    Converse Chuck Taylor All Star CX Review - Converse All Stars are one of the most iconic shoes in the world but they are not known for their comfort or durability. The Converse CX line claimed to fix both of these issues, particularly with the converse disrupts BUT are they any good? I bought a pair and cut them in half to see what's inside aaaaaand it was rather disappointing. The Chuck Taylor CX ended up being converses worst rendition of their classic chuck taylor sneaker.

    Whenever I see any uprated Chuck Taylor like this I get sad at how the Chuck 2 flopped. I loved them, most comfortable shoe I've ever owned. And enough of the classic style while being a proper shoe and not a canvas sack for your foot. Here in the UK the price difference to the standard shoe was around £10 - and all it did was make the standard chucks seem incredibly overpriced.

      I've bought the CX Hi, so comfy and light compared to OG and Chuck 70. But Chuck II is still the best-constructed Converse. Not as light as the CX but the build quality of Chuck II is like premium shoe. I even wore the Chuck II as my go-to hiking shoes for bird photography for 2 years, the only part that breaks is the sole. Not the best shoe for that kind of terrain, but the comfort sure helps a lot. The best Converse I've ever had.
      But these CX is the closest to the Chuck II comfort but I won't be taking it to my photography trips.

    I like them. A white low would be perfect for throwing on and having a quick spring or summer adventure. I think a fairly cheap mod to really increase the lifespan on these would be to sand the soles down a little more flat and slap on a sheet of Vibram Raptor tread or whatever rubber. It’d add maybe $20 or so to the total cost, but that stuff wears so hard they’d last so much longer

  • @johnnyt7067

    I have now had two pairs of these, both the same as the one in the video except in white and with a green sole on the recent one. As a huge fan of Chucks (I own over 20 pairs) I rate these pretty highly.
    They are the best Chucks for wearing in the summer. Yes the bouncy sole is comfortable but the biggest thing for me is the liner. That material is very slippery which greatly reduces rubbing when wearing then with low cut socks. That is a huge improvement of the simple canvas in regular Chucks.
    The downside is the durability however it didn't wear out in the way you suggested, for me at least. The sole hasn't worn smooth but rather has picked up small rips and tears. My bikes pedals are particularly bad for leaving these marks. This isn't a major issue though. The bigger issue for me is the general construction of the shoe has come "loose" I guess. The layers of the upper have delaminated which makes them less comfortable to wear. I may be partly responsible because I did put the first pair through the washing machine a few times to try and keep them white and this really seemed to do a number on them. Won't be doing that with the second pair. Also the slippery lining seems to last much better than the standard canvas, particularly on the heel counter.
    As you say in the video and other have in the comments, it's such a shame that more thought wasn't put into the shoe. There are elements to this that I wish they would take into all Chucks (e.g. the liner) and parts of them are brilliant but I guess what I'm really asking for is Chuck 2s to come back or even for Chuck 3s to get made?

So I won’t be too worried about these chucks. In fact I think they are really cool and I’m glad to hear they are really comfortable. I usually stay away from chucks because they are uncomfortable to me and too flat, but i might check these out. Plus I like they tweaks and improvements done to them.

    I have been wearing my pair, exact same as in the video for as long as they have been out, and they are still in brand new condition. They got dirty once and I threw them in the machine, and washed up beautifully. I guess they made it with the foam so they can be washed and dry out fine without going bad or brittle. Used to wear them in HS, late 80’s, could get them at Foot Locker for around $20. Like many other products it looks like they cost more and are made cheaper now. This is about as simple a shoe construction as it gets and shouldn’t cost nearly as much as they do. They used to be great wading shoes for fishing because you could hose them off and let them dry and wear them as usual.

    I think I have a reason for the white foam under the rubber insole. I do have two pairs of the low top and two pair of the Chucks All Star low top. I think your heel doesn't quite sink to the bottom of the rubber insole but the insole presses into the foam so as your foot is sitting dead flat. Walking around on a hard floor the Converse X feel just like the normal All Star as to how level your feet are. I also think the light foam allows the foot to sit lower. I just walked on the floor with a CX on one foot and the All Star on the other and almost identical. The CX has you foot very slightly further off the ground, not much though. So in summary I think the combination of the rubber insole is to increase cushioning over the All Star while keeping the foot dead flat and almost identical distance for the foot from the floor.

    I have had them in mauve for 3month, I bought them hopefully so they would keep cleaner than regular chucks. The stretch canvas stains the same as regular canvas but the rubber outsole doesn't mark as much as the with one. I have large feet and the stretchiness adapt better to my foot with this model. the sole is easier to clean as well so not so smelly feet.

    They've already done Chucks with a rubber cup sole and drop-in Lunarlon/Phylon midsoles. Nike/Converse has been doing all kinds of stuff since Nike bought them, and Nike has done quite a few shoes with foam or mostly foam outsoles with little issue. Chucks usually fail at the heel, foxing, or toe-crease-area, so why not sacrifice outsole durability for comfort?

  • @SlavicCelery
    @SlavicCelery 3 года назад +1

    Worst part of that soft foam sole, they cannot grip some surfaces. If a zebra crossing is wet, those soles slip and slide all over the place. I love super light and flexible shoes so I've bought a number of shoes with that sort of sole. I found the solution from etnies scout is the best. They got the soft foam sole, with some harder rubber inserts at wear points. So they don't slip around like the others do.

    I think the white layer is there to be knitted to the body and add surface for the body to be glued to the sole, doesnt seem like the sole's material would hold the knitting well since it was so easy to cut. (idk if knit is the right word to use, english is not my first language)

    Bro, listen, these shoes with those stretchy shoelaces. UGH! sooo comfy. Not the best for standing all day, but pretty good for walking all day. (I'm thinking, for like a theme park or going to the park, these are ultra comfy, took them to work once though, and stnding in place without moving, after a while, felt like normal chucks, walking is their speciality. These should be marketed as walking shoes for sure).
