I'm a visual learner so many good videos are a must. I learn MUCH more from watching an educational video on RUclips than reading a paper on some website or listening to it read to me on headphones. The audio-VISUAL experience is important.
Great info, thank you Nick - I evaluated the data in your video and did some checking on my own and concluded that Part Time Pilot is likely the preferred online ground school for a PPL! I do have a question: I'm only interested in obtaining a Sport Pilot Certificate; it appeared to me that of the online schools you evaluated, only Sporty's and King's have an online course for Sport. Is that correct, or does Part Time Pilot also have this course?
Appreciate that! And appreciate you taking the effort to validate the info! The reason most others do not have a sport course is because they are so similar to private. A sport ground course is 95% the same content as private. We get sport students all the time and what we do is we just give them a document that lists the differences between sport and private and then another that is sport specific practice test questions. So they just go through our private course and review those 2 documents and they are good to know. They all have done very well on the test. When you sign up just shoot us an email at team@parttimepilot.com and we will send you those documents
I’m in the market of buying a ground school. Does your ground school download all the content to an app/computer? I’ll have little to no internet connectivity for 6-9 months when I’m deployed. It makes it nearly impossible to watch a video
We don’t have the options to download our videos or the lessons but we do have the option to download enough content to keep you busy for 9 months AND to learn everything you need to know. In fact, we had someone deployed on a submarine who did this with our content and by the time they came up they went and took their exam (and passed!) We have audio lessons you can download and listen to right on your favorite podcast app. We have pdf books to download like our ultimate test prep book, cross country planning ebook and flash cards pdf. And our app is able to be used offline as well. At the current moment the app will not be able to download images and videos to your phone but you will still be able to access the written lessons, quizzes, practice test generator and e6b. We are working on an update and hoping in the next couple months to have it so that students have the option of downloading photos and videos locally to their app so they can access everything offline. Just email us when you want your endorsement after using our offline content so we can figure out a way to get some practice test scores from you. Also, email us at team@parttimepilot.com for our military discount
Quick question: So how do these online ground school's actually work? If I say, enrolled in a PPL online course, and finished it, do I just write the exam? And how does it work when you still have to do your actual "flight training" in person. or is it just a preperation and not an official like ceritfied ground school
Great question! To get a pilot certificate you need to do 4 things essentially. You need to receive an endorsement from a certified instructor that says “I know this person studied and knows the knowledge enough to pass the knowledge/written exam” and then you need to take that endorsement as your ticket to the written exam that you need to take and pass. Then, you essentially do the same for flight training. At the end of flight training you need an endorsement from a certified instructor that says “this person has the experience and proficiency to fly an airplane” and then you take that endorsement to your final flight checkride that you need to take and pass. Online ground schools prepare you for your written exam by teaching you the knowledge and preparing you to pass it and then the head instructor for the program sends you an endorsement. A good online ground school will also prepare you for your flight lessons and not just to pass a written test or remember multiple choice questions. That way when you get to flight lessons you aren’t lost mentally. The written exam is not exactly the best tool at doing these so a good ground school needs to go beyond. Finally, you can certainly study all this stuff yourself with all the free content on the internet or a test prep book and then find an instructor who will endorse you (they usually charge a bit for it and make you pass a test or 2). That’s totally allowed under part 61 and called self study. But, for example part time pilot, we don’t sell you the free information. We sell you the tools, the ability to ask questions, the community, the structure, the practice tests, the examples, the live lessons, etc etc to make it all that much easier for you and to learn at a higher level than you would alone. Hopefully that makes sense.
Yes! It’s actually recommended. Doing both at the same time can put a lot of stress on your time and have you behind the aircraft mentally. I always recommend students do ground and right what they are ready to take their written exam they get started on flight lessons. Those first couple lessons helps solidify concept in person and then you can take the test and have it all out of the way and the flight lessons will go much smoother
Hello! I'm from another country, I'm a filipino flight attendant in the Philippines And Im planning to study in the USA to be certified FAA comercial pilot soon. To start, I want to enrol online ground school while im here in my country. Is that possible? My mom is a citizen of the USA, after online ground school I intent to move and study there.
Yes you can do that! You just have to be here in the US to take the written exam here and then to do your flight training. And you’ll need to clear US TSA student pilot program while on a valid VISA. But you can do online ground school at any time
Where is the video for Gleim? I use Gleim for the written and it was all written which I found all I needed to pass it and it was most affordable. It was $50 with a promotion and $80 without. I had to renew it after a year to review for my checkride.

Thank you for making this video bro it helped out on looking for a ground school , part time pilot sounds like the best option!
Actually Sporty's has all the handbooks in digital form included. They keep everything updated fairly well.
The FAA handbooks? Everyone has those. They are public domain and you can download them from the FAA.
Or do you mean something else?

Sportys does offer a refund. I tried on their ground school didn’t care for it and they just refunded me today. Has to be within the first 30 days.
Good to know! Appreciate the comment. Will leave a note in the description of this video and be sure to update it for next video
