I experienced the same thing on the Jordan 31 low. I was slipping all over the place, planting before pulling up, and even gathering steps going for a lay-up, I would slide on clean court floors. On the other hand I have a friend who's a bit heavier than I am and he always had great traction on the 31's. So I guess the utilization of the traction material and probably other tech features too really depends on the user.
By no means a baller. That being said: I work at a Amazon where i'm constantly on my feet and I have to say the cushion really helps me out. My lower back feels less tight most likely from the shock absorption from the heel.
this preseason lebron is wearing some 16s that was in collab with a premiere shoe store in our country. just hope lebron wont slip on 17s. but its true the player's shoe is better than retail players, im sure the jordan 34 on zion's foot is much more durable than retails or else he'll break them again
Been waiting for this performance review, I agree about the traction. The split in the pods is the culprit since it affects the area of contact of the traction. Awesome performance review and quality content as always 👍. #justwingit
maybe i think the weight of the player can bee the factor also...as we all know this were designed for a bigger guy...or maybe im wrong...nice review as always
First these on court demonstration performance reviews are next level loving them. So much better in that you can show exactly what is that you like or dislike about the shoe. The explanation about the traction was the perfect example of that, so much more insightful to see it than hear about it. Never been a fan of Lebron shoes cause they tend to be bulky, heavy and high and I've seen guys wreck their ankles due to that instability, these continue the trend. Although the traction is great I'm not destroying my ankles because of them.
Picked these up this morning. Thx to Nike customer service for applying a bday $20 discount code only for nonsale and launch shoes. Now waiting on the Black/Royal Blue Flight 89
Shoes aren’t made for big guys or small guys. They’re made with specific attributes that some players want and other players may not. If they were only made for larger players they’d only release them in larger sizes. Shoes are made and sold to everyone. Sometimes they just don’t work out.
WearTesters let me rephrase, shoe archetypes in general (but definitely sigs) are made on a weight-to-size ratio along with other factors like playstyle. Bron is 260 and wears a size 15 and his shoes perform optimally for him(possibly due to them being custom). Imo in order to get the best results the shoes should be put in proportionate circumstances I.e. size 10, 175lbs (idk how much u.weigh). Hopefully that makes more sense .
@@Lowkey-yb4nm That is 100% inaccurate and just marketing for these signature shoes. We've had many conversations with designers and design teams about the footwear they create and it has nothing to do with anything you mentioned. The marketing department deserves a raise for tricking you, and many others, into thinking that is factual information when it is not.
WearTesters think abt this more practically, designers will get on television and say “This shoe is for everyone” and on another commercial say “This shoe was engineered to fit all facets of LeBrons game to the highest degree”. Both of these statements could be true, but one more so than the other. Can anyone play in them? Yes, but the shoe will pretty much always serve the signature players archetype best. Think back to the past few years of sigs, brons (designed for a high flying heavy body like LeBron)have always had heaps of cushion under foot with thick uppers, Kobe’s(serving a more low profile player)have minimal cushion with thin pliable uppers. LeBron couldn’t play in a Kobe for extended periods of time because of the lack of cushion and impact protection etc. Anyone can play in any shoe but they’ll for the most part serve certain archetypes better than others depending on the shoe. And in my previous comment forgive the weird terminology but basically all I was saying was “Kobe’s perform better on Kobe than they would on a 7 foot 300 pound center”.
Just got these, im 230 lbs and I have no issues with the traction, even on a dusty court it bites the floor. The extra weight really does help. (it has solid black rubber outsole so other colorways might be different)
These are my favorite shoes. I bought them for style, not performance. Personally, I think they look really cool. I haven’t seen any other shoes like it honestly...
The purple swirl looks amazing. The first time I saw the them in a store I grabbed them. This is exactly the kind of shoe I would have regretted not getting when I had the chance.
SirGriefALot same. I took one look and bought them lmao. I really wish they knew how much people liked that kind of design so they’d continue making them in the future.
william zhang sweet! Yeah, some people said the traction wasn’t as great as it could have been, but honestly I don’t think it would make that huge of a difference unless your really tryna squeeze out every drop of performance
Just picked these up I’m about 205 and I agree with nightwings thought on heavier players will have better traction these stuck just as good as the 16s for me
Hey man, I enjoy your vids. I’ve been watching you regularly since the Nike Zoom Kobe VI (which is still one of the best shoes I’ve ever worn). Keep on playing, man!
I have exact same issue with the currency version, that has semi-translucent outsole, Imo its not the seperate pods that cause the issue, because my pairs only experiences the issue on dusty court I think its the pattern of the outsole. The pattern in the 17 dont let the air-pressure escape when you stop, because the closed-angled shapes dont provide the air to exist the outsole, If you look at the 16s pattern, the “waves” does its jobs so well, because it doesnt trap the air once you squeak in motion, So basically whenever you stop in the 17s there is a slight pressure going upward on your shoes, and it may lift your shoes upward, hence the shoes stop biting on the surface of the floor, and that let the lateral motion continue hence you’re gonna side, That is the downside of the 17s pattern, But i think the reason lebron chose this pattern is because , he puts the priority on acceleration from dead point, in other word, he’d be able to accelerate from a standing still faster with the 17s outsole pattern, because essentially the contact surface’s area is bigger than the 16s. The 17s dead friction can withstand the starting acceleration forces much better so it wont slip upon the start of his run. 17s is a great shoes imo, because if you learn to score efficiently with minimal extreme change of paces in lateral movements, you’ll do your body a favour of reserving its legacy in a long run.
wow i'm shocked to hear that you had a bad experience with the traction. any chance you can get your hands on the future air pair? the translucent rubber was money for me
LeBron got crossed today by Evan Turner and I now see what you're trying to imply with the traction. How he slipped totally looked like it's because of the pods. It's great how you noticed and felt that. Great work as always man.
These saved my feet from the KD 7 elites I was playing in. Love this shoe, but I play on some haggard outdoor courts. I do wish they didn’t string the laces through the tongue tho.
The traction concerns are real. I bought a pair for my 15 year old(6' 180lbs size 13) son today. He played a game in them 2 hours later and was sliding all over. He has practices all week so I am hoping they will wear and get better. They are comfortable for him, but I didnt spend $200+ for them to look good. His 15s were great for him right out of the gate last year. The 16s were ok, but this is the first time I have witnessed him unable to stop without slipping. It threw off his game.
Skipped the Lebron 15 low because of the lack of traction. Glad I copped the Lebron 16. The Lebron 17 went back to the bad traction. Still like the look of the Lebron 15 low the best. I do like the Lebron 17 laker colorway as a laker fan.
I just bought these and I haven't tried them on the court yet but I wore these in my house a little bit and the traction fekt amazing, maybe I'll update when I try them on the court in the following weeks

Absolutely love this style of video and review, love the fact your not settling and are trying new things constantly. As for the shoes... such a shame, love the look, love the cushioning set up, but can’t be risking the injuries with a traction set up like that, what a let down, at least it’s a great looking shoe for casual wear
shit me too.. :/ I thoguht maybe it was a conisidence, but now i read a lot of comments here and just watched the first few minuts... unfortunatly this shoes has not the best side stability. I recognized this by some shake it and bake it moves...
The reason of the restricted mobility is because your a shifty player more than lebron, Lebron has his moments but he is only shifty if he wants a dunk not a shot.
I really like my Lebron 15. Cushioning is awesome which I care most about. But they ride high and ankle twisting machines. Do these have better lateral support?
Athlete shoes are ultimately made specifically for the player. Lebron weighs like 250lbs so im sure the traction works better on heavier players like he mentioned. When actually using basketball shoes on the court choose a shoe from a player similar to you it'll probably be the best fit.
Traction issues, maybe because these Lebron's are made for bigger and heavier players like current SF to Centers nowadays in the NBA. It'll be nice if they tested this to a 6'5'' 200+ lbs ballers for some perspective.
Shoes aren’t made for big guys or small guys. They’re made with specific attributes that some players want and other players may not. If they were only made for larger players they’d only release them in larger sizes. Shoes are made and sold to everyone. Sometimes they just don’t work out.
If it helps anyone, I am 6'2" 220 and the traction is fine for me. I don't know if I am considered "larger," but the shoe is great overall for me. Just my two cents.
Had the lebrons got them broken on. However I saw they cracked straight thru on the bottom returned and they gave me the red carpets. Let’s see if these ones are not defective. Also I have a wide foot took about 10 hours playtime to stretch out. Hurt my feet a bit but my knees felt great.
Honestly it's almost unforgivable to have bad traction on a shoe, it's such an important feature of the shoe. If you can't get it right on a clean court then that's inexcusable. It can literally cause injury. I've had shoes with bad traction a began experiencing knee pain because it kept slipping just a little bit everytime I would cut hard. And with that repeated trauma, even being minute, it can cause joint pain over time. Which is a shame because the rest of the shoe was near perfect(I believe it was the Lebron 15s, but I could be wrong). But some time after I switched shoes the pain began to subside.
I got these because of lower back pain and cushion here is amazing. Anyway, the traction is terrible especially if you are a light person like I am. It is doable but I would not recommend these if you have explosive movements and if you like to shift fast. If I could combine the cushion and structure of these shoes with the traction of LeBron Soldier 12 (my previous shoes) these would be godlike.
So apparently the traction on the white colorway with the translucent outsole is just as good as the Lebron 16 on dusty courts from what I hear. I was considering this shoe but I want to make sure the traction is up to par first.
weird that he’s saying the traction isn’t great when lebron hasn’t had any slips or lose of balance so far, he also looks more mobile when going downhill this year. read his review and while i understand he says shoes aren’t designed for specific players and stuff but the shoe does seem to be for bigger stronger guys with heavy feet or hard driving,

Was thinking the same. Played in my future air pair today and thought the traction was fine. I'm heavier than him though. Around 200.
Probably depends on the outsole rubber. And traction is sometimes really inconsistent with all the models. Depends on the colorway i guess... Again
so those dark colorways have inconsistent traction? he's not the only one saying its a hit or miss traction.

The reason of the restricted mobility is because your a shifty player more than lebron, Lebron has his moments but he is only shifty if he wants a dunk not a shot.

I played with the witness 4 and the traction was great. So it's weird that the 17s didn't work out for you.
Dude you've got to try those translucent outsole co'z the traction there is going to make like it very much
The traction on my pair sticks just fine 🤷🏿♂️
What colorway do you have?
theofficialdż15 black and white pair
@@godtiergr8ness84 okay thanks that's helpful god bless you🙏🏼
What’s better the top lace to tie it or the bottom part to lace
Nice review 👍
So apparently the traction on the white colorway with the translucent outsole is just as good as the Lebron 16 on dusty courts from what I hear. I was considering this shoe but I want to make sure the traction is up to par first.
This was in my recommendations when I watched your Lebron 18 Review
I have lebron 17s and the traction is amazing best shoes I’ve ever had and they squeak a lot
The on court videos are a great throwback to the older vids. Great review as always!
Nice! You should do the 18s
How you don't have over a mill subs is beyond me.
weird that he’s saying the traction isn’t great when lebron hasn’t had any slips or lose of balance so far, he also looks more mobile when going downhill this year. read his review and while i understand he says shoes aren’t designed for specific players and stuff but the shoe does seem to be for bigger stronger guys with heavy feet or hard driving,
I just found this channel and its fucking awesome!! Where the hell have i been this whole time!?!?!?
