I still run two FS5MII's and when you pair up with Atomos and some faster lenses, you have a camera with features you cannot get out of an FX3, or Alpha line. If you are filming serious shoots, the camera is just a tank. It is meant to be operated and not just set it and forget it. The Auto ND is absolutely fantastic. Once you understand and learn the camera, it is pretty hard to get away from it. For someone wanting to do interviews or studio shoots, I recommend this camera over others. Heck The outdoor filming experience is almost unmatched still in this price range. The limitations it has for it's age are made up for with it's benefits. For anyone jumping into this scene, I do recommend to spend triple the amount and go full frame. Cost-wise, it is a great camera for what you get though. I would not get the version 1 though. The Auto ND is really where this camera keeps an edge today though. I agree, the FX6 is nice, but when compared to the FX3, not having IBIS is an issue for me if I were comparing those two.
Thank you for your input. I've seen another channels use the mark II's and it's some quality content. Glad to see that this camera is still more useful today despite not being mentioned as much these days.
this is exactly how i feel about the FX6. i was running an A7S3 as my main camera and it was and still is great at certain things, but i don't enjoy rigging up my camera a ton. the huge value to me in bodies like the FS5, FS7 and FX6 are the ergonomics and how it naturally just works so much better for video shooters without having to add side handles and all that stuff. i thought people were being dramatic about not wanting to use "photo style bodies" as video cameras but now that i've made the leap, i dont want to use anything but my FX6. the A7S3 is still an incredible camera that has a place in my bag and so is the FX3, but you cant beat something that was purely created for video and camera operators. it is a dream
@@ChristianElia Yea, I am still not fully sold on the A7SIII. I actually enjoy my FS5MII cameras more mainly as you stated about ergonomics. With that said though. I would like to have an FX6 due to the ability to record higher quality in-body as well as have better auto focus especially as a solo shooter for when I need it. I just cannot seem to justify the cost right now considering I am not getting all that much more. Cinema cameras are great to film with I think.
Currently drooling a little bit on the Sony F55... turns out that a nearly top of the line cinema camera from 2013 still holds up in todays market, and used prices are basically the same as used fs7 prices
True, until you realize you need PL mount glass, don't have autofocus, and have to buy decade old media that is not in production anymore. I would highly recommend pricing out lenses and media before assuming the F55 is for you. I have two of them and never pick them up anymore because they end up weighting 3x as much as an FS7 or FX9.
Great video! The RAW on this camera turns it into a beast and literally 10x's its potential. Highly recommend trying it out. I only shoot my FS5 in RAW, and it matches a Venice and FX9 pretty good.
This is so good! Love seeing other people using the FS5. Such a great camera! I love mine. Just posted a video using the FS5 in Glacier National Park. Thanks for the the review.
Last year, I picked up a 'broken' FS5 with some $1500 worth of handy extras including a Zacuto EVF for just $800. For the sort of stuff I shoot, a camera that is fully rigged for ENG so I can lift it out of the case and on onto my shoulder and be rolling in seconds is essential. Also essential are built in NDs and a long range zoom because the documentary world does not stop whilst you change lenses. The FS5 mated to Sony's wonderful 18-110 servo zoom (with C Scan & Clear Image Zoom for 12:1 ratio) and all balanced by batteries and a third party recorder mounted behind the shoulder is an important element for me. I'm not interested in shooting RAW, Log or even 4K because I can capture almost uncompressed 10bit 4:2:2 HD to low cost SSDs on the Samurai 'Blade' SDI recorder which can quickly double as waveform monitor when rigged for studio work. The resultant I-fame timecoded files edit easily on even low spec field laptops but after tweaking slightly in Resolve, the final uncompressed Master can easily be bumped to 4K for release with Topaz Video AI where the final product looks far superior to shooting 4K with the FS5's internal 8bit 420 codec. Oh, and the 'broken' part? Just the OLED viewfinder's internal connection. I've never seen the need to repair it because the Zacuto EVF on the FS5''s LCD screen has proven to be a far superior option.
Thanks for sharing this! I recently heard of Topaz AI so this workflow is just ideal. Nobody wants to lug around a big heavy shogun monitor. That raw workflow just sounds so unideal. What a sweet workaround!
I have just bought the FS5 ii for 1.500 dollar. Some of the tech is showing its age, but it is still a great camera for cinematic footage and for run and gun work. Next week I’m picking up the Metabones Speedbooster for Canon EF lenses, and I have started looking for an used Atomos Ninja 5 +.
Great video! I love the idea of the fs5 but it didn’t seem to have much of a fan base once Sony started making other cameras - unlike the C100. I recently used the FS7 for a client project but between the FX30 size and weight I would never want something I can’t make extremely small. And the price difference of something this old and used and another FX30 to me just makes the choice so simple. But great info! Sony doesn’t seem to have the history of old great cameras like canon does but that why I switched recently - Sony finally got there!
I tried the C100 a few years ago! That was pretty nice too for the time that I had that. It's just so hard to beat this smaller form factors. What a great time to have access to all these amazing tools! Because of how light the FS5 was, I would love to just use that form factor in the future as opposed to a fully rigged out FX30.
Yeah definitely, I often use it already trough renting it for my company. For company videos, after movies and even interviews it's awesome. How would I check the hours? @@MikeBSalazar

Whats up with the harshness? As professionals are shooting more and more on “full frame” or “large format” cameras, these terms are becoming interchangeable. Super35 is just outdated lexicon from film days.
@@MikeBSalazar Sorry if it sounded harsh but in the PAL/25P/50P world, the term 'crop sensor' is largely unknown. Film & video formats tend to be referred to as Large Format, Full Frame, Super 35, (or APSC) Micro Four Thirds, etc.
Do you prefer the mirrorless camera form factor or something like this?

I did see the name of the camera floating around. Briefly looking at it, it looks amazing. That's a smart move on their part to use EF mount.
Did the DOP specify why this isn’t a cinema camera? Makes no sense to me. If FX30 is a cinema camera, why this one shouldn’t be?
I believe it was because compared to the FS7, the codecs and resolutions were not there amongst other things.
The FS5 Mark II is much better.
