Law abiding citizen dude it was an awesome movie
Expect the ending...
@@yaro42 I think the endings pretty bittersweet but it fit what it was going for best.
Great video! A few more honourable mentions: Out of the furnace (2013), The equalizer (2014), Hummingbird (2013), The italian job (2003), Parker (2013), Hummingbird (2013).
"Man on Fire" deserved more respect and an oldie that did not get mentioned was "Hang em High".
Man On Fire for the win. Would be a perfect film if only he'd one of his own butt-bombs before surrendering to the bad guys... (Interestingly, that was an alternative ending they actually shot)
you must forget payback for Mel Gibson in this list , your list need update after 2014 John Wick sure :)
loose remake of Point Blank
You're forgetting The Outlaw Josey Wales, an ultimate revenge film....
And high plains drifter
JOSEY WALES DESERVES THE TOP 5
It's not really a revenge film. It's a chase film. Josey actually does not seek confrontations other than the first one.
@@johnanderson9028 no
Rolling Thunder is a good one.
Get Carter is an EXCELLENT movie. It also shows how gritty older movies could be. No political correctness at all!
Nice video. I would have included "Man on Fire" in the top ten, along with "The Secret in Their Eyes."
Shhiiittt props for Dead Man's Shoes being mentioned I completely forgot about that film..
'The Rover', 'John Wick', 'Man on Fire', 'Payback', and about 100 more...
John wick came out a month after this video
I would personally replace Taken with John Wick (I know it hadn't come out when you guys made the video). I would also add Django Unchained to the Honorable Mentions at least. Your lists are great, as usual.
Gladiator was an extraordinary movie from beginning to end. Glad to see it on this list.
True, but how did they miss out on The Long Good Friday?
Good list. In my opinion the two other films of the Chan Wook Park trilogie (Sympathie For Mr.Vengance, Lady Vengance) should be on the list, as well as I Saw The Devil by Kim jee Woon. And maybe A Bittersweet Life too. But it would be an all South-Korean list then ^^ But South-Korean are the best for revenge movies aren't they ?
Totally agree with you! I saw the devil is just insane! i also like "The man from nowhere"
David Renoux I just commented to someone else I saw the devil was one of the worst movies I ever seen
Hell yeah, _'OLDBOY'_ was a badass #1 pick. Though you forgot to include _'Mad Max',_ _'The Exterminator'_ and many others already mentioned in the comment section...
Mad Max one of the greatest revenge films ever!
Absolutely! Murdered wife and son... Horrifically burned friend...
Max Rockatansky took care of the bad guys...
Was able to see it in the theater a few times...
High Plains Drifter, The Odessa File, The Marathon Man, The Appaloosa, One-Eyed Jacks, Seven Men From Now, Ride Lonesome
I cannot tell you how happy i am with this list
I think there are a couple of honourable mentions that I would have elevated into the top 10 but all in all, they were a good selection.
1) I Saw the Devil, 2) : Old Boy. 3): Bittersweet Life, 4) The Chaser, 5): Lady Vengeance: Thats my top five.
Point Blank with Lee Marvin. GREAT movie.
No question. A consummate, pure revenge movie worthy of top 5 status. Taken should be placed in a Top 10 for "Rescue" movies....The Professionals, Princess Bride perhaps, etc.
Nevada Smith comes to mind. The Carpetbaggers was to long a book to include every thing and Nevada Smith was to good a chapter to ignore so they made a whole new movie for it!!!!!!!!!
I think Nevada Smith would have benefited from having a different actor play Steve McQueen's character at the beginning of the movie that the movie had taken place over a number of years.
The Sting deserved an honourable mention, at least.
A strong suggestion for one that is right up there in heart though without all of the carnage is the original (1962) Hara Kiri. Check it out if you haven't seen it...
Fantastic list!
"Faster" with The Rock at his finest!!
old boy deserves to be on no 1 spot, it will stuck in your mind once you watch it ;) also "i saw the devil", "kahani 2012", "the secret in their eyes"
You forgot Denzel in the Equalizer, and Clint in multiple movies.
First Blood!
Pale Rider(Clint Eastwood)
Fists of Fury
I don't know if you consider Indian movies in this list but there is a movie named "I" 2015 staring Vikram and directed by Shankar. it's worth mentioning and watching.
I'm not seeing how Taken is a revenge film. His goal is to save his daughter not get revenge. Any revenge is a coincidence.
Oldboy does indeed leave the main character played, but holds a well deserved top spot.
Big misses in my mind: I saw the devil and The Villainess. Glad to see Charles Bronson on here.
Great list.
I would have added; the Outlaw Josie Wales, Out of the Furnace, and Payback (Gibson).
Although not a movie, Season 1 of the Punisher blows all of these wonderful films out of the water with room to spare. Once Upon at Time ... can't be missed. Fonda's casting, inspired. I would have moved Unforgiven up on the list. And of course, True Grit
Excellent list but maybe a redefining or a 20 strong list.
If Taken is an actual revenge film (instead of a violent rescue film like The Searchers and Taxi Driver), then I would swap it out for The Man from Nowhere. Koreans make great revenge movies.
As time goes by. Chato's Land looks better and better as great anti-war and revenge film. The best of all- and Bronson again.
Great list
Great lists
I saw the Devil, Munich
Disappointed that "I'll sleep when I am dead" and "Thief" (or the Mel Gibson remake "Payback") didn't make the list. #3 & #2 are good choices, but the revenge in Oldboy, is what the brother does to the main character (kidnapping and imprisoning him) for the death of his sister. Other revenge flicks more infamous than famous, would be: "I spit on your grave", "Ms. 45", "Salon Kitty" and "I saw the Devil."
I Saw the Devil?
Evan Tallman I dis agree one of the worst movies of all time
Hell yeah, now that`s a revenge movie....an example how you make revenge-movies.
@@tonybell3014 hahahaha you are crazy wena
true true
"Death Sentence" with Kevin Bacon.
Oldboy was never a satisfying revenge story he remains played until the end.
Exactly
Memento?
"Ya bleevn Jeezis? Now yer gonna meet 'im." - Paul Kersey
You missed the greatest most satisfying revenge movie of all time...RoboCop (1987). Still I'm happy Oldboy, Once Upon a time in the West, Get Carter, and Death Wish are on here
The brave one/ out law Josie Wales/Hangum high/ high plans drifter/ the punisher / Jeremiah Johnson/ there’s a few you forgot
What about sudden impact and enter the dragon????
Old Boy is an amazing movie! Thx
Your taste is completely different than mine.
Two worst disappointments I've watched in the vengeance genre - included. I mean "Kill Bill" and "Harry Brown". Respect for knowing "Deadman's Shoes" but I think it still doesn't deserve the top 10. "Taken" is 10'th? It's the best!
My current ranking is:
1. "Taken", "Equalizer"
2. "Edge of Darkness", "Homefront", "The Suspect", "Jack Reacher: One Shot", "Recoil"
Honorable Mentions - "Law Abiding Citizen" (would be a top1 if the end wasn't so fucked up)
- "Jason Bourne" (all) (it's a bit of something different than vengeance, but still the type I love the most - unstoppable, intelligent and skilled one-man-army)
No more words for it
Death sentence
Robocop
Commando (kind of)
Upgrade
Dead man shoes is such a gem💎
the count of monte cristo.. django
mark manulit Django was a good one!!!
Count of Monte Cristo is easily the best
I second the Count of Monte Cristo, but not the Jim Caviezel version. Give me the TV movie with Richard Chamberlain and Tony Curtis or nothing at all...
You Missed Law Abiding Citizen and yes John Wick
Better than Mojo's list, this one has the Crow and Oldboy in it. How the fuck could Mojo not have Oldboy on the list? That film takes the revenge story in a new direction.
Mojo gave oldboy an honorable mention.
Kind of prepostorous that the film didn't make the list.
I definitely agree with you
ah the proper version of oldboy. Fantastic film
good list
Walking Tall (The original version)... mic drop.
High Plains Drifter, Pale Rider, Running Man and pretty much any Dirty Harry movie. Harry Brown should have been higher given the circumstances.
Incluiría Nueve Reinas, tremenda película argentina, donde todos menos uno buscan venganza
** There is a mistake in the video I apologise for, during the second choice I accidentally say Ford instead of Fonda, for this I'm sorry and have only just realised the fault
How about a movie actually called Revenge with Kevin Costner?
SICARIO,REVANENT,MAN ON FIRE,MAD MAX..
Ur comment shud get 1000 likes
I see that the original "Man on fire" with Scott Glenn gets no love.
I never knew that was a remake. I need to find that one
If you ever have a chance to read the book don't pass it up. They toned things down a bit for both versions of the movie
I Saw The Devil
John Wick
High Plains Drifter
Slaughter
Commando
The Expendables 2
Payback
Rolling Thunder
"Blue Ruin"
Yeah its pretty good.
Another great list. And I agree with "Taken", it's a better movie than "Léon", such an overrated film. "Ocean's 11" (Soderbergh's), "Quantum of Solace", "Mad Max" and "Falling Down" are also great movies with revenge as a part of the plot, but a smaller one.
Taken is not revenge bit rescue because she's not dead
thx for recommending falling down movie....i luved it
man you have a weird taste... but respect anyway
Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer is sweet revenge ... LOL
Why is "Death Wish" number 9? I thought "Death Wish" was the number 1 greatest revenge film of all time.
@Moishie You're right, it isn't a revenge film.
Lets not forget Stephen Kings " Big Driver" I will not spoil it for anyone...Watch it and enjoy!!!
Mad Max
I wouldn't really say Gladiator is a revenge movie. Sure, Russell Crowe says he'll have his revenge, but it's not centered on that. He didn't plot to execute his revenge when he was made a gladiator. He eventually got his revenge but the movie didn't specifically build up for it.
Really not a revenge film!!!!!! Everyone id intitaled to there opinion tho
Look up what imminent and subsequent means
How can this list possibly be complete without mention of at least one of the many versions of the ultimate revenge tale THE COUNT OF MONTE CHRISTO or the many other films it inspired including THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION?
mark60123 I
Thank you ,
only disagreement with you pick , V . should have been on the list , (IMO) .
I would really like to watch movies like John wick, V for V and taken . Suggestions anyone?..
David Chian, Chang Cheh' s Vengeance.
"Stalingrad", the ultimate revenge.
There was no accidental death of Brandon Lee. Never in the history of cinema was there ever any accidental shooting of an actor, not even a scratch or anything minimally similar. Brandon like his father was murdered by the Chinese triads. It was a message, his mother knows it all too well but you never, ever hear her suggest even the slightest idea of foul play because she still has a daughter she loves dearly.
You forgot the best one- Django unchained.. such a shame
PREACH. I FORGOT ABOUT DJANGO. PORTRAYS THE DEEP SOUTH IN ITS UGLY SELF
I thought the first place would be John Wick... Quite disappointed..v
Last Man Standing....is a classic (for me). Is it a revenge film....?
the limey didn't even get amention?? c'mon UK
What about Lucky Number Slevin?
Oldboy é muito louco.
"I spit on your grave" springs to mind.
Post 2014... john wick, black 47, fury road, the nightingale
List fails absent The Outlaw Josey Wales.
law abiding citizen
Oldboy...The best
Old Boy is a revenge story of a guy whose sister was forced to commit suicide because of false rumours...but that's a worst way of taking revenge
Harry brown is a top film it deserves to be in the top 5 at least
Payback
Oldboy...never heard of it taken..should have been #1
_'OLDBOY'_ deserves the #1 spot, not only for being a badass revenge movie but, also having a crazy ass storyline with a crazy ass twist. I recommend people check it out on Netflix (if you have Netflix) before they take it down (and stay away from the American version - that's utter garbage)...
“The Limey”
Enter the Dragon.
Harakiri (1962) really should have been on this list.
Kill Bill for thé soundtrack !
