I would much rather have Baker Mayfield than Sam.
Anyone with eyes would, but i guess we will see when they both suit up. I would honestly be ok with the Panthers cutting or trading Baker so he can get to a better situation.
Darnold has been trash every year for two franchises, Mayfield is gonna start.

Out of 32 teams, 32 starters, Darnold ranked 42nd. 2nd string QBs had better numbers than Darnold. Mayfield ranked 24th with an injury. Darnold ranked 32nd the year before. He's not Carolina's guy. Mayfield may not be either but he's the better option. The biggest issue is fixing that offensive line or they are all in trouble.
Why do people keep discrediting his rookie season he literally broke the rookie td record before Herbert did it two years later
And then he said how baker had a good but not great 2020. That comment was a clown comment. The way he played in the second half (and going into the playoffs) in 2020 was probably top 5 qb play. We are too blessed with great QBs. (Note: not saying baker was a top 5 qb, just his play was, which requires sample size to “balance” out)

Rookie season was "fine". Baker set the rookie td record only started 13 games.
It's still amazing how these guys defend Sam Darnold. They always talk that he's never had much help. Cleveland was 1-31 before Baker got there, the truth is Darnold is a backup. These guys don't want to admit they were wrong about Darnold.
But Colin fell madly in love with Darnold at a USC practice six years ago! That’s all that matters to QB analysis.

If Sam was keeping his job they never would have traded for Baker. I expect Sam to be traded at some point or released prior to training camp. Regardless of what he's owed. Rhule is betting his job on Mayfield for better or worse.

I hope so, the only thing working in Bakers favor is now the NFC is not what it used to be, the AFC is so stacked I don't see the Browns getting 10+ wins even with Watson. Baker(if he starts) can get 3-4 easy wins in that conference, outside of the big 3(maybe 4 with Dak) they can win games they are supposed to win.

Baker Mayfield shined as a underdog in college. This is probably the best scenario especially against some surfer dude that couldn't handle the spotlight in the NYC. Sam Darnold was not all world QB in college either.

Browns fan, I've seen baker live. Dude has an absolute rocket for an arm. His weakness both on and off the field is his temperament. He's too volatile and emotional. He needs to steady himself before he can reach his potential.
Baker with his loaded roster around him led the nfl in interceptions thrown since 2018, and has rarely shown the ability to come through in the clutch. Weather it's a pick thrown against the Ravens as a rookie, or the inability to get a first down to win a playoff game in Kansas city

Sam is more elusive in the pocket and going outside the pocket. If Im Carolina im starting Darnold until he shows you he isnt the guy. Darnold has not had the offensive personnel that Baker has had and deserves to have the starting job with a healthy CMC, DJ Moore, and an improved o-line.
When watching them play you can see who’s more of the athlete bro combine is for workout warriors not necessarily football players

Their defense was on an historic pace the first half of the season that year. Turned the Ball over like crazy aswell. Which means short fields. Thats how they got many of their TDs.

Darnold w this same cast last year was dog sht. In baker’s first year the browns were terrible, his second year they were coached by Freddie kitchens, third year they finally fixed the o line, bake played well made the playoffs, fourth year blew his shoulder out. And darnold doesn’t have a substantial jump on the Playbook. The panthers just hired a new OC, everyone will be learning a new playbook

I really like Brooks take on Tua but Baker is 100% better than horrible Sam Darnold!! Tua is a franchise guy!! He’s like Drew Brees he’s not super super dynamic but he’s very accurate and has elite pocket awareness!! Any other QB would have got sacked a lot more behind that horrendous Oline!!

When the Jets were 0-10 or 0-11 he was asked two questions that really highlighted who he was. 1 "Are you worried about going winless?" He said no a win will fall to us eventually - how about you put more effort in and don't rely on a team stumbling. 2 "How do you feel about the Trevor Lawrence talk?" He said I can't control any of that - maybe play better and people won't want you replaced.
I wanted him to be cut on the spot because both answers showed that he has no fight in him and no drive to be better. He is never going to be a guy that takes charge and leads the team, he's always going to just go with the flow even if it's flowing off a cliff.

I keep hearing about how good the Oline was in Cleveland but when I watched Cleveland games baker was under alot of pressure. Now that might be because I didn't get to watch all the games. But the games that I did watch the Oline didn't look great.
Browns fan here, Jedrick Wills Jr. (LT) was injured for a good portion of the year, and besides that, Baker had a serious issue with holding onto the ball and trying to extend the play, and really struggled with working outside of a bootleg pocket, which was typically when he did the most damage. Teams game planned for that, took away the boot, and forced him to stay in the pocket and try to go through his reads, which was his big weakness. He'd go to read #1, and bail if it wasn't there, try to break the pocket and ad lib a throw.
Besides that, our running game was so good that teams just stacked the box and took their chances with Baker not reading the defense correctly (or at all) and used 8 in the box to just keep Nick Chubb from chunking them for 4-6 yards per run. We almost faced zero big on big opportunities in passing situations last year, and instead had to deal with 6, 7, even 8 man blitzes, typically overrunning a side of the line to force a quick throw/mistake that turned into an interception or a sack because Baker would try to scramble.
TL:DR a lot of Baker's sacks/pressures were due to him trying to ad lib against constant blitzes

@@michaelpesina3174 I believe Nick Chubb missed three, Kareem Hunt was out for over half the year which was the only major RB injury, so we were down to our third-stringer D'Ernest Johnson, but he averaged 5.3 yards per carry. You could make the argument that not having Hunt hurt Baker's ability to check down and chunk 7-10 yards, but it doesn't really change the stacked box issue. All in all, we had a decently healthy year from Nick and D'Ernest proved he can play like a RB1. I understand where you're coming from, though. Especially with Kareem's talent
Browns offensive line is great at run blocking. They’re very average to below average at pass protection. Against the great defenses like Pittsburgh or Baltimore, the line gets bullied.
They gave up an average of 30 sacks for the 4 years Baker was there..he was constantly under pressure..their run blocking #1 in the league..sometimes
