    Cool idea for sure! It's the kind of "unrealistic" lighting that often gives a green-screen vibe due to not representing the effects of natural light. In which case green screen probably is a better idea after all.
    I wonder if some HDR (the photography "micro-contrast" HDR effect), or some sort of unsharp mask was used? I see some sort of halo around the actor when he moves across the sky - something which is a dead giveway to me of that effect, and that's on still photography.

    • @EpicLightMedia
      @EpicLightMedia  Год назад +5

      No “HDR effects” but yes sharpening was used and we noticed the halo when the actor is walking, after the video was published. That happened on the last layer of effects we added to give this the extra punch you can see in edited photos. If the video hadn’t been published I would redo that last bit of grade to get rid of the halo.

    You can try to use a net diffuser as a background light reducer, it might be invisible with a high aperture

    Reminds me of Michael Bays work on Transformers - super bright lights and reflectors. Legendary lighting work. Hey how about a video on action movie blockbuster lighting, horror or romcom. I would so love to know how to light a Hallmark movie - always so cheery

    It’s crazy how much watts is needed for video and on the flip side it’s incredible how much light output we get from flashes like 500W.
    Could you do a similar set up but at an angle with sun out of the frame an diffusing the sun and diffusing the key light as well for a less demanding watts set up? How big would a diffuser need to be to cover the bike and talent and how much less of light could we get away with in a less intense scenario like that?

  • @janoti6073

    I might have misunderstood something but why not use bounces, sun reflectors and mirrors?
    Setting up this many lights seems a bit overcomplicated 😅

    • @daniel.lopresti
      @daniel.lopresti Год назад +1

      Those lights, so close-up, are adding much more level than simply reflecting sunlight would (unless you have some sort of parabolic reflector to concentrate the sun's rays - and probably incinerate the actor!).

    You can easily recreate the punchy look on film with around $15k in lighting gear 😅. I meant this as satire, but when you compare that to what Hollywood uses, that’s literally one third the cost of a single Arri HMI. Crazy.

    I took your advice of not subscribing to your channel and instead, I subscribed to my own channel. I watched a couple of my videos, and then promptly unsubscribed. For those of us who aren't able to snag a 1200D and a couple of 600-watt LED lights, maybe taking a page out of the late, great Dean Collins repertoire would be good and use mirrors / silver reflectors. (And yes, I name drop Dean Collins to make myself look smarter than I really am.)

    So my initial guess was that you just flipped it/faked the sun. Can't you just hang a big bright light pointed at the camera to act as your 'sun' and then use a scrim on the actual sun behind the camera?

      I think in Hollywood, they would film on a longer lens, and put a giant "scrim" (black fabric which simply drops the level - similar to ND) in the background.
