I talked to the biologists today about how this goofy weather is going to impact the pike and walleye spawns. The consensus was who knows - we'll see. Speaking of goofy, it took me some time, but I eventually found the channel cats in 2.4 feet of water this afternoon. Water temp = 50.4. Rip the pole out of your hands aggressive on a day I would historically be ice fishing. Crazy times.
Funny you should bring that up. Niki and I were just saying that it would be interesting to pick the brain of a fishery biologist on how the early warm up will effect the spring spawn. I might be catfishing sooner that later with these temps.
From what I understand the fish will spawn when the eggs are ready. Regardless of water temperature. The problems are egg incubation and availability of food for free swimming fry. The return of barge traffic often coincides with the walleye spawn. And that can greatly affect mortality of the fry. A hundred miles down river the fish still seem to be in a winter pattern last time I was out a week ago.
Always enjoy your videos, a little more when the 2 of you are fishing together. Watching you use the hair jigs im tempted to use them at the local dam. TIGHT LINES
Niki makes my life more entertaining 😁! I plan to go into more detail on how I fish a jig in the next video. Also, if you visit our website ww.anglerxoutdoors.com I am writing a blog series on fishing a jig. Thank you for the question!
I rarely use live bait for spring walleye. It's an effective way to catch fish but walleye are aggressive at the right times and you can get good action using artificial baits. A minnow or a nightcrawler will definitely get fish but it's not required.
‘I believe it’s your wife’s twist on Beyoncé’s ‘If you like it then you shoulda put a ring on it!’ Niki’s take is “If you like it you better put a burger on it” is referring to her BUNS and you adding your burger to it? My apologies, but that is simply my perverted take on it. 😊
😂 Oh my No! 😂 I just love a good burger and since we had some in the fridge, it was all I could think about. I don't need rings, I just want a burger and fries. (Although, he did put a ring on it 😉) - Niki
@@AnglerX Saugeye. The thicker body and lighter color make that fish pretty easy to distinguish I just looked through 11 years of Lake Carlton saugeye pictures I have, and I couldn't find any two fish that look alike. It's amazing all the different blotches, spots and coloring that occur in this hybrid.
You must have noticed that the last three videos were in the same pool. I try to mix it up and fish as many pools as I can. Check out some of our older videos! I can't give up all of my spots 😉 Thank you for the comment!
Thanks for your comment. The Walleye is a member of the percidae family and pike is part of the esocidae family. While walleye are often called walleyed pike or pike perch, the walleye is not a true pike. - Niki
Check out our website www.anglerxoutdoors.com !!! Thank you for all the support!
My notifications are off. I missed two of your videos. I’ll get caught up some great looking fish you caught. Thanks for taking us along.
Thanks for the ride along, always enjoyable.
Our pleasure! Thank you for commenting!
You are on em!! Im surprised there was not more people there like it usually is. Keep at it!!!
There were a few out. It was a chilly day. - Niki

😊 Aw! Thank you Chuck, that's sweet of you. - Niki
Good job guy's, Niki almost pocketed that perch!..didn't hear any trains passing..😂
The perch was a bit squirrelly 😂
Good video Lance!! Thank you!!!
Glad you liked it! Thanks for watching.
Looks like an absolutely awesome day! That spot looks MONEY!! lol
The current sets up nice when the flow is low like it is.
Nice one guys! Y’all got some nice ones
Thank you Nate!
Niki definitely makes the videos more entertaining. Could you go into a little more detail about your technique with each of the baits?

That area I will try Saturday with my son it’s a ways away but fun to try new areas
We like to try new areas too. Hope you and your son have a great day fishing!
We appreciate it
my old friend vern used to call walleyes the poor mans lobster. how important are live minnows ? or a nightcrawler on a jig head?

Slab rap working 😊

❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
65 degrees low winds im on my way thr.
I hope you catch em!

Hey I’m the first here! Let’s go Angler X!!
Nice! Thanks for stopping by!
Great job what dam are you fishing
I felt saugeye on that 17
But I didn't go back and look again
I never gave it much thought. Assumed sauger based on the dorsal fin spots and brown blotchy pattern. Interesting!

Lance I’m catching about 70% of my fish on the Stinger Hook why don’t you use them ? I caught 17 with 3 between 15-17inches yesterday.
Great job getting them in! With catch and release, I like to use no stinger for fear that it will get caught in the throat or gills.
@@AnglerX Cross my fingers so far so good on around 50 fish this spring. Maybe it’s because I hand tied them my self ? :)
I'm finding to be very rewarding to catch fish on jigs I tied myself.
like your videos, but you're fishing the same hole 90% of the time
