It’s the smallest metro area in the league and its income per capita is much lower than the other Canadian NHL cities. They camharge high ticket prices just like all the other teams do, but fewer locals can afford tix there than in other cities.

I thought the hart trophy race last year was pretty big. It had McDavid and Kucherov both getting 100 assists as well as Matthews nearly getting 70 goals. MacKinnon won it because had the best all around season as he led the Avs, who may have even been a fringe wildcard team with out him, to the 3rd division seed. It was a blast watching the race and looking at the stats every night
Latvia beating Canada is not that big a deal. They are an improving country and their Mens team at the World has been very competitive for the last half dozen years.
As someone who isn't a fan of Buffalo, I hate how out of context quotes like that are taken. His comments essentially boiled down to, "we need to start winning in order to be able to draw in free agents/get off no trade lists because the elements out of our control (taxes/weather) aren't in our favor." He gave the example of the Bills who struggled to draw players during their 17-year playoff drought but when they got Josh Allen and started winning people wanted to play there.

As someone who endured the decade of darkness (2010-2020) as an oilers fan, the run last year holds a special spot for me. It was an incredible feeling seeing the light at the end of the tunnel (the Stanley cup) and I never forget all the painful years that finally paid off with an incredible season. To be contending for the cup and not a first overall pick is enlightening.
Those first overall picks, from those season's of suffering, may have been the reason for reaching the finals last season. I am hopeful they or another Canadian team brings the cup back soon.

After having gone to a game in Winnipeg and sitting up top, I can understand why some people are saving their $. I think it’s because the place was built for the AHL and then they had to make do, but they have a number of seats with poor sight lines, but the tickets aren’t sold as such. You just get to the game and find out.
where were you sitting? There isn't a poor sightline for hockey in that entire building. The old Arena was awful, seats behind beams etc, but not in CLC. Yes its small, but that is because the City wouldn't allow them to build in the footprint they wanted. They built where they did because the owned the land already. All profits have been re-invested into the arena, they have basically re-built it from the inside out.

Regarding the Jets attendance issues. The game day experience is not good for fans in the 300 level because their audio system is just so so bad. You cannot hear announcements or any of the sound. It’s muffled and hard to make out at best. Feels insulting as a fan to pay money to go watch my team and the org doesn’t care about fans who fill out the upper parts of the arena.
I agree with these ten items. Ovechkin didn’t reach a career milestone, but if he stays healthy and breaks the NHL career goals record in 2025, it’s a top ten story. If he stays a few more seasons and breaks Howe’s combined NHL/WHA career goals record, that might be the #1 story for any year it would happen in.

The Columbus Blue Jackets have a great following in Columbus and Ohio but not really elsewhere since they're a newer team (relatively) and haven't had much success in their history. Considering what Columbus did to save its MLS team, I bet they'd go all out again if the Blue Jackets were threatening to move.
Guy Lafleur was a bust after his first three NHL seasons. On the other hand Jimmy Carson and Dion Phaneuf were headed straight to the Hall of Fame after their first three seasons. I guess people need something to talk about and when they talk about young players early in those players' careers, often what they say is stupid.
So tired of hearing about jets attendance numbers from people outside the market. Its not a fanbase or economic issue. This is all due to the organization mismanaging/abusing its customer base and not realizing the numbers had nothing to do with covid. Team has finally recognized this and is slowly earning back its customer base but still has a way to go. This is the first year season ticket sales have increased since 2019.
Jets need to get more corporate support! Individual ticket sales are high percentage-wise. Give Jets fans a break! This was a sports media obsession that will disappear IF You LET IT. Back in 2018, several members of junior team Canada after winning juniors, allegedly gang raped and sexually assaulted a woman after one player picked her up at a bar. The initial investigation stopped, but it was later found out that Team Canada used taxpayer money to pay this woman off. The investigation reopened and several players in the NHL were charged with sexual assault and other charges.
Celebrini better than Bedard? Who knows how great he will be in years to come, but my vote is for Bedard. Boy is like magic. And he too clearly is not ready yet. But what comes to new talent of past couple of years. Level is pretty insane if you ask me. Just this years rookies. Ive sat in many different sections of the 300 level there is literally no bad site lines
I go to several Jets games in the year, mostly in the cheap seats. The sight lines are great: the atmosphere festive. The chants, hilarious.
