Its very heroic not just resisting the ring and the Witch-King, but also enduring the absence of anyone telling him hes doing the right thing. He could have just convinced himself its a waste of time and that Saurons too powerful. At least Celebrimbor was there to remind him of revenge. The fact he convinced himself he could hold Mordor is very ambitious

At this time, Sauron and Celebrimbor still locked in constant battle for dominance. Isildur have already been set free to the afterlife by Talion. The only other person Talion have contact with now would be the Witch King. They talked when Talion arrive to claim the fortress, the Witch King trying to convince Talion to join their rank. At the end when Talion finally fell, he was the one who stepped up and tell him it is over. So these whispers are just the middle part of their entire conversation.
Its amazing, from our perspective the shadow wars happens quick, going from region to region, taking forts quickly, but from Talion's perspective, this is an act that took decades of life to do.

You actually can, but the skin changes back to normal Talion on certain missions. If you complete the main game, along with Blade Of Galadriel and Desolation of Mordor, you'll unlock, Dark(Nazgûl) Talion, Hunter Eltariel, Baranor, Baranor's brother (if you get a gold rating during Desolation of Mordor), and Dark Eltariel as skins for when you start a new game.
