"Point number I don't know, I've forgotten..." Hee hee!😂 You are such a joy to listen too. I love your sense of humor. 🤪🥰❤
Robin, that phrase is just SO ME, isn't it?! LOL. And I've been so scattered lately, I'm surprised that's the only point number that I forgot! 😂 Oh well, at least we got some laughs out of it, right?! 😘
I love this pattern because it is so versatile. It’s great if you want to make a quilt for a man. The modern aesthetic is also a masculine aesthetic 👏🏽
I bought the pattern 8 minutes into the video and decided (before finishing the video) that I could challenge my inadequate quilt math brain and use smaller pieces. Maybe 8.5"......because I love that cool little sashing! I have 2 tubs of deconstructed men's shirts to make baby quilts to donate! Thanks for a Grrrrreat pattern. And so glad to know she has made an instructional video,!!!
PS. The Zen Chic video is great and full of tips. I put on closed caption so I could understand her better....fyi
You could totally use smaller pieces and that would be gorgeous!! ❤️ Your donated baby quilts will be lovely and the receivers will be so lucky to get one! 🥰
Yes, that German accent is awesome, but thick! 😊
Second times a charm! I saw your first video on celestial stripes, looked it up, gave it a pass.
This time the stars were aligned. I had just purchased two jelly rolls. Meant to be. I bought the pattern, made the quilt and just dropped it off for long arming. It turned out beautifully. I did add a couple more rows and changed the boarders a bit.
Just a side note: When using thrift store sheets, thread count is important. 200 thread count or less is best for long arming. The higher thread counts tend to cause pulls in the fabric on the long arm. I am hoping a ballpoint needle will help.
Oh cool! Funny how that happens---sometimes it just has to hit you at the right time with the right fabric and the right purpose! I'm not surprised that yours turned out beautifully but I love that it did! 🤩🤓❤️
Terrific video! Love that you encouraged your viewers to support the pattern creators. You’re 100% correct…show you appreciation for the creative people! After all, they are our inspiration and spark OUR creativity as well! 💫
Loving both of your quilt tops today! Paul’s quilty stars is coming along beautifully! Hope you’ll show the finished baby quilt as well. Hugs! 🥰
Big hug to you, Shannon! ❤️ Thanks about Paul's quilt---slow but sure, right?! I will *definitely* show the finished baby quilt! You know I love to have you all over for show-and-tell! 🤓😂😘
Timely video. I need a baby girl quilt for Sunday morning. Thanks for sharing the things you have to say about it. Your energy and humor always brings joy. Have a good weekend.
How fortuitous, Destry! 🤓🤩 Hope you have a great weekend, and if you make this one for a baby quilt, I hope you love it and have fun with it!! ❤️
@@TheCatBirdQuilts I have made quilts with a similar pattern so it should go quickly. The nursery colors are plum, periwinkle and navy. Once I find some soft contrasting colors I will be all set. Thanks for sharing.
I’m watching this again. It’s soothing to watch your videos. It’s as if you’re visiting with a neighbor. I need that when I am forced to have a down day. I’ve been dreaming of a couple that I am close to, who have long proclaimed that they aren’t going to have children, telling me over dinner that they are expecting and over joyed. They have invited me to dinner later in the week. Maybe just a friendly get together but if my dream turns out to be true I would love to have a gender neutral baby quilt that I can whip out in a ha ha moment. Of course if they are not expecting then I haven’t lost anything because I have a granddaughter due in 2 weeks and a grandson due in November. I have a collection of men’s dress shirts in LSU purple and a softer yellow (not LSU gold). I’m excited to make this quilt again. It’s always a pleasure to watch you.
Brenda from Conquering Mount Scrapmore sent a shout out to you today. Happy Friday. So enjoy your quick wit, your soothing voice, & your easy teaching skills. I'll watch regularly now. ❤
Thank you, Barb!❤️ I'm so thankful for Brenda's shout-out---how awesome is that?! Thank you for your kind words and welcome to my channel---I look forward to hearing from you in future comments! 🤓👍🏻😊
I love love love this pattern! CatBird I’m with you on the patterns - we need to all purchase the patterns unless the designer has it listed for free. Thank you so much for sharing this. It will be one I make soon!
Sister, this one is going to give you JOY!! So easy, so fun, and looks so good! ❤️
Love the quilt community support for one another! Brenda from Mt. Scrapmore sent a shout out to you today. .Two of my favorite instructors!
Thank you, Pam! ❤️ I'm so thankful for Brenda's shout-out---how great of her! And I love that quilt community support too; it's my favorite thing about being here on YT---the overwhelming support of viewers, fellow YT creators, and pattern designers. It gives me all the joyful feels! 🥰
Thanks for another great video! I love your enthusiasm over the pattern and quilting in general! Love how hubbys quilt is coming along.. midway through this video I noticed the pattern the dark fabrics make and had a wow! moment 🎉
Jenny, when I watched the video edit, I saw it too! The final quilt will have sashing which may change that secondary pattern a bit but I love it! ❤️ Thanks so much for the kind words! 🥰
1. Your shirt would be a great addition to my shirt stash.
B. I’m almost finished with a quilt using Filigree from Zen Chic.
3. Since I have left over JR strips, I think I’ll dig into my shirt stash to have enough.
D. Thanks for sharing cool patterns with us.
😂😂
Dedra, you get me. ❤️ (1) I think my shirt would be great for almost everyone's stash, honestly. I love that shirt (thrift store, btw. lol.) (B) Ooooohhhh...that fabric is SO GOOD. Her fabrics are really just so well done and lovely. (3) I think you 100% should. (D) You're welcome and I'm so thankful for you watching, comment, and faithful support. For real. 🥰
This is great inspiration for a baby quilt, which I was just looking for, only this baby is a girl! Will give it a try. Thanks Cathy! ❤
Oh yay!! I think you're going to really enjoy it! ❤️ I bet it will be beautiful in baby girl colors!!
I love how your points get sub points 😂 we all appreciate the details you share from your experiences with new patterns ❤
My sub-points get me sidetracked EVERY time! lol! But thank you so much! 😘
Thank you for showing this! I love Zen Chic patterns and her fabrics as well.
Oooh look at Quilty Stars behind you coming along beautifully! 👌🏻🥰 Also this pattern is really nice! Thanks for sharing ❤️
Thanks, Charity!! ❤️
The 1. Point then B. Point is what Paul in Mad About You used to say. I know we are close in age, so I suspect you have seen the show. I told my husband this morning that it was video day. I then told him if we lived close, we would be friends and trade one-liners from shows and movies back and forth and then you did that very thing! Thanks for another great video.
I HAVE seen that show and I loved it! We would 100% be friends and we would TOTALLY quote movies and shows and we would be very pleased with ourselves when we knew the movie, line, scene and actors in it. And we would laugh and say, "YESSSS!!!" about it.🤓😊 For now, we'll just do that in the comments instead of in person.😘
The first time saw this pattern a year or two ago I fell in love. I agree with everything you said including financially supporting designers who's patterns we love. If we don't pay them they can't sustain a design career and eventually we won't get any more designs from them.
Thanks, Blair! Glad to know I’m not the only one! 🤓👍🏻
I love this pattern and will download it to support the designer too! By the way, the shirt you are wearing is beautiful and would make a lovely quilt too!😊
Thanks, Mary!❤️ And I got my shirt at the thrift store, btw! 😂
You persuaded me on both counts--I bought the pattern 🙂
Well that's so wonderful!! I started to say, "I wasn't trying to persuade anyone..." Oh wait. Yes, yes I was! 😘 Hope you love it!!
Thanks for the review of an older pattern. So happy to see your video this morning. Gives me something to listen to and watch as I work. Hugs from Tampa!
Thanks, Laura!! ❤️ {{{big hug}}}
Hi, I have just recently discovered your channel, and already learned so much. I love shopping at thrift stores and always looked at fabric and linens, now I look at men’s shirts, and what men wear also😂I’m definitely hooked. Thanks for sharing all your knowledge.
Thank you, Rita! ❤️
That is a cute pattern! Though, I will say strip piecing (if you have to sew LONG straight pieces together) can be a bit of a challenge for a beginner, as it does require being able to sew fairly straight with a constant seam allowance (definitely MY biggest "hardship" when starting out.) which is another reason SHIRTS are great for this, you sew shorter seams!
I was so distracted by your hubby's quilt on the wall lol It looks so fantastic!! 🥰I agree with buying the patterns. I do tend to make up my own as I go, but a good pattern is always great to have,
Thanks, Freddie! I do agree that those long pieces can go a little awry if you don't have great technique or are learning. But then again, how better to learn than on an easy pattern like this one! 🤓😘 And YES shirts are great for this exact reason! Thanks about Paul's quilt---it's coming together slowly, but I do really enjoy each block, so it's been an enjoyable process!🤩❤️
Oooh! Love me some Zen Chic! Always clean and modern, but amenable to adding traditional prints to change the overall feel of the quilt to more traditional, if you like. I also like the fabric lines from this company. The blenders work across colorways really nicely, and the specific motifs are interesting and clever, but don’t hit you over the head with graphics. It’s a Goldilocks/just right scenario for me.
EDIT: when I googled the pattern name and went to the Zen Chic site that way, a free pattern, Ikat, popped up. Then I joined the newsletter and there was another free pattern (Christmas star table topper) linked there! I did buy the Celestial Stripes pattern, so three for the price of one today! Woo woo!
Woot woot! 3 patterns for 1!! 🤩 I love her stuff too for all the same reasons you do. Just SO. VERY. APPEALING. in almost every way. Zen Chic indeed! ❤️
I have been watcing a few of your videos and got inspired to go to my local Goodwill store on a treasure hunt. I am usually looking for things I can mount my cross stitch on but I also quilt. Last month our quilt guild did a talk about up-cycling and that got me looking at your wonderful videos. My first shirt haul was pretty good - I found 8 XL shirts, 3 were $.99 each, 2 were half price at $3.12 and 3 were $6.24 each. They were all 100% cotton and the 3 full price ones looked and felt like they had never been worn. Thanks for all you great tips on what to look for and how to get the most fabric from them. They are in the wash as I write this. Looking forward to watching more of you videos. - Debbie -
Thanks so much, Debbie! ❤️ It sounds like you have gotten the "bug"---isn't it fun! (and addictive! 😳🤓🤩) Thanks for watching and commenting and congrats on your great thrift haul!
I hear you about the colorway fabric. I chose a different fabric other than the one suggested by the YT quilter and it was a mistake. I'm still making the pillow, but next time I'll know better. Thanks for the tip!
I have been thinking and thinking about this pattern....... I just ordered it. Going to use some various shades of grey (from men's shirts) and some other material to add to it. Thank you so much for all of your good ideas!
Brenda from “conquering mount scrapmore” gave you a shout out this morning! ❤
Jacqueline, I know! Isn't that so awesome of Brenda! 🤩🥰 Thanks for being here, watching and commenting! I'm delighted to have you here!❤️
The first thing I thought when your video started was "I would love that shirt!"...😂 Will have to replay to actually listen to what you are saying..😊
Aww! Thanks, Maree! ❤️ You watch as many times as you need to. And ps, I got my shirt from the thrift store!! 😂😉🤓
Great video Cathy and Paul 👍😃 Know what you mean about adding the extra borders with that thin strip of colour 😃 It really added to the look of the quilt 🤩 Can’t wait to see yours finished 🤔
👏👏🇬🇧
Thanks, Glynis! ❤️
Well, I must say you had me hooked on using mens shirts from Goodwll. So I decded to venture out to Value Village which is our answer here in Canada to Goodwill. I found beautiful mens shirts , 100% cottons, all variety of sizes and colours and prints. Then I saw the prices. The cheapest was 14.00 the most expensive 18.59. Plus the 13% sales tax. We are about an hour out of the greater Toronto area. So even though the fabric store prices are also quite high here, I will shelve the urge to buy shirts for now.
I did get cotton twin sheet and some fabric remnants, but no shirts. I may try the Care and Share which is run by the Mennonite relief, and the thrift store run by the local hospital auxillary, and see what their prices are. I still love your videos. I am a newby quilter . 🇨🇦💕🇨🇦
Thanks for the heads up on the Zen Chic site. It is fantastic. They have some great patterns!
I really like this pattern..good palate cleanser!! H0pe your daughter is dooing well❤
Aww! Thank you, Giselle, and I love that designation: "palate cleanser!" Indeed!
She has done beautifully in recovery (back to her normal self, in fact); thank you for the well wishes! 😘
Greeeaaat video Cathy. And I love how your set (and wardrobe) is so well colour co-ordinated. Very Zen Chic in and of itself. You have introduced me to so many new to me designers of modern quilts…..my quilty collection is expanding and my inbox is filling up nicely with newsletters from them all. I will definitely add this pattern to my library and put it on my list of must-do quilt patterns. Thanks for sharing.
Aww! Thanks, Barbara! ❤️ I'm so glad that I can introduce you to fun new quilt patterns and designers---I'm far from modern, myself, but I do love a good-looking modern quilt!🤩
Hi, I have been trying to decide on a pattern for one of my bedrooms that only visitors use, usually my kids +partners or my grandkids. They all have modern houses and the room is modern but in an old converted barn and I could not settle on one - until now - as soon as you showed the option with the extended border I went - that's it, thats the one - it's perfect, so thank you and I am ordering the pattern. As you say, we may be able to do the maths but the designer gave us the idea. Love Pauls quilt by the way.
Linda, how wonderful that you found the pattern you have been looking for with this video! ❤️ You're welcome and thanks for commenting---it is comments like this one that encourage me to keep sharing what I am doing and what I am learning! And thank you about Paul's quilt! One of these days it will be done (and hopefully lovely!)🤓
You have the most fortunate friends!!!! Great video Cathy! I love Friday AM’s!!!! XOX
Thanks, Anne! ❤️
One reason I like watching your videos do you game ideas and you’re very useful this particular pattern would be perfect for a quilt that I have in mind-thank you ✂️🧵🪡🦋
Thank you, Elizabeth!❤️ And you're welcome! 😘
Thanks for the Friday laughs!!! I always enjoy your videos and the editing your hubby does. This pattern is pretty darn awesome and will work up well with lots of options. Maybe some of the blocks go perpendicular to each other, maybe fun to play with!! And yes in the case of quilt patterns, I am cheap cheap cheap, however I will buy a pattern especially if I am going to follow that pattern fairly closely. If I am going to play with it, then I will often tweak it enough to truly make it mine and might not purchase it. But often times when I do that, I glance at the pattern and it inspires more than anything so won’t feel the need to buy that pattern. I don’t rewatch a video so I can copy that pattern. If I am going to do that, I always buy the pattern. Thanks again for a great video!!!
Thanks, Christine! ❤️ And yes, I have done similarly: if I use a pattern as a springboard for my own spin, or if I feel like it is so obvious that it barely even requires a pattern, I might not purchase it. But I'm trying to really put my $$ behind the folks who make the really great patterns so that they can feel the love! 😘
Since this quilt is for a baby boy it would be really sweet to use some of his daddy's dress shirts. I that would be very special.
Genius!! I hadn't even thought of that, but that is a fantastic idea! 🤓 Thanks for sharing! ❤️
Looks like something I need to try. Love this simple pattern for a beginner like me.😄
Zena, you will love this one, and yes it is perfect for beginners!❤️
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 Well you have knocked or out of the park again. Love that quilt pattern. It’s a great shirt quilt pattern but also can read very masculine which is hard to find. 🫶🏻
Thank you, Veronica! ❤️ I agree, sometimes it is hard to find a quilt pattern that would appeal to the masculine crowd---I think this one fits the bill!!
Brih- gheeee-t soft g like Gigi and no e pronounced on the end. Great quilt😁 perfect timing because I need a new baby quilt.
Just found you through Conquering Mount Scrapmore. A little off this topic but love the men's shirt ideas. I was wondering though if they are just cotton shirts you are finding or do you use a mix like poly cottons?
If you watch any of her Thrift With Me type videos next, you will learn it all! 🤩
Rachel, Cassandra is right---I talk about cotton, cotton-poly, linen (well, all of it) all the time in the Thrift Haul videos! 🤓😂 The short version is, I basically use only 100% cotton (and linen, and cotton-linen blends.) I have used cotton poly but it poses challenges.
If you want to know why/what challenges, watch this video: ruclips.net/video/mbJHup41gnY/видео.html and you'll get the whole low-down on it!
@@TheCatBirdQuiltsthank you I will definitely be watching all those videos. I bought a couple of shirts yesterday to try out😊
Hi! Brenda from Mount Scrapmore had your channel in her shoutout. Greetings from the Fraser Valley of BC.
Hi!! She did---and I'm so grateful you came by to watch! ❤️ Best wishes right back to you from Birmingham, Alabama! 😊
"And those of you that have been with me a while are like..."
Me: I LOVE YOUR SHIRT!
"...'Not ANOTHER new project!'"
Oh. Oh, no. I was not saying that at all. The more you start, the more I get to watch! 😂This looks like a fantastic quilt pattern to both start on for beginners and have in your toolkit for anyone.
LOL!! Clearly I had a different understanding of what "those of you who have been with me a while" are *actually* thinking! 😂
And yeah, for-real for-real it's a great pattern for just almost everyone. ❤️
♥️ Really enjoyed watching, bought a few shirts really nice different blues, husband liked 2 so only one left argh, will try this pattern thanks for sharing xx
Thanks, Karon! ❤️ It's a common thread around the comments on my videos---wives thrilled with gorgeous shirt fabrics that immediately get confiscated by husbands admiring the *actual* shirts! LOL! 😂
Oh! Thank goodness it’s Friday 🎉🎉
Absolutely love your star quilt ❤ is it nearly done?
Nearly done? Oh my goodness, Glynis. No ma'am. 😱 But getting there one block at a time! 🥰
Great video Cathy. Can't wait to see the finished product. Will there be a quilt story video for this quilt? By the way....LOVE YOUR BLOUSE! So unique and totally suits you! 😁👍
Thanks, Nettie! OF COURSE there will be a quilt story for it---isn't there always?! 😂😘 Thank you about my shirt---you'll never guess where I got it! That's right, the thrift store!! 😂
Thank goodness it's Fri-yay! 🎉
Love the new quilt pattern, but I couldn't find the link for it. 😢
Don't worry about having so many WIPs. I have several that I need to finish before my travels in November that my head is spinning. 😱🤯
Next year is the men's shirts quilts year for me.
Yes, TGIF! (It’s been a long week!) The link has been added-sorry we missed it on the first go-around! (Did I mention it’s been a long week?😱😂)
Glad to know I’m not the only one with a bunch of WIPs!! It sneaks up on us, doesn’t it?
@TheCatBirdQuilts omgoodness has it ever been a long week.
I go to Germany every November to visit my mama and stay for 2 months. There are so many projects I need to prep to take with me and need to finish for presents for friends and family. It literally takes all year to accomplish.
Thanks for adding the link. 😍😊🥰
I love your shirt! I wonder how one would fussy cut your shirt....lol
Thank you! And yes, I've had similar thoughts! 😂
Wow love the star quilt its really beautiful ❤ is it done yet lol🙆 I can't believe you spent money on at quilt pattern, I will not pay over 10.00$ Gor a pattern . love your tutorial s have a great weekend family!!
Thanks, Neva! And no, my goodness, I'm gonna be working on it for-ev-er!!!😂 I do buy patterns just to support the designers, but I totally get not spending that kind of $$ for them! Hope you have a great weekend too and I'll pass along the well wishes to my fam!❤️
Thank you for your video. How would you compare the Rail Fence quilting pattern to this one? I was wondering if it also might be good for using a men's shirt? Thank you!
I haven't made a Rail Fence quilt (yet) so I can't comment specifically on that! But if you suspect it would be good for men's shirts, give it a try and report back!! 😘
Out here in the West, we call it cleansing your palate if you've just made a really tough quilt.
Oh I love that!! Will SO be using that phrase from here forward! 😘
Lovely video! One question,Does your husband have any shirts and does he have to hide them from you, lol? Have a good one.
I DO have dress shirts and she is very respectful of them.
Thanks, Kim! I stay totally out of my husband's closet...once he's ready to give them to the Goodwill, tho, they are fair game! 😘
Lol,really nice quilt!
Kaffe AND Zen Chic????? ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Right?!? I'm on 🔥 up in here! 😂😘 (well, actually they're lit--I'm just fanning the flames!) ❤️
is that King's crown behind you?
Quilty Stars by Emily Dennis of Quilty Love. I haven't put the sashing in yet (which will change the look of it) but I don't think this pattern falls under the "King's crown" type block.
Is it Friday yet??? ❤❤
You sweet one. ❤️ Got the linen btw---Christmas in July is right!! Thank you thank you!! 😊🥰
There are tons of images...not really. Images don't weigh anything.😂😂
LOL! Right?!
