    Thank you for talking about your experience with these drugs. I'm learning about them in one of my classes at college and it really helped me to understand the greater depth of what people go through when they're taking them. So once again thank you. You do a really good job of explaining yourself.

    Thank you for your information . I am also schizophrenic with bipolar . I am 67 yrs old . My life was 41 years of hell with a train wreck every five years !! Until a hospital doctor prescribed Risperidone. and citalopram . Now I have had 11 years of mental health and my family gave me control of my money . And I moved into independent senior apartment living where I have many good friends . I still have one persistent problem , deep regret . I have done hurtful things ( to put it mildly ) because of my delusions , and I can’t get over it . All my life I have had depression in the morning , and now morning is when I am tortured with guilt .

    I have a brother with psychotic episodes. No diagnosis yet, but it's been a couple years now and its fairly obvious what it is. He also has aspergers, so his insight isn't nearly as good as yours even when he isn't psychotic. When you're psychotic, do you at all ever have any insight where you think "hold on, this might just be a psychotic episode"? Also, when you aren't psychotic, do you ever still believe things that may not be real at times? You're a good guy, man. Keep going

    • @MyOddExperiences
      @MyOddExperiences  4 года назад +1

      When I'm in the middle of the episode I don't really have room in my mind to doubt my perceptions, but when I'm on the edge of one I do and it can help me keep myself in reality. I do this well enough to have not had an episode in a very long time, at least a couple years. I do have intrusive and admittedly delusional thoughts sometimes when I'm otherwise fine to this day and I have to teach myself to catch myself and talk myself out of it with rationalization and grounding techniques. Therapy has helped a lot for that. Thank you very much for your support, I hope the best for you and your brother.

    I had the exact same experiences with abilify and seroquel as you. I'm currently on Seroquel and I love it. Minus the weight gain it fixed a lot of my problems. The constant rumination, undersleeping or oversleeping, lack of appetite or desire for food, intense anxiety and paranoia, deep depression, and inability to slow my mind down. I've been on it for 14 months and it honestly saved my life. Abilify I took for 4 days and I hated it. It gave me this weird slightly drowsy feeling but I could not sit still. I don't have schizophrenia but Bipolar Disorder Type 2. Anyways thank you for sharing your experiences, mental illness doesn't run in my family so I don't really have much people to relate to.

      TaysonPlaysGuitar It’s always good to know you’re not alone. Seroquel has a mixed reputation but for the reasons you shared I mostly like it. Like it has with you, I think it saved my life.

    I have schizo affective disorder and I take Lamotrigine and Seroquel and I specifically chose these from my schooling in Psychology. I think this combo has helped me entirely with my overall lust for life and less symptoms entirely. I was very angry and depressed; I think that you should maybe talk to your psychiatrist about going down to minimal prescriptions. This combo has been shown in research to provide amazing results and I recommend if it’s legal smoke weed. Less thc and more CBD is great; psychosis is possible with too thc but it helps with feeling and creativity. I wish you the best. I had a lot of the same issues you have. Please be safe.

      good luck to you my friend, I have been diagnosed too it was 12 years ago. Years after years I saw progress, and I am far better now. Do you have any passion or do you think you have an intellectual or artistic interest ? If yes, I advice you to go "all in" in it, meaning to invest yourself in something you like in order to get better and better. that can be piano, that can be studying history, thst can be studying economy, or programming. For me, it has been mathematics. and having an interest and goals related to it and outside of the disease was of priceless help for me. The rewards that i got from this activity diminished year by year the symptoms, so i would really advice you to sit down what you would like to do / what you love and want to spend time on. Might not be today if you are feeling too bad, but keep it in your mind, it is not a hurry.

    I had the same problem with Abilify as you did, I couldn't stand it. I liked Seroquel better too. Also if you're looking for something for anxiety that is not a benzo and not addicting I recommend asking about Vistaril (Hydroxyzine) or Tenex (Guanfacine). Those are the 2 that have worked the best for me. I have a video on my channel about them if you're interested. I'm currently taking Invega, Wellbutrin, Tenex, and Strattera for my Schizoaffective and ADHD.

      Hyperanthropos , I didn’t get muscle shakes but my hands do shake due to my condition. It’s possible it’s from meds but I don’t think it is.
      I didn’t use benzos frequently enough to get withdrawals. I infrequently used a lot of them at a time or used the proper dose. It had very mild to no effect when I had to quit.

    What happens when you try to touch a hallucination,? Disappear?
    I mean, if you're seeing someone.
    Wouldn't it be nice for you to go to that person and try to touch him or her?
    Perhaps after doing this several times the fear will reduce!

    • @MyOddExperiences
      @MyOddExperiences  4 года назад +1

      minha casa My hallucinations, at least the ones I have now, don’t really work like that. They don’t really fill in 3D space. They usually either distort space or project themselves on surfaces like a projector would do to a surface. That or they exist in darkness and I can’t reach out at something that’s behind closed eyelids or infinitely far in the vastness of the darkness. I only really see stuff that fills space for a split second or before I was on meds where the hallucinations could touch me but I never thought to touch them because I was afraid.

      ugly duckling I tried niacin for a few months, maybe about four. I didn’t notice any differences personally but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t work. It’s hard to say there was an effect especially because of changes in medication at the time and how those medications were mostly pretty effective already.

      @@MyOddExperiences Hi again. I am just wondering if you're taking fish oil supplement. I read in some studies that people with schizophrenia have low omega 3 in their blood. I have a niece who had a psychotic break last month, so I am educating myself.
      I saw in one of your videos that you have difficulty relearning things. I am taking fish oil regularly and I feel a big difference in my memory retention.

    I hate to be that guy but your degree of weight gain seems alarming. It took me years to find the ideal balance. Multiple meds compound the effect of weight gain. Then again, I do not have schizophrenia, rather severe depression. Take care man.

    • @MyOddExperiences
      @MyOddExperiences  4 года назад +5

      Alaïd Idnalid It is a pretty serious issue, I’m about 60 pounds over the weight I was at when I was fit, before my schizophrenia took effect.
      The medication isn’t the only factor, having anxiety over everything meant I never wanted to go out and do anything, and I had replaced a drug habit with an eating habit. I no longer eat impulsively and I’m slowly becoming more active, hopefully that means weight loss in the future!

    • @alaididnalid7660
      @alaididnalid7660 4 года назад

      @@MyOddExperiences so you're saying the eating habit was at some point not induced by meds at all? Just asking because some meds actually cause eating disorder in me. Still take anti psychotic but cut out the Lyrica and I'm 15 pounds lighter now.

      Paxil seemed to help me with long-term anxiety/panic attacks that got worse and previously were treated for years with Xanax (as needed). But I developed a lack of motivation and put on weight and so tapered off it. Regular exercise (mostly walking) has helped.
