nice work Chris! I loved watching this series as I engineer stuff like this for a living and letting me watch you has helped me understand your process. Thanks!
In the past, when I needed to move pieces of walk. I score the joints with saw, drill two holes in slab at an angle opposed each other. Drive two pieces rebar bout 2' apart , bend them over and attach a chain , then lift entire piece out. Saves rock cushin. Works well in sensitive areas. A little labor but very efficient up against store front or pipes.
worked out real well took out a few birds getting the sidewalk ready topsoil off to the sides, that will be a quick finish. the rock looks real nice too
Great job Chris. 1 of the few times that have seen a video from you that shows what it takes to complete a job. There is a lot more to it than taking an excavator and digging out the slurry and putting in the stone. Keep up the great work.
I worked at a top tier country club about 30 years ago and they rebuilt all the greens. That is really interesting how they build a green. But the top guy told us to build new cart paths . Easy (right) our tractor tires was about a foot on each side of the box blade. That was fun
Really enjoy watching the videos and I can watch for over an hour and not realize it..lol. But one problem I have is finding the next video in a series on a particular job. A suggestion I would have would be to name the videos so after watching the first one on a particular job, it would be easy find the next one in sequence. For example, for the first video may be named "Johnson pond build" then "Johnson pond build - 2" or something like along those lines. Just a suggestion. Thanks.

Will look as though you have never been there in 6 months and it's handy you know a bloke with topsoil bro. Looked like John was having fun in the mini too. Stay safe
A question: In Sweden where I live we nearly never use concrete on pathways or pavements. Is it cost or summer heat you use it instead of asphalt or tarmac? We usually use asphalt, paving stone or prefab reinforced (10 tons wheel pressure) concrete paver, all laid with small machines. We also use ½-1" steel sheets with chain lift holes to protect surfaces and they are surely reusable! :D
Not everywhere in the US uses concrete. Some places have paths made out of local stone (thoughtfully left covered in sharp bumps in case someone falls over on it), or proper tarmaced ones.
@@Skorpychan Thank you for your answer! Can be a difficulty to do the right choice between tactile stone for blind persons or skateboarders at a pedestrian crossing! :D
@@uppsalahazzemarkstedt2759 In britain, they just stick slabs with raised bumps in them into the pavements around pedestrian crossings. I don't think america has standards for those.
Good work chris, shit like that happens, this series about this job was awesome, I don't know anyone else that does a good job doin series on jobsites like you do, thanks for sharing bud. P. S can't wait to see the new 160 in action 😉💯💪👍👌
Hey Chris, even though putting down the ply and fabric with the crusher dust may be seen as a waste of time and money, because it didn’t stop the damage to the concrete path, if you did it do that the truck and machinery traffic would have wrecked the ground surface completely and you would have been a lot worse off, especially with wet weather. Access was difficult, you did good.
I wonder if it would have been possible to use the broken concrete from the walkway on the dissipator pad, (which is awesome work) instead of hauling it away...
Professionalism at its highest. The 250 is awesome, but you use a toothpick to clean your teeth. I like the Yanmar. It's as efficient, per size, as the others when you operate it.
That Yanmar was a great investment. And so much for using the plywood for building a new shed. Are they trying to make you pay for the sidewalk, I thought you said something about it being replaced but I didn’t get who was paying
I love your work, but if I was ever caught making piles of sidewalk and clean fill with no trucks I'd be killed. Only move it once for sure. Get a smooth tilt on that Volvo!!
I guess by the lack of commentary bet you were a bit pissed!... sadly it's always easy to be wise after the event. As usual great job can't wait to see what it looks like done.
Charlies screener would have been ideal on this! Everything including the sidewalk chunks could have been fed though and you would be left with 2 grade of stone and a pile of concrete, Ply and fabric. Have you used the new machine yet?
These are called “Extras” He is smart enough to write that into his contract. He knew he had to drive over that concrete. That’s the “What if clause”. 😜. 👍
What is the answer to the question , by trying to protect the pavement with the wood and stone if it was to be renewed you wouldn’t bother doing all that ?
I want to rent a mini to fill in a pond in my backyard that I never had a chance to finish! I got too old to deal with it now as much as I’d love to have it but now I realize that I just need to back fill it! It’s about 300 +gallon pond and was my dream, just never got the money to finish it! So I guess it would be nice to rent a mini to play with and fill it in! I really like watching you work your mini, I tell everyone that you’re the Excavator Surgeon! You’re the best I’ve ever seen!
it's not bad for winging it....but get lasar or a STRING..to get the side walk more STRAIGTH...or gig it a little WIDER..So the frammers has room to work not have to gig as much to make finer adjustments. There is little chance of getting any extra payment for re-instating the sidewalk the The Client draws up the contract not the contractor and they will have made that re-instatement a part of the contract on the initial tender documents. I suspect letsdig won this job on the hope that protecting the sidewalk as adverse to replacing it would save money, so put in a lower bid. May have done this job at a loss or at best broke even.
Looks like one of those jobs where a little more labor, maybe an additional operator and some different attachments would make it go a lot faster. Guess I'm saying something you already know
I figured you could pass one of those sweepers across the sidewalk and then just reseed along the sides with some topsoil! Was the concrete sidewalk damaged?
Chris I am assuming that you replacing the sidewalk was not your original plan ? How do you figure it into a job if it wasn’t figured into the first time ?
Man could I use your services. I live on a hill in Tennessee and I need a new driveway. I haven't been able to find anybody qualified to do the work or who will work with a slope of the pre-existing driveway.
An u did u take all the dirt of the sidewalk than go back an take it out y didn't u do it in one shot just wondering lov ur videos ur the best operator ive seen
it did spread the load saving the sides from becoming mush so that is a plus, imagine having to add even more top-soil to the job to fill in all the deep tracks that could have happened. also I think it was figured into the budget if the sidewalk needed to be replaced, just less profit on the job. but yes maximizing profit would have been the best case scenario.

Nice job Chris .

I think broken concrete leaches lime into the water, which would not be good for any fish downstream of it.

Removing the sidewalk is the way to go and with all those big exc, and big trucks it could be wors .
Weight of the Trucks and Equipment were too much for that thin concrete sidewalk. Nice Job! 👍

fabric in a screener is a disaster, one of my dump sites charges double when fabric is in the load, they have to pick it out by hand.

It's concrete slabs, not reinforced concrete. You only use rebar if you need it to deal with tension, which concrete is inherently bad at.
