He was actually born in Swindon, England, but grew up in Perthshire and considers himself Scottish. He tells this himself in his book, The Man Who Cycled The World.
It wasn't really a wall, it was the circle of gravity of the heart. His holistic system understood what he's really about to do and that hold hit his mind at mile 10.
His record has been beaten many times now. But Guiness needs to make additional categories or rules to make things clear. The people who have beaten him were on supported rides and bigger budgets. The easiest way to clear up the records would be having weight categories for the bikes. Those people who are making the trip in less than 100 days are not riding fully loaded like Beaumont did.
I read the book, I've seen the youtubes. I'm definitely a fan of Marc. Record or not, I just like this guy. And I love Schotland. Go for it Marc! And ... you're sitting on a Dutch bike. Good choice. Ha!
given the instability of global financial system and geo political climate, threats of WW3, terrorism, a bike route thru US unfrieldly regions, would you advise two 23 year olds to bike around the world this 2016-2017 year without doing any due diligence? Please reply asap
hub gears, yeah good idea. On a vertical dropout frame with a chain tensioner? Bloody stupid. Would have just got mercian to knock something up for two and a half grand.
No doubt this is a really hard feat, but it's plain silly what the guy says at 3:18 If I go to my local gym and I push the "highest gear possible" at let's say.. 80-90 RPM, I would put about 800-1200 watts average over 30-45 seconds before puking my guts.. When you ride 8 hours a day for 200 day, your average power output is about 175-230 watts at most depending on your physical shape and weight! For exemple, average output for cancellara on Paris-Roubaix 2013 : 300 watts for 6 hours.
awesome adventure, but don't understand why he would want to be the fastest, constantly looking at the time, going as fast as possible pfff that'd ruin it fer me :D Also don't understand how even with this ppl are still bitching about getting a 'normal job' srsly wtf that's not even small mindedness anymore, that's braindead!
jealous? jealous of having wheels with breakable spokes? there are wheels with only 4-5 heavy duty "spokes". Also there are tires that do not go flat, so why would I be jealous of tires that DO go flat?
didn't catch this when it was on tv, thanks for the upload!
Thanks for putting this on. I've been searching everywhere for the dvd, doesn't seem to exist!

would that helmet actually work?
did he have a bike fit before he left ? thats the first thing I would of done. good going tho
man... Where did he sleep? In hotels or what? God, it makes me lazy to even consider such a journey...
in a tent, and the occasional hotel/hostel
you get to see the world what person wouldn't want to do that
I have also this year going around the world!
If he's going to be this ambitious, he should've gotten better wheels/tires...
Aren't there tires NOW that DON"T go ...........FLAT?
EXCELE3NT!!!
interesting handlebars
It makes NO SENSE to ride around the world with wheels that have spokes or tires that go flat. We've gotten past those lo-tech problems.
amazing!!!

He's Scottish actually, or British.
He pack a lot of stuff, no wonder stuff kept messing up. too much weight.
He's Scottish not English. Some find the distinction important.
9:07 2500 pounds?! What?!!
I met him today at my school
I don't know if you know cycling or anything, but it's a sport with a lotta expendable income.
Reporters are not into bycicle theme.. "if he cant fix it"??? if you drive something like this you must be able to fix a spoke omg
