About the Great Coast Road - Westport from Punakaiki:
Great ocean views, few cars, and amazing scenery is the key words of New Zealand’s Great Coast Road. This ride is definitely a bucket list ride and touring cyclists come from all over the world to ride it. It runs from Greymouth to Westport on the wild and untamed West Coast of New Zealand’s South Island. We have split the route up in two stages. This route is the second stage which runs from Punakaiki to Westport. This is a varied ride shifting between flats segments, climbs, coastal scenery, inland scenery, and mountains. A few climbs on this route can be difficult (double digits gradients), but they are not very long. Altogether you climb almost 786 meters / 2 579 feet. The ride starts on a day with perfect weather conditions at the Pororari River. From here you ride further into the wilderness of New Zealand. After 11 kilometers on the road, you get to a beautiful segment of coastline which you can ride along for approximately 6 kilometers. Then you leave the coast and ride inland. Here you can enjoy some nice ascents and descents with views of the oceans and mountains. The last part of this route is flat and easy to ride. As you get to Westport you ride through the town and end in front of Westport’s town hall.

    Adding music to the ride:
Most cyclists would agree that the ride to Col du Tourmalet is awesome. But when it comes to music opinions are very mixed. This is why we do not add music to our rides. We simply do not want to spoil your ride with music you do not like. But it is quite simple to add it yourself. Open an extra browser tab. Find a site that offers music (Spotify, RUclips, etc…) and pick the music you like and enjoy the ride...

A sunny day on the west coast of the South Island. A rarity, indeed. I lived in Greymouth for a bit and had to move to Christchurch :)
