in that case, they made it the easy way. :) steel plates welded directly to the frame... no rubber mounting ... the mounting point is a lot closer to the frontend, compared to the m20 and m40..
How is the handling with M30? I've read a lot, that big&heavy M30 upsets the handling of e30 greatly, because nice front/back weight balance is lost...
the car no longer exists with this setup... but when we filmed it, it was actually bone-stock, just lower springs and emptied cabin. Also, welded diff and worn-out rear tires. At 0:54 he puts it in 3rd gear :)
@plytagalvis You get horrible weight balance with the M30. In a M635CSi you got 57% of the weight on the front wheels, which is a horrific amount. The E30 is an even lighter car, and therefore the weight balance is even worse. It's a pity, since the E30 got such a nice and low weight. It would be a track day killer with this amount of power.
It's not a big issue just push the engine more to the fire wall and it' will be 55% front and 45 %back. In Southern Africa specially South Africa and Namibia we have the E30 Bmw 333i with the same engine weight wise but it's a 3litre in size. I have recently done the E30 M30 swap from an E32 735i. It has got a hell of power. It's just plug in and start but you have to do the mounts and electric fan. not that expensive if you have all the necessary parts from m30 car.
old comment but if its us car it will be the low comp engine with 180hp or something.. also my euro e34 535 wont spin tires if i have too wide tires on it. but with crappy steelies it will spin in 4rd gear if its wet on road
I found out the timing chain was off a tooth, i can't believe how much difference that made, unfortunately my radiator decided to mix trans fluid with the coolant and damaged the transmission.. Got rid of the car, wishing i wouldn't have now, the interior was damn near perfect, a little rust but nothing horrible..
That coolant bottle holding on for dear life hahaha
your vid gives me enough motivation to finish my swap week by week
thumbs up! :)
this video is what made me do my first m30 swap.
it's gonna be the video that makes me do my 2nd m30 swap soon.
+Psygo1 I'm really hyped this old vid. keeps people's spirit up! Cheers and good luck! :)
awesome how you can see the throttle amount through the whole video that would be awesome to see in a drift or road course race
i was watiching this video in 2016 doing my m30 e30 now that i have 6.0 m117 e30 i do miss the m30 sometimes
This video made me really happy and excited and then really sad, wish I could be doing this too😔
Such an awesome video!!
This is still my favourite m30 video out there.
What a powerhouse :) should move the e30 chassis quite nicely
in that case, they made it the easy way. :) steel plates welded directly to the frame... no rubber mounting ...

Nice Sound
bonestock! straight exhaust only :)
Nice video!
@plytagalvis it's got fiberglass trunk and bonnet and the car is totally stripped! ;)
@Overdrive872 That was interesting, never heard that before. Stock m40?
Damn! Definitely considering doing this swap now, do you recommend it? Sounds so dirty!
I dont usually take the time to comment.....but god damn thats how you do a first test!
@Overdrive872 Was your trunk and interior stripped? And fuel tank empty?
How is the handling with M30?
I've read a lot, that big&heavy M30 upsets the handling of e30 greatly, because nice front/back weight balance is lost...
Great place to do some sideways.. What's the exhaust? Sounds like there's no exhaust at all or straight through..?
It originally came an IS, then it got an m20b20 turbo, then this m30m35... :)
Such a cheap and easy swap. I'd consider it. (I have one)
my engine :( :D nice sound :D
@KadettLino, your cone air filter broke off at 0:44 hehe.
How hard was it to complete the conversion ie space, wiring loom
did this car have a four cylender before you swaped ??
100% ;)
is it hard to instal a M30B35 in a E30 318 or 316 chassis? do i have to change mounting points?
e12,e23,early e24,e28 have the m30b34. M30b35 is found: late e24,e32,e34
It cuts a little, sounds nice though
The motor stock at the time?
Need to post up a vid soon
sedan or coupe ?
bonestock :)
is this even turbo-d yet?
Not really, the m30b35 is a engines that came stock in some e28's soo.
What gearbox and prop shaft did you use in this car?
I truly do not remember, i think it was a 1.6 gearbox and a mix of genuine prop shafts... sorry, I cant help more...
Differential?
Wouhaou... c'est moi qui tripe ou ce M30 marche du tonnerre?
dude please tell me what upgrades you have in this m30

I want to see how the exhaust looks
Not possible. Car doesn't exist for more than 10 years now. As far as I remember, that test was on bare exhaust collectors. Not even downpipes... ;)
haha, nice brutal sound!
Whats your exhaust setup here it sounds so angry haha
haha, NO exhaust at all, not even downpipe, it was just the headers
I guess thats why its so angry awesome!
There has to be something wrong with my M30b35.. it won't even think about spinning the tires lol.. Its in an 87 635csi.
WoR473 But i do suppose it has something to do with it being a US car
old comment but if its us car it will be the low comp engine with 180hp or something..
