About the Trash can drums, Lars accidentally played a demo out of tune, because the drums weren't tuned. So what happened is that they decided to use this same snare for the whole album. You know this actually took a year to record lel.
Which makes you sound just like a Metallica fanboy, sorry, this song and album are terrible, but I see you're one of those fans that think Metallica can do no wrong, but they have done many things wrong.
I was 15 when this album came out. Needless to say, I was a huge fan of the bands who influenced their sound on this album so I have always been one of the few I know or have heard of who actually enjoyed it. There really are a handful of great tracks on it. It’s an interesting listen, regardless of whether or not you feel it has substance.
Ah dude. This song in particular is not great. Listen to Master of Puppets, Battery, or For Whom the Bell Tolls. This song, even as a Metallica fan, is comically terrible.
@@SeekPsychiatricHelp it is unique. Name an album with a snare sound like it? And it shows how people do listen intently to Metallica, because how many other bands could release a successful album, and still have fans discussing the snare sound decades later? I can get a similar tone when I kick a football against my metal shed🙂
This album has its qualities. You want a polished, packaged pop metal album, there's Nickelback, Disturbed and Five Finger Death Punch. This album is raw as fuck, and that's what makes it great. To hell with the haters.
This album has some good ideas, but it still is a continuation of what they made on Load and Reload. It's just fucked up because of the awful drum sound and the way it's so high in the mix. There's no real great riffs but the songs' structure doesn't demand it. It's far from being the best Metallica album ever, but it sounds kinda pissed off
J'zargo You're part of a small minority then. I wouldn't say that St. Anger is the worst Metallica album (imo, it's Death Magnetic, not so much because of the songwritting, but the production is just appalling, with one of the less dynamic mastering ever), but the total lack of riffs and the annoying snares make me angry!
Right?! I always thought it gave the album a garage feeling. Honestly is a criminally unappreciated record. I actually have my spotify equalizer set up in a such way that this album shines
James Hetfield: Narration, chugs Kirk: Guitar without wah Rob: Doughs, bass Lars: Gongs, cymbals and pans The dude of the video: Crashing into a truck for 5 min straight

Good for you. Screw what others think. Metallica found you and you found them with the album. That's what counts. I hate the album, but I like this song.
St.Anger is a great album , thanks Metallica for new 72 season album too , amazing band , love you guys thanks for all this years , and masterpiece albums
An underrated album that gets better with each year that passes by. Absolutely love it. Great lyrics by James. The no solo rule does make it an album of its time....or is that timeless? Loved how angry it made "fans" too. 72 Seasons is a return to this lyrical style. Love it.
can say how long ive been searching for this song and all I could ever remember is the video of the truck crashing and someone drinking. not a single lyric or even the band. I just knew that it was a metal song. and there were times I was just gonna quit, but something kept telling me to "keep searching".
Actually, I think that was the point. I mean, when the lyrics "could I have my wasted days back" comes, I immediately think about James' youth. So I think that his look was specially chosen, because the song it's about something that happened in the past or haven't happened.
This song really does have a meaning. One of the verses, “My Lifestyle determines my death style.” Which is a very good point. “Will your lifestyle take you to heaven or hell” and “Will you be loved and remembered, or forgotten when you pass away.”
The snare drum sound, the cymbal sound and the bass drum sound are perfect. I do not understand those negative comments which have been expressed over the years.
If you think this studio recording of drums is objectively good, you haven’t listened closely enough to real engineers work. Check out some Electric Audio or God City Studio recordings. Both KG and SA are generational talents when it comes to recording percussion.
@@RIFT.CANYON.DREAMS it has nothing to do with the recording quality...Lars just remove something under the snare to purposely make it sound like that...it's not a post production type of tweak there it's actually how the fucking snare fucking sounds during the recording...on purpose.
@@lajeandom something under the snare? As in THE SNARES of the snare drum? Lol. Dude, listen to it with proper EQ. There’s videos on YT. Yes, his snare sound is terrible, but I’ve recorded terrible cheap drums and with proper EQing you can hide many sins.
@UK Orbit 7 The loose snare definitely doesn't help the song out. I mean it's not Cattle Decapitation or Deicide heavy, but it's heavy for Metallica, and not it the thrash way. They were trying a new sound, and most of the songs sucked.
I don't know what their motivation was for this song, but I think it's one that can make you think. It can even apply to the mood and situation of the country right now. These guys are fairly creative. I was born into classical and I admire their precision and phrasing. I'm not always in the mood for Metallica, but sometimes, they are just the right thing.

*PING PONG PING PONG BONG BING PONG*
James: Keeeeep seeeaaarchiiing
I can’t stop thinking about how accurate you described the sound?😂

I was 15 when this album came out. Needless to say, I was a huge fan of the bands who influenced their sound on this album so I have always been one of the few I know or have heard of who actually enjoyed it. There really are a handful of great tracks on it. It’s an interesting listen, regardless of whether or not you feel it has substance.
This is one of my favorites Metallica songs ngl, and i like that raw snare sound here
God i love this song, so fricking underrated.
An excellent piece of Metallica music. One of my favorites.
this is absolutely one of the albums that metallica have ever made
Not being a fan of this genre of music, or of Metallica, I read the haters and wanted to see how bad it was... and it isn't that bad. I kinda like it.
Ah dude. This song in particular is not great. Listen to Master of Puppets, Battery, or For Whom the Bell Tolls. This song, even as a Metallica fan, is comically terrible.
People are always hating, I'm a big Metalliica fan and sure there are better songs by Metallica, but this shit still kicks ass.
That snare sound is legendary.
trash can
No its not
@@SeekPsychiatricHelp it is unique. Name an album with a snare sound like it? And it shows how people do listen intently to Metallica, because how many other bands could release a successful album, and still have fans discussing the snare sound decades later?
I can get a similar tone when I kick a football against my metal shed🙂
I think it could have been fine..if it was mixed lower..it's just way too ear piercing
It’s known as the the St. Anger snare drum lol or St. Anger drum tuning
This was my favorite song to play on Guitar Hero:Metallica
That would be fun on guitar hero
+Kristopher Levine Still is my favorite to play on GH: Metallica.
Yea it is a fun song to play on GH i played it last night. When i listen to Metallica so do my neighbors
too 🤘
That "tic-tic" make me sick on Guitar Hero Metallica when i have to sing it
This album has its qualities. You want a polished, packaged pop metal album, there's Nickelback, Disturbed and Five Finger Death Punch. This album is raw as fuck, and that's what makes it great. To hell with the haters.
I would give your comment a +1 if the RUclips app wasn't trash on mobile.
This album has some good ideas, but it still is a continuation of what they made on Load and Reload. It's just fucked up because of the awful drum sound and the way it's so high in the mix. There's no real great riffs but the songs' structure doesn't demand it. It's far from being the best Metallica album ever, but it sounds kinda pissed off
+Alexandre Barata Imo, the snare idea from Lars is genius and I think it sounds amazing
+J'zargo you say it as though it's a groundbreaking discovery, all he did was turn the snares off
I think it's just because I listen to a lot of nu metal but I'm starting to fw this album 😭
This song has been stuck in my head for ages, good to finally listen to it.
St.Anger is a good album, it reaches what the band wanted to and brings different things, as every Metallica's albums
how can someone hate this song is so good snares give like special feeling i dont now why to me is sooo good
I really like this song as well
Right?! I always thought it gave the album a garage feeling. Honestly is a criminally unappreciated record. I actually have my spotify equalizer set up in a such way that this album shines
James Hetfield: Narration, chugs
Kirk: Guitar without wah
Rob: Doughs, bass
Lars: Gongs, cymbals and pans
The dude of the video: Crashing into a truck for 5 min straight

honestly i love this song. its super underated. i love the raw sound this album has. i think i've come to love the smare cause of how raw it sounds, and the guitar tone on this album is amazing
I like this album. I don’t care what anybody says.
I like St Anger too and I don't care what they say ❤
Clark going insane
bwahahahahahahahhahahhaa
Good for you. Screw what others think. Metallica found you and you found them with the album. That's what counts.
I hate the album, but I like this song.
Still Song for real man🤟🏻
St.Anger is a great album , thanks Metallica for new 72 season album too , amazing band , love you guys thanks for all this years , and masterpiece albums
I think Lars has understood what it means "thrash metal"
@Sydney Skrtic Dammit, you beat me to it! XD
Lol trash metal literally
@Sydney Skrtic trash bin metal
It’s called Industrial you n00bs
He seems to have realized his drum set has a snare
Hetfields hair looks perfect❤
It’s amazing how much better James’ voice sounds these days.
Lars looks like a high school janitor
I’m certain that there is a alternative universe Lars is a high school janitor, not far from this one
@@dannykiernan3378 dam, you just made me realize this comment existed

1:12 James is like: 😏😏😏😏
James: gimmie good albums ideas or I'll throw you in this trash can
Lars: wait no! *Clank
Hey that sounded cool
An underrated album that gets better with each year that passes by. Absolutely love it. Great lyrics by James. The no solo rule does make it an album of its time....or is that timeless? Loved how angry it made "fans" too. 72 Seasons is a return to this lyrical style. Love it.
"My lifestyle determines my death-style" is such a RAW-ASS LINE!
And it's written by Kirk Hammett
Raw as in undercooked
@@carcrashjayson bro the st anger memes and the hate train ended a while u can say what u rlly wNt abt the songs now 😹

Nah. It ain't that deep, but it's still pretty rad.
Honestly one of my favorite Metallica songs! I know I know...

truly none of the solos of all time...
can say how long ive been searching for this song and all I could ever remember is the video of the truck crashing and someone drinking. not a single lyric or even the band. I just knew that it was a metal song. and there were times I was just gonna quit, but something kept telling me to "keep searching".
"My lifestyle determines my deathstyle."
I hate that lyric so much.
I like it
Andrew D tbf, it's kind of factually correct.
Rising tide, that pushes to the other side
Why? It's brilliant. And true.
James looks like his 1992 self in this video. lol
RickGrimes41 Without the hair, that is.
I thought that was Dave grohl
And Lars stole Jason's 1992 look
Actually, I think that was the point. I mean, when the lyrics "could I have my wasted days back" comes, I immediately think about James' youth. So I think that his look was specially chosen, because the song it's about something that happened in the past or haven't happened.
Except the hair
The fact that they released a music video with it sounding like this might be the biggest power move in history.
3:14 is the best thing that I've seen in my life
Their music has gotten me through so much shit
same here
genuine guy you know you seem like a real bitch hahaha get the hell out of here
I really don't care what the fuck u think and u get the fuck out of here ur the one that commented on my video

No but it's one I posted so ...
I fell in love with this song when I first heard it.
Why didn't you marry it then
Did delivery for the company shown in this video for the last 10 years.. Today was my last day, it was a pretty frantic ride!
Um dos melhores refrões do Metallica. Não podemos negar isso
This song really does have a meaning. One of the verses, “My Lifestyle determines my death style.” Which is a very good point. “Will your lifestyle take you to heaven or hell” and “Will you be loved and remembered, or forgotten when you pass away.”
BeastEJ Damn, that’s deep
When the cameras switches angles when James say frantic that's literally my brain during a test
I love the face james makes at 1:12
1983: Searching. Seek and destroy...
2003: Keep searching...
2020-2021: Frantic tic tic tic tic TIKTOK
The snare drum sound, the cymbal sound and the bass drum sound are perfect. I do not understand those negative comments which have been expressed over the years.
PERFECTIONNN
IKR???
Ironically one of their heaviest songs was one of the most disliked.
@UK Orbit 7 The loose snare definitely doesn't help the song out.
I mean it's not Cattle Decapitation or Deicide heavy, but it's heavy for Metallica, and not it the thrash way.
They were trying a new sound, and most of the songs sucked.
A lot of people have wasted their days.
Instead lets look ahead to the future.
Did you hear Fight Fire With Fire?
play kill em all
I'm the only drummer who thinks that snare rocks ! Love it. So cutting. Harmonics. Lively. Bright.
Essa caixa aí ficou PERFEITA na boa e esse riff igual a nada que eu já vi. PESADO! Tipo chute no peito!
The motivation for this song was based off of Lars fear of death.
This is album isn't as bad as many people said. This song is sick and the main riff is great
why people hate St.Anger bruh, it`s amazing, and honestly this snare sound is freaking awesome
