Nailed it! I saw them first on the Express tour at a dive bar in Austin. Then saw them last Friday again in Austin, 37 years later, and it was absolutely epic. Incredible. I walked away from the show with one of Kevin's drumsticks, too. Express is one of my top 5 albums of all time. It's perfect from start to finish. The whole night was pure magic. Nice review...good to know about the boxset.

Right on, Greg! If you're unable to track down the boxset, Beggars Banquet have been reissuing each album (except for Lift) in batches. I think they're all out and available at this point. Great to hear the band sounded epic!

Thanks for your video! Express and Seventh dream are my two all time favorite albums along with the Cure's Disintegration and Depeche Mode's Music for the Masses. Just such great music. I was so sad that the band kind of flamed out after Earth, Sun, Moon, as they were so wonderful in their prime.

Really nice box set Bret. I really enjoyed Earth, Sun, Moon. I thought that it was a very strong album. One of my faves from 1987. I remember talking to you about this band a few times in past videos. I am happy that they got that box set out to the bigger fans like yourself who would really appreciate it. Thanks for sharing it B~

Nice video, Bret! The box set was sold out before I got a chance to snag it, but I guess getting them separately will be great, too. The colors look fantastic, especially Sweet FA. That smoky color really suits it well!
I have to agree with you on your number one. Such a great album. My only complaint is that Holiday On The Moon isn’t on there. I am so used to hearing the album on cd, and that track is one of my absolute favorites. The extended repeating outro is mesmerizing!
Looking forward to more of your rankings, man!

Hello again, Jason! Yeah, it's great they're getting individual releases. Would've been nice if Lift was included, but oh well. My friend Jesse found a copy of it on vinyl in a shop immediately after he watched my video here. What a coincidence! I didn't own Express on CD until much much later, so my exposure to that album was on my original record, which of course didn't include "Holiday." I should have a new ranking video coming next week, which I think you'll be interested!

Hey Bret - I just saw Love and Rockets at the Theater at Ace Hotel in LA (formerly known as the United Artists Theater which is one of the 1930's era theater district theaters). Awesome venue for rock 'n' roll shows. Last show of their US 2023 tour. Killer show. Opener was Automatic which featured one of Daniels (maybe the only one but I am not sure) daughters.

Nice to see the boxset. I have heard that the original tapes for Sweet FA were lost in the fire and they had to re record everything. There was a fire, but I wonder if the complete loss of the recordings were more just tall tails. Cheers.

From what I've read, it seems the fire occurred at some point during the recording sessions. So unless someone managed to grab the tapes (or hard drives) on the way out, I'd reckon everything would've been lost up to that point. Just speculating. Thanks for watching!

It is interesting. LnR was one of the first bands I liked that wasn't part of my older brother's catalog. Over time, the LnR album I listen to most has shifted. Express has probably occupied the top spot for the longest. It was my first LnR album as well. I have shifted back and forth over time. I agree with your assessment of Hot Trip to Heaven. I was so disappointed when it was first released; I just didn't get it. Today, there are numerous songs on that one that I consider as my go to listens for LnR.

For me with L&R, it's all about the first two albums and then there's "everything else" (which are all good albums to varying degrees but not different enough to put them in ranking order). My first love was 7th Dream, which has my top 3 Love and Rockets tracks in Private Future/Dog End/Saudade. But as a whole it's a bit uneven. I really have to be in a weird mood for the dark epics like the title track and "Haunted." Haskins drums on Dog End are incredible. The albums guitars are lush. I find myself doing "air bass" to the killer basslines on Private Future and Saudade, one of the most beautiful songs ever written IMO. But it's Express that takes the #1 spot for me. It's just epic and perfect the whole way through. Although I'd make the bonus track "Angels and Devils" the lead track and include "Holiday on the Moon" as part of side two if I could resequence it. My top 3 off Express are An American Dream, the slow version of All in my Mind, and Yin&Yang the Flowerpot Man.

Express is in my number 1 spot also. Ying and Yang the flower pot man, Kundalini Express, It could be sunshine are my favorites. 2nd Earth, sun & Moon The light, Mirror People, No new tale to tell and Rainbird. 3rd their self titled album My favorite song on there are Bound for hell, **** (Jungle Law) and Motorcycle. I saw love and rockets on that tour it was one of the first concerts I went to. The Pixies opened up for them at that show that was my introduction to the pixies and I heard the cure opened at certain locations I think mainly the shows in california.

My ranking would be as follows, excluding Lift, because I haven't listened to that one yet, (except for "Deep Deep Down"), as it's not on Spotify. However I did find the songs on YT, so I'll give them a listen at some point. The rankings follow with my three favorite songs from the albums.
    6. Sweet F.A.: "Sweet Lover Hangover", Judgement Day", and "Fever".
    5. Hot Trip to Heaven: "Trip and Glide", "Ugly", and "This Heaven".
    4. Seventh Dream of Teenage Heaven: "Haunted when the Minutes Drag", "Seventh Dream of Teenage Heaven", and "The Dog-End of a Day Gone By".
    3. Love and Rockets: "So Alive", "No Big Deal", and "I Feel Speed".
    2. Earth Sun Moon: "The Light", "No New Tale to Tell", and "Here on Earth".
    1. Express: "Love Me", "Kundalini Express", and "Yin and Yang (The Flowerpot Man)".
I got to see them at their Atlanta show back in June, and probably was one of the best concerts I've ever been to.

Hey, great to see your take on these albums. I did a video on my L&R collection, but I don't think I will ever do a ranking one since I only collected them up through their 3rd album.
    My ranking would be:
    1. Seventh Dream (has my 2 favorite L&R songs, Haunted and Private Future)
    2. Express (All in My Mind, Yin & Yang, Love Me, American Dream and b-sides Lucifer Sam, Holiday on the Moon)
    3. Earth Sun Moon (Mirror People, No New Tale to Tell, Earth Sun Moon, Youth)
    4. Love & Rockets (Motorcycle, I Feel Speed)
    5. the rest...

Dude, it's seriously starting to freak me out a little bit.. Before I watch any album ranking videos I identify what I think the top 3 albums are. I'm almost always surprised by where those 3 albums are placed in other people's rankings. For example, it seems more times than not their "worst" album is in my top 3. And I watch the whole thing going "No... no... what?!. . .there's no right or wrong here but that's actually wrong.. etc."
When I watch your videos I'm like "Yep.. yep... exactly... " Whars been crazy is how your top 3 and my top 3 are more often than not identical. In this case they werent identical but damn close. I had 1. Earth Sum Moon, 2. Express, 3 7th Dream. The fact that our top two were flip flopped in my mind was a minor difference. But the fact that you also put 7th dream "way down" in the 3rd slot is another example where you and I totally agree on something that might go against the grain of other hard core fans of the band. I would expect 7th Dream to occupy a lot of top slots and placing it in 3rd to be blasphemous to many. But the one that really stunned me was that you, like me, picked Technique as your top new order album. I wouldn't expect Technique to necessarily be in any knowledgeable fan's top 3. I would totally expect Technique ro be a controversial and unpopular pick for their best album. When i saw your vid I was like... no way!! We agree with each other on that!!!? Wow! Lol!!
