School Bridge. Where I caught my first ever barbel (8lb) right at the end of the last day of a holiday in 1976, when it was ever drier than it looks in the video, staying at a fishing guest house in Throop called "Rosalie", since demolished for a housing estate. Met some top anglers there that year (who I won't name here for their privacy - although I am very tempted to! ;-) ). Wonderful memories of that place.

My uncle (roger othen)was a bailiff there years ago i fished there in the 70's as a kid ..the water looks very low and slow moving and looks over grown and unkept even at school bridge looks overgrown late 70's used to be known for good barbel and the mill pond good for huge bream good fishery though worth a visit i wonder if those large roach still roam the waters...

Roger was my fishing guru!!! I spent many, many hours in the 70's as a young teenager sitting behind him, watching him trot a float and he was a master at it. He always passed on tips and really taught me how to fish Throop. Single caster on a size 10 hook for those roach, I thought he was pulling my leg until I tried it at the bottom of pig island and ended up with 30 big roach including my first "2" at 2lb 3oz! Packed up with fish still feeding just to run to the millpool and brag to all my mates. Sadly missed, he left us far too early, he was a marvelous man that will always be in my memory!!!

    Very talented angler is Ray.
Such a shame he has finished his tuitions.
He has so much to teach.
    Very sad.
