I just started learning Dutch using Duolingo and it keeps trying to teach me, “Ik ben een appel” or “je bent een appel” …when am I ever going to use these phrases except if I want to sound like a person with mental issues? 😐 bedankt voor deze video though

That’s Duolingo’s thing. Arguably they are doing this for the student not memorizing the sentence as a whole but to teach the pattern. Also there’s this thing of people talking about them. I remember one sentence in the Russian course saying: “my horse is not a painter, but an architect”.

@@yorgunsamuraythis makes sense tbh, it wouldn’t be that useful to just memorise certain sentences if u are trying to learn an entire language. the sentences can be unusual but it makes learning more amusing & personally it helps me to learn the patterns of how sentences are structured alongside random vocabulary words that will be useful in other contexts.

Great video. BTW: there is a typo on blog article:
Rule #7 - Names of languages always have the Article de.
    Example: het Netherlands (the Dutch)

    • @once.upon.atime.in.belgie

het can mean "an article" and het can mean "it"
      for ex. het boek.
and Het is mijn auto- It's my car.
So the word het has 2 meanings
