    I like Merkur products have several of their razors. Hopefully they're design a 3 piece razor with a bit more blade gap in the future!

    I love the old look of this razor. Looks like you are shaving with a Gillette tech. I always want to try it.

      Technically a tech would have had a closed comb, but I agree. It's got a great antique appearance

    Those names are the resulting sodium/potassium salts of fatty acids (aka soap) derived from the fats/oils used to produce the soap
    sodium/potassium hydroxide + water (=lye) + fats/oils -> sodium/potassium salts of fatty acids (soap) + glycerin.
    The chemical process is called saponifcation (of fats/oils).
    Sodium=Natrium, Potassium=Kalium (Alkalimetalle) in "German".
    Sodium soap (sodium salts of fatty acids)/Natriumseife -> hard soap (curd soap /toilet soap - Kernseife/Feinseife)
    Potassium soap (potassium salts of fatty acids)/Kaliumseife -> soft soap (liquid soap - Flüssigseife/Schmierseife).
    Shaving soaps are often a mix of both.
    For example "cocoate" by itself refers to the fatty acid components derived from coconut oil.
    Coconut oil itself is composed of various fatty acids, primarily lauric acid, myristic acid, palmitic acid, and oleic acid, among others.
    Lauric acid was originally identified and isolated from laurel oil, which is derived from the berries of the bay laurel tree - hence the name. However, it was later discovered to be abundant in coconut oil as well.
    When it's combined with sodium or potassium ions, it forms the salt compounds sodium cocoate and potassium cocoate, respectively.
    The salts of stearic acid are an important component for shaving soaps since they provide hardness and stability to the soap and produce a rich, stable and slick lather.

      Thanks for the explanation. Great info.

      @Heiko-shaves Also check out inci decoder (one word) online - very useful to decipher what's actually in your cosmetic products.
      For Prrso white for example they don't list the resulting salts of fatty acids but the raw materials (Sodium/Potassium Hydroxide, Coconut oil, etc.) used to make the soap - which is a bit misleading since it's not what's really in there anymore.

    Great shave. Same for me, I cannot go ATG on the upper lip.
    This Merkur 41c head looks so similar to the Gillette old type heads of the razors issued by US Army during WW1.
    I really have to try a soap with the CK6 formula at some point, I've heard so many good things about it. I'm curious about their "Cold Spices" line which is an attempt at bringing back the original old spice but with a hint of menthol I think.
    Have a great day!

    Great video as always Heiko. Can I suggest you review the 'TIMELESS AL SLANT'? It is VERY mild and efficient. I have one and it has now become my favorite. It is a slight slant, AL, with a NEGITIVE blade exposure. It is very unique and I think they have a good recipe for shaving....... :)

  • @steveboyd3455
    @steveboyd3455 5 месяцев назад +1

    Nice one! I have the 15C which is the same head, different handle. I think the head looks like the Gillette 'Old Type' from the 1920s. Nice and mild. The good thing about the comb is you get instant feedback if your angle is wrong; if you are leaving lather trails it means the blade is not on the skin pulling the lather away. Or that is my theory anyway.

    I remember that in your beginning you were wondering about the shave speed of some other reviewer ( sorry can't get up his name ),
    funny part is that you are getting more and more speed in your reviews.
    Ah well that's just me rambling on.
    Thank you again Heiko, next month I'm gonna buy a 41c ( my first open comb ), just to try it once or twice ( still anxious about them )
    Small point of minus: a lot of text and pictures surround your review and I think it's quit irritating ( well to me it is )

    Hallo Heiko, dein "Turm von Babel" steht doch bestimmt mitten in einer ganzen Skyline. Meine Skyline soll dieses Jahr nicht weiterwachsen. Funfact: In Deutschland gibt es nur 19 Wolkenkratzer - 18 in Frankfurt und 1 in Bonn.
    Wünsche euch schöne Feiertage.

    hi heiko great shave the 41c is such a aclasy looking razor , any chance you could do a review of the fatip l, ibrido as it seems to have gone unoticed on YT

    • @Heiko-shaves
      @Heiko-shaves  5 месяцев назад +1

      I have looked at them but haven't purchased one yet. Those razors get expensive after a while. Some companies are not willing to send over a review sample, so I have to purchase most everything that I review. Will see if I can fit one into the budget.
