  • Turkey hunt ing in the Colorado mountains is something I have always wanted to do. I flew up for a few days to hunt these mountains turkeys with my buddy outlaw. Within 24 hours we were both tagged out with beautiful Colorado rio grande turkeys. We cleaned the turkeys up and smoked them on the Traeger grill. Not taking the silver seem off made the meat very chewy but the taste of wild turkey is amazing! Hope you all enjoyed this video please share with friends and family!

I got my first ever turkey this year (in Kansas) and we cooked up one of the breasts this weekend (bird was a 2 year old tom that weighed 23 lbs to give you an idea on size... 10" beard 1-11/8" spurs). Basically put some butter and some Gates BBQ dry rub on it on one of the breasts and baked it in a roasting bag until the center got up to 160 degrees (took 70 minutes with the oven at 350 degrees). It was tougher than store bought turkey, but still not too bad. The wife and kids seemed to like it. I like your bacon wrapping idea and might try that with the other breast or if I get another bird this year.

i cook farmed turkeys on the traeger all the time im sure a wild turkey would be pretty much the same. there hands down the best meal on the smoker. spatchcock the turkey, inject all meat with “devils butter” (Cayanne, garlic powder, smoked paprika a stick of butter) then dry rub the turkey with your seasoning, set the smoker to 325’f. baste 1 hour in with garlic butter to crisp the skin. smoke till the breasts hit 165’f then pull off and let rest....... trust me!!!!! eat good! love the vids. and fyi pizzas on the smoker are amazing!
