Designing a simple alley in Sketchup [Timelapse]

  • The goal of this model was not to produce each house/building in its entirety, but enough so that a shot could be made from one view.
    This video is sped up about x15 and the model took about an hour to make.
    The first 2-3 minutes of the video didn't record properly so i removed it.

    i sound stupid but..... do you plan what do you make like sketch em out 1st then create? or vision em 1st then create as you go?

      Not a stupid question at all! For this one I had a super basic idea and then just drew block by block backwards until I got fed up, so mostly I just went with the flow as I worked. Lately I'm more inclined to plan out the whole thing really quickly and blocky first to get good balance of design. I sometimes sketch on paper first as well.

      I'm mostly winging it, but I try and keep the measurements realistic.

      On the menu bar, "Window" > "Default Tray" > "Materials". You can use colours or textures, click the colour you want it to be and then click your object.
