I just realized today he would have made an amazing Mr Rochester. The shame! The wasted opportunity! Why didn’t anyone cast him in this? Especially when he was in his 40s-early 50s. He would have been so perfect for that role!
Alan Rickman is a brilliant actor. The intense subjectivity of his gestures is as charming as they are so smooth and delicate. The way he moves his eyes, his eyebrows, his hands, his face, his body, his lips ; everything is so controlled but so gracious and light that it seems done without thinking but I'm truly sure that he is doing it on purpose. When he is on the screen he's so magnetic you have to look at him, he gets your attention with his subtle gestures, He is captivating. What a pity I'm not a native english speaker I don't get everything he is saying with his british accent and watch his movies without his unique voice is just a great waste. His face at 0:46 ; 1:58 ; 2:30 -2:34 ; 3:06 ; 4:02 - 4:10 is priceless XD

@@Miss-cg4fr Sorry to be a pedant he was RADA trained where they took his voice and voice production and re built it. If you hear his brother speaking you will hear just how far Alan travelled and worked at his voice, from where he started for which we are so grateful,
I agree with all you have said. When Alan talks about Fred Astaire whose dancing he must have admired Alan said Astaire practised til his feet bled so that it looked effortless. No doubt Alan subscribed to the same level of work . He even remarks often about the female actresses that were completely prepared and how it was the absolute right way to work. He was the Vice Chairman of RADA and prior to that was on a number of important committees at the drama school. Am I the only person that thinks Slope's behaviour when having tea with Mrs Bold and her sister in law was very prissy, stirring his cup and facial expressions are very deliberately mannered and not manly I am thinking, a little bit beyond best manners. Rickman is hilarious in this, Mr Slope has something of the ' humbleness' of URIAH HEEP from David Cooper field, indeed HEEP and SLOPE even sound conjoined
Obadiah Slope, what a glorious name, and played so gloriously by Alan Rickman , oh how I miss him! He looks a bit like Benedict Cumberbatch here. Also, did anyone think the way he spoke to the baby was really creepy? Brilliant performance from Mr. Rickman, nevertheless!
The smarmy Obadiah Slope. I have this on DVD ,a marvellous BBC production, from the days when their period plays were outstanding. Nigel Hawthorn ,Donald Pleasance and a cast of fabulous actors and actresses.
Notice how his outfit is very much like his outfit in Harry Potter? Huh...I think I found the original Severus Snape at his actual age. Imagine if he had been this age when he was cast for the role of Snape!! *swoon*
The first time I saw Alan Rickman was in this series. I thought he was superb. That Obadiah Slope was such a sleazeball. It was not too long after that I also discovered how overwhelmingly sexy he can be.
Who would have thought sexy went with slimy? - I had the chance to see Alan Rickman with Lindsey Duncan in “Les Liaisons Dangereuses ” at the Ambassadors theatre in London in the eighties, after seeing him in this series. If rich, smooth dark chocolate had a voice, it would sound like Alan Rickman.🍫🍫🍫🍫🍫🍫🍫
No he would disapprove of you wasting your time on the internet. He would disapprove of everything about you. he ended up marrying a rich widow and forming a very restrictive Chapel
this is great! I guess all those years of work are what allowed him to give Snape such depth and breath! Funny that Dan said Snape was the role of Rickman's lifetime and Rickman was probably thinking you have no idea how much work I've done but I still think Dan was right !

li Tanja It’s not that he didn’t like to play them. It’s that he didn’t only want to be recognized for only those type of roles. His approach to playing those characters was that he didn’t really think of them as simply cardboard cutout villains. He was more interested in what motivated them to do the things they did, no matter how evil.
