Yeah that's not a molcajete, it's just a stone mortar and pestle. (A molcajete is a type of mortar and pestle but not all mortar and pestles are a molcajetes)
The alcohol was a good idea. Just remember that mortar and pestles are porous, so if you put anything in them that's liquid, it's going to seep in and be harder to clean. You can use the same cleaning techniques that you use on your other instruments, though. It's safe on ceramic.
Alcohol is very volatile, meaning it evaporates quickly. I doubt that it stays behind. Knowledge background: im a pharmacist and we study a lot of chemistry
@@N08R76H The inside is not glazed. You can tell by the roughness of it that it is, in fact, porous. That's why it stained like that, and that's why the inside and the end are not glossy. I've glazed enough pottery to know the difference lol.
@@thespqrguy Yeah, I'm a medical laboratory scientist with a minor in chemistry, don't worry. The second part was aimed at the lipgloss, not the alcohol haha.
Mortar and pestles are typically meant to break down and combine herbs and powder products. You CAN use liquids but as others have said, it's porous so it will often stain. I would avoid harsh chemicals, but dish soap is absolutely fine.
Girl this isn’t a molcajete it’s just a regular mortar and pestle 😭😂 molcajete are made from volcanic rock which makes them different from a regularly mortar and pestle
Hey! So the ceramic is very porous so when pharmacists need to compound something that either is liquid or stains easily they use glass ones instead hope that helps!
Ceramic is usually safe to wash in water and using dish soap, as long as it’s not air dried. But with this stain I suggest magic erasers. I usually pair with Lysol bleach spray with comet on top to make a paste and use the sponge to scrub away the stain after it sits for a bit.
Then you don't know the difference between a glazed ceramic and an unglazed. This is porous and rough thus unglazed. Most dishware is glazed, glossy and smooth
If you want unglazed ceramic fully clean you can boil it on the stove, with a little dawn. However there are things to be careful of… First and foremost is heat shock, (going from very hot to very cold suddenly) ceramic had to be fired at upwards of 3000 degrees, so your stove’s not going to hurt it, but clay like everything else, expands and contracts with heat and cold, and there is not enough elasticity in it like metal has, to allow for that to happen suddenly and it will crack. So put the ceramic in the cold water and heat it up and then when you’re done let it cool down naturally. This may help get the remaining stains out.
Can try a soak in hot water with equal parts citric acid powder and baking soda. 😊 Denture cleaner tablets can also help with stains. I use the first combo for tea stains on teaware. Not sure how well it will do on pigments, but worth a try.
Have u tried a glass, mortar & pestle. They don't stain and they're Not as porous, so they don't tend to stick. I use it for making acrylic paint & resin paste. Glass is the only one that I have found. That has worked on my end. Especially when it comes to blending smoothly, your pigments.
From someone who has a ceramic... vase.. You did right with the alcohol. Whenever I need to thoroughly clean it I put it in a ziplock bag filled with isopropyl alcohol and some salt, let it soak for a while then good as new! Also most dishes are ceramic, so depending on the top coating it's likely dishwasher safe as well.
Try some oil like coconut oil or even vegetable oil, most cosmetics(if not all) are oil soluble and you could also try a makeup remover... i also recommend trying a castille soap since that's a very oil/fat heavy soap and it dissolves like everything, including blood(fyi)
Use the pink stuff because that works because it’s not really clean that much by the way I make lip glosses too and it helps when I have got a bit messy
The stains look pretty! But the glaze means you can wash it with any sort of sponge etc. but rubbing alcohol is my go-to for oil-based stains. Rubbing alcohol is great at "eating" oil-based products, that's why it's the main ingredient in nail dehydrators and prep products.
As a mexican, you calling it a molcajete made my day
A molcajete is made with volcanic rock

But it's not, it's a mortar and pestle?
Oh yeah I think the stains make it look a lot more beautiful! You did good job cleaning all of that out, you did the best you could.

Molcajete and mortar and pestle are different. That’s a mortar and pestle
Pharmacy school taught me using a glass mortar and pestle on things with pigment and fragrance can prevent stains

As a mexican, that is not a molcajete, it is a mortero or mortar, different things.
However your pronunciation is amazing.
Thank you lol I knew this wasn’t a molcajete but for the life of me I could not think of the correct name
I have the same one, permanently stained from flowers & berries, but no worries it works just the same and I think it gives it character :)
I have the same one, I use it to crush pigments. Mine is stained, have never been able to remove it.
What is the name of it and where I can buy it?
microfiber towels or magic eraser and any makeup remover!!! works wonders girlie!!!
since its ceramic the makeup remover would prob get inside it and make her not able to use it
Wait but that color was so pretty 👀👀👀
Ikr
Luv the cosmetic
Girl this isn’t a molcajete it’s just a regular mortar and pestle 😭😂 molcajete are made from volcanic rock which makes them different from a regularly mortar and pestle
Use apple cider vinegar, sodium bicarbonate and soap. Works wonders on ceramic.

"I don't really know how to clean ceramic"
Um... you literally clean it like any other regular bowl.
This was actually VERY satisfying 😮
I’m sorry but that’s not a molcajete that’s just a normal mortar and pestle 🤦♀️
1000th comment!!🎉🎉❤❤
girl, I’m 14 and even I know that you just clean ceramic like any other dish. most plates are made out of ceramic, it’s nothing special.
Then you don't know the difference between a glazed ceramic and an unglazed. This is porous and rough thus unglazed. Most dishware is glazed, glossy and smooth
@@jazx5418 OK sweetheart I do, and if you actually looked at the bowl, you would see that it is glazed
That color is so cute girly pop
that's a mortero, not a molcajete. molcajetes are made out of stone, not ceramic and you can't wash a molcajete with soap, unlike morteros :)
Molcajete is the Spanish word for mortar and pestle
@@ihateu5656 nope, mortar and pestle is "mortero y pistilo", molcajete is a diffetent thing
Is it supposed to be white? I think the pink looks good 😅
No offense bestie, but if you weren't sure how to clean ceramic then why not try to look it up before pouring chemicals all over it? 😂
I GOT SO MANY GOOSEBUMPS LISTENING TO THIS 😭😭😭😭😭😭
Girl that is not….. that is a mortar and pestle that we use for drugs in the pharmacy you’re looking for a different tool

The side eye got me on the floor
You can try using Rice, uncooked rice, using it to grind up, might help with the stains.
It has a dent but no making fun i love ur shorts
Do you still have to use salt to smooth it out or is it different because it's ceramic?
this is a morter and pestel. molcajete are stone and much larger.
Mixing stick? Issa pestle..
Bicarb-soda and water or vinegar and bicarb-soda😊
Try using domestos. It's an South African product and removes stanes immediately 😅
Try magic erasers or melamine sponges! I use them on anything and it activates with just water. :3
