Why is Tachtig Written With a T?

Ever wondered why Tachtig is Written With a T? I mean we have, vijftig, zestig, zeventig, tachtig and negentig. We take the first number and add -tig. Then why is there a "T" before Tachtig?

In het duits moet man ook voorzichtig zijn met de nummer 30. Alle andere tientallen in het duits eindigen met “zig”, maar dertig eindigt met “ßig”. De oorzaak van dit verschil ligt ook diep geleden in de geschiedenis.

Dit was een AHA ervaring voor mij. Dank je wel dat je de moeite heb gedaan en dit heb uitgezocht. Ik was me niet erg bewust van het verschil qua de uitspraak van zestig&zeventig - dus dit is eerder met een S dan met een Z. Ik heb net geaboneerd.

So I’m taking an eight week class in beginning Nederlands from university of Groningen. I was corrected in my very first speaking assignment when I said the end of a tens number with the -ig sounding the way you pronounce it. I was told that the correct way to pronounce it is more like -ug. So I’m curious about the difference here in pronunciation; when it comes to teaching a language I would assume there are certain standardized mainstream pronunciations. Thanks.

There are also dialects, like in English one pronunciation in one country could not be right-seen in another one, this can even happen between close regions

Can “gewoon” be used as “only”? When is it possible to use it like that instead of “maar”, “pas” and “net”?
