Love how Dave got so offended when Casey and Kevin noted that it was loud. I mean, it is, but he doesn't want to acknowledge that - "it's soothing!" lol. And saying "lets go to an airport, and then you can assess is not a winning argument.
I appreciate David Carbons honesty about regulations. It would have been easy to blame the government for drone delivery not taking off but instead it became clear that the technology is not quite there yet and it just seems like neither is the demand.
This video was awesome! You should do more interviews with hardware demos like this, there are so many cool robotics startups out there (construction robotics, vertical farms, autonomous tractors, medical robots, etc)
question for amazon: why not have an identifiable light-signiture on your drones (say 3 blue lights in a triangle) so that when people see a drone with that light pattern, they'll just say, "oh, it's amazon, no worries" ? Not sure if this is do-able, but just wondering
FAA requires drones to have anti-collision lights, which have certain requirements. They should not be fixed (Should blink or strobe) They must be red or white The lights must be visible from a distance of 3 miles
Lovely Potemkin Village of an Amazon warehouse! And a 20 acre brush fire didn't put any humans in danger? This guy! Finally, that old dude was def hiding a pew-pew!
i feel like if Kevin Roose and Casey Newton and I ever all hung out together we would become fast friends. I have a very parasocial relationship with them because of listening to hours of them on road trips. God bless America.
@@hardfork i will make every attempt to avoid using it unless i need life saving medication that somehow Amazon will deliver and the ambulance ride will take longer.
I couldn't possibly annoy my neighbours this much. If I really need something in an hour I should just learn to plan better. Or, walk 15 minutes to the store as penance.
I’m an FAA certified drone pilot and I think they are awesome for getting establishing shots and great art. But these giant drones are a bad idea. Imagine if that thing fell on your car or your house or your kids. Plus they have to have cameras on them. So… one man’s opinion.
I work for a similar Amazon site and thanks to your podcast I now know more about drone delivery than my site leader. I'm already letting them know I'm interested in working on drone delivery if they start it here! People are going to love ordering sex toys in an hour or less, and bags of chips, and eyeliner...
casey got tall morphology
Loved getting to see more of the whole team that make this awesome show possible 🛫
All I want for Christmas is another year of Hard Fork
in that case i have some good news for you
I didn't know they had legs. Casey tall.
@@JadeHe-g3p they don't, they're walking around on boingos

As an audio listener, how is Casey so tall!?
science has no answer for it honestly
Why was the Amazon guy escorting Gino back to his house at 47:00 lol “Come on Grandpa, let’s get you back inside you’re ruining the shoot.”
🤣🤣🤣
Weird to see them in the wild but as a fellow huge person, I feel very represented by Casey.
huge boys represent
A great episode.. a nice glimpse into what the future might look like.
This was such a great show!

should have said: i don't work for amazon, but i am a licensed drone pilot
Please record the next episode while standing up in studio
They already tried the loud one, this is 40% quieter, therefore not loud.
Casey has legs no way

There should have been a poop sound when the package dropped...a top tier comedy moment missed.
I’m not kidding you at all, it took a lot of self control not to do that!! -Ryan
that was really loud. imagine trying to relax in your backyard only to be disturbed by what sounds like a swarm of bees.
2nd week in a row you got me to listen and then come to YT to watch parts.
oh shit an on-the-ground pod LFG
My favorite tech show. Happy Holidays! 🎄🎅🎉🥂
I was waiting for the package to be blown into the pool.... darn maybe next time.

thank you!! honored to have you as a listener
This in every way speaks to first generation... That giant box and that giant drone delivering a gift card....
Could you see yourself using this?
no love birds too much

Mic drop? Drone Drop!
Speed doesn't matter to me haha sorry
How tall is Casey?! (All Hard Fork fans are only discussing this 😅). Oh and the Amazon guy with Aussie accent
Tell Neuralink to test something to failure! OMG!!!

In any case, great episode!
