks awesome Corso
Cheers man! :)
Very nice. You have a beer mug the size Thor would drink from, you have Thor’s hammer. When Thor stoping by? Just kidding. Great job!
Lol thanks! :)
