  • In the early 1970s, local news stations like Sacramento's KCRA-TV Channel 3 started making the slow transition from using 16mm motion picture film to "capture the story" to videotape. Although open reel videotape had been in use for years, it took some time to create a truly portable broadcast video camera. We may laugh now when the words "portable" and "lightweight" are used to describe these cameras, but Live Camera 3 completely changed how news was covered at the time. This film consists of b-roll and unused takes with sections of audio missing. With tongue planted firmly in cheek, this recreation tells the story of Live Camera 3 and the conversion from news film to video tape.
