      Yea Karl it's alright I think. Better than I was expecting. It doesn't feel premium although it seems to do the job just fine and for the money it performs as expected I think. I'm not a fan of keyless chucks on drill presses so this one fits the bill for me.

    Thanks Phill, interesting to see a more in depth review for this machine. I've seen mixed views on the drill especially regarding drilling metals and accuracy, but it looked fine in your review and it seems it should be OK for most DIY workshop use. TBH there is a similar drill from Bosch which is much more expensive and still has mixed reviews, I think a lot comes down to your expectations of a DIY machine !

    • @karlpopewoodcraft

      Hi Andy I suspect the drill bits people are using are influencing their opinion as well. I have a small silverline drill press very budget indeed but when I use famag drill bits it will cut through iron wood like butter. I think this scheppach drill look a good contender against the Bosch.

    • @PhillWyattProjects
      @PhillWyattProjects  Год назад +3

      Hi Andy 👍🏻 yes and I think it also comes down to luck. I think I got a good one straight out of the box. I'm not always so lucky when buying a new tool. With this one they seem to have simplified it and revised issues that the earlier models had even though it is the cheapest one they do I think it's decent. I was looking at the Bosch model although it's almost double the price of this one so that put me off a bit.

    Nice video . I have just bought one to replace my Wolf bench pillar drill high was belt driven. As others have mentioned, the handle is awful I can't imagine what was in the designers mind. The handle does work OK but it is just weired. The spring loaded spigot on the chuck key is a very good idea from a safety perspective ( it prevents you leaving the key inplace) however, it makes it very fiddly put the key in and keep it there when tightening the chuck. A really good addition would have been somewhere to keep the key when not in use!
    The work piece clamp is very goods but there is no way to drill holes other than perpendicular ..separate tables allow the table to moved through 90 deg from the horizontal ; this drill can not do this. The instructions are very poor and it took me hours to work out how to set the depth stops. I would have preferred a digital read out for the depth travel and I Think the 60 model has this like the Bosch machine.
    It is quite and the electronic speed control is a boon over the old belt system. It is a big irreverent over the old type machines

    Hello Phil,
    I watched your review after finding a deal for one of these and figured it sounded worth a go. Seems as described so far, except the motor unit wobbles side-to side on the post significantly. Is this something you have experienced at all, or perhaps since you made the review?
    Thank you

    To check the rotary shaft for sloppy bearings, just fit a 10mm drill bit. Grab point of drill and try to move it left / right front / back.

    A good video, I just bought this machine, I am in France, and on promotion for € 79.99. I absolutely did not want a machine where you have to change space belts, in principle, it should not be done often as a professional. But we are not pros. This machine should suit me, no need to buy a professional drill, for the work I am going to do, we can see the second market but the machines are rare and believed.

    The DP60 has a huge feature over this, it has 2 gears. Unless you can get DP55 ridiculously cheap and need it only for very light drilling, I would (and did) absolutely get DP60 instead.

      The extra price isn't worth the lower rpm speed for wood working, still the same max rpm but unless you do a lot of metal work it's a pointless feature, it doesn't offer any more drilling capacity both are 280mm chuck to base.

      I agree with @penttijakonen3817 if you do much drilling in steel. I have the DP55 and it lacks the torque to drill steel over 6.5 mm diameter at correct feed and speed. With larger drill bits and slower speeds (500-700rpm), if you apply enough downward pressure to cut an acceptable feed rate then the speed slows and pulses in bursts as the machine tries to compensate. It's anything but a smooth process and quite disappointing. I really wish I'd bought the model with the 2 speed box for the greater available torque. If only used used as a wood working drill however, then this problem doesn't show up and it works quite well.

    Habe mir die Bohrmaschine angeschafft und kann nur sagen, sehr enttäuschend. Nach noch nicht einmal 10 Bohrungen, gab die Maschine den Geist auf. Zuerst ruckliger Motorlauf, dann Stillstand. Auf dem Display konnte man alle möglichen Drehzahlen einstellen, aber die Maschine lief nicht mehr an. Weiteres Manko, Bohrer mit 1mm Durchmesser lassen sich nicht fest einspannen. Laser zum Markieren des Bohrloches, zeigt nicht die Mitte an, sondern 1cm daneben. Schwergängiges Heben und Senken der Maschine.

      @@PhillWyattProjects I have a similar machine (Scheppach DP60) and have complained about it twice and sent it back twice. But the third(!) machine also had the same defect. Scheppach does not manage to produce reasonable drill chucks (or drill shafts). The machines are sufficient for “moderately precise” drilling in wood, but anyone who works with metal will not be happy with them
