  • We have finally upgraded our sandblasting setup to a dustless blaster system! In this video we are setting up and testing out our new RapidBlast SD140 Dustless Blaster. This system is designed and built in Australia and combined with a Japanese built Airman PDS185 compressor this thing is absolutely awesome. We show how to get it set up and test it out by blasting a D10 bulldozer equalizer bar before performing a Dye penetrant crack test on the bar. We are extremely happy with this new setup, excited for the range of services we will be able to offer our customers and can’t wait to use it on our Franna crane project!

    Great setup Curtis. I once owned an auto body shop in Northern California and we had the contract for the Sheriffs department who had several boats. I was sand blasting a trailer for them one day and goofed up and blasted my wrist for just a fraction of a second.. OOOO AHH that hurt as it removed the skin from my wrist!. It stung like a burn and I learned to never blast without taped Gauntlet gloves on It eventually healed but no hair ever grew there again! It only takes once to learn my lesson!

  • @classydays43
    @classydays43 7 месяцев назад

    Couple things to note, Kurtis. I used to work for a company that used dry media but the sand blasting component of the company was largely improperly managed. I believe you are astute enough to know about sand blasters but from experience, they can be finicky.
    Blasting media can be messy and quite loud. Make sure you have an appropriate method for disposal and wear all manner of protective gear. We went through a tonne of media per week as we sand blasted everything prior to powder coating as one should. Ideally, you don't want to run used media back through the system as it can quite easily damage seals, valves and hose outlets or block the deadman valve. Depending on the system, OEM parts can be troubling to get a hold of so make sure your supplier is able to organise those if need be. Oftentimes, the blasting media will leave a bumpy surface depending on the grit, so if you want a good smooth coat of paint or powder coat, you may need to sand the surface as an additional preparation step unless you run a finer media. Also to note that the surface will rust very quickly as you are also removing any protective layer. Iron does this especially and will develop rust within minutes under the right conditions.
    Also make sure that the used media will remain isolated to where you send it as it can very easily get /everywhere/.
    Good luck on the new equipment, Kurtis!

    That's a great addition to the business. You need an employee to teach and take some load off yourself. Assuredly, that will be a challenge. In my area, many, many years ago we had a guy combine a steam cleaner with a sandblaster. He made a business both in blasting and production. The heated water and sand did an amazing job on heavy grease and oil covered engines and parts. The downside was the more rapid wear on the blasting machine parts. Nozzles, fittings, anything that came into contact with the hot water or steam. I suspect that today's material tech would solve some of those problems. The guy died years ago, the business died with him. The concept of using just steam cleaning or the steam (or hot water) with blast media was a great concept.

The anti-rotation brackets on the discharge ball valves of the air compressor, those are the details that your extra money is paying for. That designer/builder, was thinking when they added those. They only added a few bucks to the overall build, but as far as usability, mod's like those are huge to the end user.

    Pretty amazing how quickly the flash rusting appears on your metal surfaces.
    Definitely need the anti rust additive to hold the blasted surface.

    Very nice piece of kit. I watch a lot of Japanese manufacturing programs and they are very good at what they do. Crack detecting using dye penetrative, I always found it messy, but it is a relatively quick process off-site. We developed an ultra sonic system to check for cracks, so much quicker and cleaner. The flash rust problem is we fixed using mist spray oil, after shot blasting. The shot blasting equipment really does open new markets for CEE, really pleased for you.
    Have yourselves a Merry Christmas 🎄🌟🎄and a happy new year 🎉🎉, thanks for entertaining us. Take care, be safe 👍

    Just a suggestion. I would mount the compressor and sandblasted in an enclosed trailer. That way, moving the units is super simple, plus you won't risk damaging them by moving them around with a forklift. And you can store the blasting media in the trailer, making it convenient whether at the shop or at a customer's site. Over the course of a year or two, you'll pay for the trailer with the time saved on settings up the units.
    Merry Christmas!

    Looks like a great machine for you. And pretty fun to use. If you're going to be carting it around a lot maybe a dedicated trailer for it would be easier than loading it on the Ute every time. Could even put a water tank on it just for more flexibility.

    Be quicker and probably more effective to use a magnaflux magnetic particle inspection, especially with the humidity you mentioned. For even more sensitivity, you can get particles that glow under a blacklight in a dark room.

    • @Murgoh
      @Murgoh 7 месяцев назад +2

      Yes, I work on truck mounted loading cranes and according to the local regulations (Finland) those have to be stripped down and thoroughly inspected every 10 years. At the same time we usually do a full overhaul, replacing any wear parts, as the crane is already stripped so it's little extra work and cost at that point. One part of the inspection is magnafluxing the high stress areas. We have a guy come over to do it, you have to be certified to do the actual inspection though we do the disassembly, overhaul and reassembly, and he uses fluorescent dye in a spray can. Shows cracks really clearly.
