The containers that China bought are sitting in the ports, leaving no room for drivers to come in with an empty for switch out to get a load. I work inline with port of JAX, believe me there is no shortage of truckers. The US with the help of the corporate lobbyists had visions of profits and cheaply made goods. Fill circle now is that we are held hostage to these cheap goods and now dependent of Asia, mostly China to feed our addiction. We need to bring back the critical productions back to this hemisphere, Mexico is a great source of affordable labor and we don't have to wait for ships to be unloaded. Right, because everything is a show run by the most intelligent? Well, I’ve got news for you, Kipp, everything is NOT a show and things are NOT automatically done by the most intelligent. In fact, things are run simply by the people who run them and that is based on how well they run them and NOT based solely on the perception of them having a high level of intelligence. Furthermore; things are NOT a show because oftentimes we have several versions of a similar thing that compete against each other to succeed and so the priority is not to SHOW themselves as being successful but to actually be successful because otherwise they would fail to exist as competitors. Make sure you are remembering this lesson I have taught you because I have had enough of your unwise commenting on my internet.

It’s is not a truck driver shortage at all. The reporters only interviewed the director of the port. Now they should interview the drivers with loaded containers and empty chassis trying to get offloaded or picking up containers. The drivers all say the same thing. Those union port workers are lazy and don’t do their job.

On October 16, 2020, the EPA reached a settlement agreement with California Air Resource Board (CARB) to shut down semi tractor rigs that were non-compliant with new California emission standards:
The trucking issue with California LA ports, ie the Port of Los Angeles (POLA) and the Port of Long Beach (POLB), is that all semi tractors have to be current with new California emissions standards. As a consequence, that mean trucks cannot be older than 3 years if they are to pick up or deliver containers at those ports. This issue wipes out approximately half of the fleet trucks used to move containers in/out of the port.

Maybe not enough truckers country wide (for when the train gets to it's destination or state), but they can find resources to offload those containers in California (I'm not buying it). The average pay for a Port authorized driver is $51k. The trucks that are permitted are over $100k. Add CA insurance, registration, fuel and the higher maintenance cost of California compliant emissions control and then you understand it’s not a shortage of trucks and drivers, it’s a flood of regulations and costs that make driving Port Authority cargo a stupid choice for any but the biggest companies and they have plenty of other business that isn’t a PITA. As someone who thought about being a truck driver, I can tell you that more respect has to be given to these men and women that deliver our goods. I've seen the same problem all over the world and these are just some of the problems:
-They are blamed for being late even if it's not their fault
    - Given illegally heavy loads
    - Asked to deliver a load in an impossible time that would have them speeding
    - Drivers in cars don't respect their blind spots, space cushions, don't let them merge, etc.
    - How about the sacrifice that they are away from their families for a long time and miss out on holidays.
    - There is also a health risk to being in a job that you sit for hours and the meal options are not the healthiest on the road.
I have done some jobs in my lifetime that don't add value to society such as valet parking (yes there is no need to have your car parked for you at the Ritz, you can manage without us). But truck drivers will be in high demand well into the robot era.

Sorry but American made things like Chevy, Ford and GMC r complete garbage, if more was made here it'll probably be the same trash

It has nothing to do with production the problem is distribution. The goods are here sitting waiting. We can produce our own goods all day long but if you don’t have any one to distribute it then you still have the exact same problem

@@Guerrillacreations Toyota still has much better quality and attention to detail than american companies last year Ford only stopped the assembly line a handful of times to fix problems, they focus more of quantity over quality, Toyota on the other hand stopped it over a thousand times to fix problems cause they care more about quality over quantity

Why would a company pay Americans minimum wage when they could pay a foreign country worker 50 cents a hour to make their products??? That why nothing is made here people.
