- K Smooth, born Kevin Smooth in 1972 in Atlanta, Georgia, is an American R&B singer and songwriter, best known for his soulful voice and his success as a solo artist following the disbandment of the popular 90s R&B group, Open Gates. He developed his vocal skills singing in the church choir and participating in local talent shows. His early exposure to diverse musical styles shaped his eclectic approach to music. In the late 1980s, Kevin, along with childhood friends Thomas "T-Top" Jackson, Big Ron, and Lil' Ray, formed Open Gates. The group quickly gained traction in Atlanta's vibrant music scene with their compelling blend of R&B and soul. Following the tragic death of T-Top and the subsequent breakup of Open Gates in 1998, K Smooth launched his solo career. The success of "P.I.M.P" led to the release of his debut solo album, "Solo Gates," which went on to achieve platinum status.
