The Serial number stamped on your transfer box will give you a good indication. The further down the Alphabet the later the box. However, the only surefire way is to pull the bottom plate off and visually inspect what you have to save any guesswork.
I’m looking at getting your guys’s 230-4l80 adapter but the thing is I have a Borg Warner unit since it is an ‘89 Is your adapter compatible with the BW unit? (More specifically the input shaft adapter)
Hi Daniel, The BW box will bolt up where a LT230 bolts up, however they have the short spline length and the physical size of the case is bigger (so may not fit with the LT230 adapter or a 4L80). subsequently i dont recommend using the adapter with a BW at all. In honesty, the LT230 is a significantly better box and id personally make the switch.
Great technical video, thanks! How do we know if we have a late or early LT230 without opening it?
