    Avid Dive Talk fan here, although I found you guys in my recommended. I will say this was a FANTASIC video, great narration, great footage and lighting, and I enjoy the fact that you throw out constantly: TRAINING, TRAINING, TRAINING. Cave diving isn’t dangerous UNLESS you’re not trained or your ego is in the way. Love the video and keep posting this great quality content, you’ve earned yourself another subscriber ✌🏼

      @@azdeatherage Wow great trolling, that was SOO funny. Look everybody we have a loser who hates when other people are doing better than him. What a joke. Any Dive Talk video shows an immeasurable gap in content when comparing them to you. I hope one day you’ll be able to happily look at yourself in the mirror and smile rather than finding joy in trash talking a channel that is doing leaps and bounds for the diving community by getting informed people into classes and giving divers even more tips and tricks for the game

      Thank you Jessica! We are honored that you took the time to watch and share your thoughts.
      A large piece of “humble pie” is very difficult for people to swallow, especially divers. Certification comes with a sense of pride in the beginning. I’ve learned that too many divers convert that pride to ego with each level of progression they attain. This makes it very rare to hear a lot of divers admit to the dozens of mistakes they’ve made. Gus and Woody are exceptions to that rule. They openly admit mistakes at the risk of the “elites” making fun of them. This helps other divers to realize that mistakes SHOULD be shared because even if you get a thousand negative comments, but you help just one person, it’s a true success. In the dive community, we only learn lessons from dead people because the ones who made it out alive are either too proud to admit what happened OR they are afraid of being ridiculed. We are trying to change that.

    • @Jessica_xoxoxo
      @Jessica_xoxoxo Год назад +1

      @@FoundInTheRiverAndCaves wow 🤩 I actually have even more respect for you with that reply! You are absolutely spot on with everything you say. It’s sad that your right most feel scared OR ego gets in the way of admitting to making mistakes and learning. Kudos to you sir, it’s always better in every situation to learn and when one believes they are now an “expert” they tend to stop the learning process.

    • @FoundInTheRiverAndCaves
      @FoundInTheRiverAndCaves  Год назад +1

      @@Jessica_xoxoxo you are 100% correct. I recently came under some criticism from fellow divers because they heard we dove outside our certification in the past. Yet these same divers that criticized us were at this years cave diving convention and when the speaker had us all raise our hands and ask us a series of questions, hands were dropping with each question… with about 75 hands still in the air, the last question was “how many of you have NEVER dove beyond your certification level?” Suddenly there were no hands in the air but yet those same egomaniacs feel they have the right to criticize us because our mistakes were publicly discussed.
      We have a big update to give and it will be along the lines of helping others through admission of error so that it may help to save lives. I will provide more info in upcoming videos.
      Thank you again for sticking with us and for your encouragement.

    Well at the time of viewing this video you have 340 subscribers and you’re getting excited to hit 100 here so massive congrats on that! I think the algorithm has you latched to dive talk a little bit which is just awesome. I’m not usually a fan of viewing independent dive videos but this is far from the norm. While this is a spring so you have the amazing visibility going for you in terms of making a video, putting that completely aside here the actual video quality and inviting tone of the narration is what I really liked. I’ve only been to blue springs in FL to free dive but that still has to be one of my favorite places I’ve been anywhere in the world. My diving experience is really only open water a long time ago with much older equipment. Even with that it’s still my favorite hobby by far and I’m extremely excited to have recently moved back to an area where I will be able to dive again, without the massive amount of hassle that comes with diving in very cold water.
    What had me curious here is the two gray pieces on the divers back (currently paused right around the 9:20 mark.) Is that for buoyancy? Or for protection in that tight space?
    Congrats again on far exceeding your subscriber goal from this video and I hope you keep it up!

    • @FoundInTheRiverAndCaves
      @FoundInTheRiverAndCaves  Год назад +1

      Thank you so much for sharing a part of your day with us. We really appreciate the comments as well. The grey things you asked about are the “wing” sections of the BCD. They air bladders that are used for buoyancy but are made of a material that resists scraps and abrasions. So you are correct on both points. Thank you very very much for watching and letting us know what you think. It makes a huge difference for us when you choose to do that. Also, thank you for the encouragement and support. We are releasing a channel update really soon. There is a lot to go over and of course another dive video will accompany it.
      As far as dive sites, if you’re diving Florida, you might want to check out Buford sink. It’s a favorite of free divers and scuba divers alike. It’s the best cavern in Florida.

    I like this video (nice edit/narration). I love diving the Devil's cave system, but I hate having to run the Ginnie Springs Outdoors gauntlet to do so. My friend and cave instructor (Chris B.) taught me the "tricks" to diving this system including (as others have already advised) "get near the ceiling of the gallery where the flow is lowest", "pull and glide" (note: there won't be much, if any, gliding going in), or just "USE A SCOOTER" (no kicking required!!!). If I tried to swim against that flow, low through the gallery, I would be cramping long before the lips and I would waste a lot of gas (I don't need help wasting OC gas). In my opinion, the real fun starts after the turn, when I can relax and "go with the flow"! Thanks for putting this out there. I'll show it ...

    • @FoundInTheRiverAndCaves
      @FoundInTheRiverAndCaves  6 месяцев назад +1

      Thank you so much for watching and for asking such a great question.
      One of the skills required to become certified for cave diving is something called “light awareness”. We use lights for various communications. If we need to get someone’s attention we move our lights in a certain pattern to indicate emergency, yes, no, take notice, etc. for instance if I were having an emergency, I would shake my light very quickly. If I want to convey that I’m ok, I would draw slow circles on the wall or ground in front of my buddy. You’ll see that in the video a few times.
      I hope that helps to clarify your question.

    The video quality is fantastic. As a rec diver and as many cave dive video's I've watched, I just don't get the attraction other than the tech side of it. I guess some folks like me prefer 80 degree water, a shorty, lots of pretty fish and coral and having a drink on the beach in the afternoon. ;) That's being said, maybe telling us how you started diving and how you ended up cave diving might be fun. For us lazy vacation divers that want to visit the FL springs; any must do's on your list?

      Thank you Chris!!!! Great points and phenomenal question. We will discuss this in an upcoming video.
      Big thanks for the compliment on video quality. We are new to the videography and photography, try to turn out better videos with each one. Ginnie was filmed on a day that everything lined up perfectly for us, and I know it shows. So far it’s the one that gets the most “wow” comments.

    I noticed you weren't pulling and gliding your way through the cave. Is there a reason? I've learned that using your arms rather than your big leg muscles to travel in a high flow system really helps conserve your air

      @@michaellambert2976 thank you so much for taking the time to watch and comment. From your question, I can tell you know a thing or two about cave diving. Sounds like you are a cave diver and have been to Ginnie quite a bit. 👌🏻
      You are correct, we did very little pull and glide on this one. My camera rig pretty much dictates that I use two hands with it so I didn’t get to pull much. We had thought about just going up to the top of the cave where flow is significantly less but the boys wanted a challenge. They said we couldn’t make it to keyhole in the flow because we are “too old”. It was tough but we got a free lunch out of it. 😎

    great footage, I'm not cave certified so haven't done this but maybe one day. Just an observation, and everyone has an opinion, but it seems the diver in front of you would be better served by a frog kick in those tighter areas. The flutter stirs up the bottom, and wears you out quicker. Of course you all probably already know that, is the frog kick just not strong enough to propel you against that current?

    • @FoundInTheRiverAndCaves
      @FoundInTheRiverAndCaves  2 года назад +1

      You are spot on with regard to the flow in the tighter areas. It was INTENSE on this particular day. If you look again, even in the larger areas the flow was insane. To your point, normally he would be frog kicking. The flutter kick can really screw up a cave divers day if used improperly. If you have time to check our latest video “What is a Silt Out?”, we do a few flutter kicks when we turn our dive to show how bad things can get, very quickly.
      Thank you for taking the time to share some of your day with us and for the gracious comments.

      @@jintermont thank you so much for taking time out of your day to watch, and thank you for your thoughts and encouragement. It really means a great deal to us. Keep in mind that you can start diving at any point pretty much. I was 330lbs when I started diving and Paul was a smoker AND was close to 325lbs when he started. I don’t know what locations you have that you can learn to dive in, but here in Florida there are MANY options that are very peaceful and less than 30ft deep. It really takes away the fear of being eaten by a shark or other ominous creature. If you ever plan a 4 day getaway to Florida, you can get certified on a weekend. You will fall in love with it.

Yeah there's a couple dive places here in Albuquerque but it's all pretty much pool training there's really not too much here The Rio Grande is way too murky and just doesn't seem like it would be a good divePretty much the only other thing I really know of other than a few lakes here is there is the blue hole in Santa Rosa which is where Mike young lost his dive buddy a couple of years ago. I hesitate to comment at the risk of sounding critical, but Diver 3 needs to work on his buoyancy control and propulsion techniques. Take a look at, e.g. 9:25, 10:13, 11:24, 16:34 - he should only be using a frog kick and staying off the bottom to avoid kicking up silt. If you were in most other caves and didn't have the volume of flow carrying the silt away, the amount of silt he kicks up could result in the cave being so silted up that you wouldn't be able to see your way back out. It would also make it impossible for anyone else to dive the cave until the silt settled back down....

    • @FoundInTheRiverAndCaves
      @FoundInTheRiverAndCaves  Год назад

      It sounds like you’re a fellow cave diver. If you know Ginnie and The Devils Ear then you will understand the deviation from the Frog kick for some. The flow is always pretty solid and his knee was giving him a bit of trouble so the flutter was not a problem. But, to your point, we would have passed on the dive that day if it had been Peacock or most other systems. Silt is not a problem in the first parts of Ginnie. I’m not sure if you were able to hear the part explaining his leg issue.
      We normally swim at the top of the Ear where flow is considerably less.
      Thank you for watching and for commenting. It’s important to let non-divers know that you are 100% correct in your assessment. We did realize he would not be in perfect form that day, and Ginnie is much more forgiving than almost any other system when it comes to your observations.
