  • Paul's 240Z is definitely one of the coolest, fastest and toughest around and with a full package of late-model ammunition under that classic body. Having just run a PB at his local track Mallala Motorsport Park, Paul is taking the car to World Time Attack again this year. Stay tuned for more footage!

    I purchased serial #2470 in late 1970 and as in love with the thing until I had to upgrade to carry more bodies around. Those early Z's weren't all that exciting to drive until the unsprung weight was reduced. Then it was fun. This thing has got to be drop jaw frightening but at 85 I'd still love to give it a go.

    the biggest regret I have in life is when I sold my 71 240z, owned her for 20 years, with the dream of one day giving her the makeover she deserved, she had a name "Doris". traveled all over east coast Australia with me. had so many great memories. being a Z enthusiast has its thrills especially when you drive your z and the reactions from little kids when they see one for the first time, its like "LOOK Mum, LOOK Dad" what is that, to me the 71 240Z was like being in a spaceship, taking you on a journey into uncharted territories hahaha, listen to me. seeing little kids faces light up with joy and excitement was an amazing feeling as kids would one day dream of investing in what they truly loved in a car. the same thing happened to me in 1989, I found a guy in a back street in South Yarra with his z bonnet up in the air as he was having issues with the side draught carburetors not getting fuel through, so I decided to walk over and see if I could help him, his car was in mint condition beautiful car. it was then the seed was planted that I knew one day I would own one, 4 years later I bought a 260z 2+2 of my brother who had bought it off my father, pearl white in color beautiful classic 1976 model, felt like a rock star in that car, I eventually traded the 260z with my brother who had acquired a 240z by chance...this is when I bought "Doris the 1971 Datsun 240z- hs31" it was an early build no. it was an absolute animal, naturally aspirated with twin side draught 240z Solex carburetors, it roared, OMG "she did not like going slow at all, don't think i will mention the speed, but lightning fast. dangerously quick, especially with inferior braking power and tires to match. as I say biggest regret in my life was selling my "Doris" almost say that I was married to her for 20 years. however, my children at the time needed a roof over their heads and Doris was the only real asset I could use to fund our move into another home. maybe one day I will own another one without the imperfections like dents and body rust....you can only dream and work towards them in they mean everything to you, really enjoyed this video, the car is almost identical to what I wanted for my old girl. modern motor, running gear and absolute thrill to drive every time you get in the car and give it to her on the race track as the just go, when you think they haven't got anymore speed in them, you would be totally surprised with the speed you can generate in a 47 year old classic- the 1969-1974 240z are world class. the 71 one in particular as it won the Dakar rally that year...if you're on FB and you want to connect and talk 240's I'm all ears as I love them to bits, best car in my life so far that I 100% owned without finance or regrets. cheers guys Alex Landsborough- "Z enthusiast"

    People cant believe 14 psi can make that much power because most people dont understand that a map sensor or a pressure gauge from the manifold is actually a measurement of what the engine is not using just as much as a representation of the atmosphere the volumetric efficiency of the engine is operating within. If the engine uses more air mechanically it's also consumes pressure.

    What a beaut of a car mate. You really did an absolute amazing job with the entire build. Kudos to ya! I reckon all she's missing, is some upgraded suspension work along with proper geometry, and her handling would wicked crazy! You can adjust the stiffness bias and dial her right in mate! A dynamic set of coil-overs on all fours, with caster/ camber plates, and she will be spot on for some wicked Autocross Comps mate! Keep building your dreams. Cheers from Western OZ!

    Beautiful car thanks for uploading. The thing that I think is a little disappointing about WTAC is the tyre they are all forced to use. In every other aspect anything goes. I realise it's about a level playing field but I'd like to see what is really possible. The main limiting factor to lap times is tyre adhesion.

      If I had a money, I'd go with the bored out L28 rebello produces (they bored as big as 3.2L, seen an Australian company push it as far as 3.35L bore, although I hear 3.1L is more reliable).
      Throw some triple SUs and deck it out front to back with OS Giken parts, probably have to suck some D for the elusive DOHC OS-Giken head😍 All black paint, chrome trim.
      Produces almost 400hp N/A on pump gas and throttle response is insane.

    19-23 psi != 1 bar. 1 bar is about 14.5 psi. According to the Track 240z - CCC Racing facebook post the 800 number was attained either at 19 or 23 psi.

    • @petermcdonnell9045

    Inspiration Mate! That RB is a beast. My brother and I built an SR swapped Datsun 510 autocross car. Now we're building an R32 Skyline GT-R. About rapped up the chassis, and up to our nick in the RB26 right now. Shooting for a realistic 550 rwhp, 8500rpm with stage 1 Tomei cam and valve train. Any advice?

  • @0foxgiven
    @0foxgiven 7 лет назад +2

    They have a good reason to not believe that you're at 1 bar. That would mean your engine would be making 400 if it were NA and your hotter intake air and ignition timing limitations allowed you 1 bar to make 100% more power, which they never do.
    For your stroked 2.6 to make that much power at 1 bar you better have 13:1 comp and rev it to 11k or something!

    • @0foxgiven
      @0foxgiven 7 лет назад

      Peter McDonnell
      It's not what I can build or what you can. It's physics, and sometimes it doesn't allow things. No way around that.

    • @0foxgiven
      @0foxgiven 7 лет назад

      Peter McDonnell
      lmao I love it when people think they know what they are talking about when the contrary is true.
      .
      .
      .
      The volume of air is the same, if it is filling the same cylinder the same number of times. The pressure is what changes.
      The mass of air that the turbo pushes is the important number as the energy of the combustion is a function of the masses of air and gas.
      mass flow through a pipe = density X volume flow rate
      Volume flow rate is the same, as it is filling the same cylinder the same number of times, but density changes when you go from NA to 14.7 psi.
      Density = pressure / (Gas constant X temperature) and if you are charging 14.7 psi, your pressure is double, so your density is double (if temperature doesn't go up up, which it does.)
      So how are you pushing more than double the mass of air, at only double the pressure?!
      .
      .
      .
      Now you're gonna call me stupid or something but I challenge you to explain to me, in physical terms, how your 14.7 psi is better than the next guy's 14.7 psi. I've proposed this to many people who claimed absurd numbers at absurd pressures and never got a good answer.

    • @0foxgiven
      @0foxgiven 7 лет назад

      Peter McDonnell Given your extensive knowledge of how bigger turbos push more volume at the same pressure, my money would be on your 14.7psi being about 5 off what it actually is pushing but who knows. Keep it up.

    • @mkIIIsupras
      @mkIIIsupras 7 лет назад

      Dude I wouldn't doubt anything Peter has to say when it comes to z car's and Nissan engines. Seen plenty of his L series builds making 300-350hp N/A on Carbs. Look his work up on facebook and then try and argue with him.

    • @0foxgiven
      @0foxgiven 7 лет назад

      I just called him a liar...What makes you think I'd believe his Facebook posts?!
      He bores out 28's to mid 3's and makes 350...not bad
      1 bar means double the air (mass wise) so if that doubles power (which it never does) he still wouldn't get close to 800hp with a 2.6.
