There were hand-cranked contraptions that used ice & salt to cool cream etc. below freezing, and ice cream was a luxury or party item, because it took expensive ice and a lot of labour: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ice_cream#Production
Thanks for your tremendous effort . I am so interested in etymology and i have just launched a channel in which i discuss most of topics about the history and etymology of English . I am so interested to have one to one discussion with you regarding the field of etymology in general . How can we make that possible?
To be fair, “What Mrs. Fisher Knows About Old Southern Cooking” is probably the best cookbook title I’ve ever heard.
The table of contents includes ice cream. How did they make ice cream in the 1800s before refrigeration?

Also, if you were wealthy, the first refrigerator was made in the first half of the 1800s.
Tack! Intressant information.

Do you guys know what a Scrabmagg is ? As in ' The Beautiful Scrabmagg ' a tune found in Playfords dancing master .
Sorry, no -- it's not in the OED, and we haven't seen it before. "Scrab" can be "crab" as in crabapple, but beyond that we have no idea!
@@Alliterative Thanks . I wonder if anyone knows .
I like this video it is cool
Cool shirt 🤘
Thanks -- glad someone noticed! :)
Is this the longest gap between a video and an Endnote?
Yes, though this past Hallowe'en we did put out an Endnote that went with the previous year's video. This is definitely a new record though!
