Stockman Original is your guide through the lost arts and the forgotten crafts. Brian Stockman is a master carver with more than 50 years of experience carving all mediums from wood, to stone, horn, bone, ivory, and ice. He has a particular speciality as a scrimshander (one who does scrimshaw), carrying on the ancient art popularized by New England whalers. Brian has spent a lifetime gathering knowledge of lost arts and forgotten crafts, all of which he shares with you. - Хобби
Here's the dragon's head all finished: ruclips.net/video/mk4dIg-r_SA/видео.html
THat's Rosco barking that you may hear in the background. He's a good boy. That particular day he was very interested in the chipmunks in the wood pile.
Thanks for watching! Check out this octopus handle I carved, also from Whale's Tooth: ruclips.net/video/hWOi_tgLf5s/видео.html
That's awesome Brian! Can't wait to see the final product!
Thank you so much!
Just these days I was thinking that you haven't uploaded a new video in a long time! I miss you a lot, I hope you can upload sooner, I look forward to the result of that piece, I send you a big hug, be well😊
Thank you Clorsa for all your positive energy. I’ve been pretty busy this summer catching up on some things but I’m getting back into the shop more now.
Thank you for sharing your work/art. I love seeing it.
Thank you Healer, we sure appreciate your support.
Amazing craftsmanship !
Thank you 2gpowell!
Looking great so far Brian, glad your keeping busy friend :)
Thanks Janson, it’s good to be doing some carving again. Busy summer.
That's going to be and already is one beautiful knife handle 👌
Thanks Dave, I’m hoping to put some serious detail into this one.
@@StockmanOriginal I can only imagine what serious detail you will do when all your work is so amazingly detailed anyway 🤯
Thanks for another great video
Thank you Joshua!
Great work
Thank you Ashley!
Going to be really cool Brian! The phallic shape makes me think of it being used in a fertility ceremony. I watched a lot of fantasy movies as a kid back in the 80's it also reminds me of a high quality movie prop, like something out of the first Conan the Barbarian movie.
Thank you James, it certainly is going to be a fun carve.l like those movies too, if you haven’t guessed l’m a bit of a Tolken freak.
Happy to see you again, it was a long time you posted a video! ☺️ Hopr ale of you are well! 🙂
Thank you, it’s been a busy summer but I’m looking forward to getting back into the shop more as we catch up on the chores. I’m finishing up our chimney now.
Where do you recommend people pick up this material for carving and scrim? Any particular recommendations for a beginner? I'm a goldsmith by trade but have always wanted to carve some bone
Hello Frostyscoop, we’re so happy to have you with us. I find some material such as ivory in antique shops on very lucky days, but bone, antler and horn can usually be found in pet shops ( as chew toys). That’s the handiest place, there are other places but you have to dig a little deeper for them.
