Hey stew. I'm looking to get one of the anbernics. First time retro player. Would you recommend the metal 351m given the extra weight vs the 351p? I was tossing up the new 351mp which someone said 2 storage slot cards was handy. But apart from the metal factor and 4:3 aspect screen wondering if fatigue ergonomics wise the plastic models were better? Some otherwise suggested a vertical handheld form like the 351v that maintains 4:3 ratios. I'm an old ps1 player so would love to branch there and revisit some gba games (which I hear better suits 3:2 in contrast to ps1 4:3). Which model or aspect ratios and form factors suit more flexibility.to explore other consoles I've never played (beyond ps1/GBA intentions)?

Some promising looking handhelds here, for sure. I definitely want to wait out the Analogue Pocket and see what happens. I have a decent collection of cartridges and love the idea of still being able to use them. I have also been really impressed with my Mega Sg in terms of build quality and functionality, so I feel pretty confident that it will be a high quality device. I do feel like some of the other options may be quite a bit more ergonomic though, so I guess we'll see what happens.

I must say, as old as the RK3326 may be, I love it. Sure I want upgrades, but this chip can:
    1. Play at much lower latency than anything with Android
    2. Run on cool temps
    3. Be in affordable devices
For an upgrade, is there other SoC they could use that would be all this but be significantly faster?
In this video the only one that has any possibility of having that is the Powkiddy Max 2 and it's unlikely as you pointed out, sadly... everything else is Android based. Oh, and FPGA, but that thing neither supports RetroArch nor will it even come out :D

@@RetroDodo for me, it's the fact that they're getting bigger, so less emphasis is put on portability. I don't want a Nintendo switch sized psp emulator. I want something that isn't a big deal to carry around with me. Between a huge handheld, and just using my phone with controller, I'll leave the handheld at home.

@@RetroDodo in my specific case my Snapdragon phone can run almost anything I care flawlessly... So I would prefer carrying around a joypad and play anything I like rather than a phone And a separate handheld which happens to take more room than the phone itself.. Luckily battery and everything are very durable and I don't even have time for long gaming sessions 😂

Same here, I have a Samsung note 20+, I could probably run any emulator but I don't want to out that much heat stress on this phone yet lol the Odin looks nice if it can run ps2 games smoothly, I'll pay whatever they want on the spot, granted quality is top notch, as well as build quality and button layout.
Alternatively, I could just buy a controller attachment for my phone and play that way as you mention, saved me the money but like I said, I wouldn't want to put that much stress on this phone yet, so a device like the Odin would be nice for me. We'll have to wait and see what comes out.
I do think it's crazy that in 2021, we don't have good enough emulators yet, most of the stuff out there is next to trash. I mean, emulation isn't as popular so I guess companies don't want to get too invested in a niche kind of gaming, sure a lot of us enjoy old games and emulators, but as whole we are a very small group of gamers.

One interesting and awesome fact: The RG351V with openelec is able to run the lcd at 50p and 60p which is crucial for amiga and c64 stutterfree emulation (50 Hz). The only other handheld i had so far that can do this was the OpenPandora in 2009. I just ordered 2 RG351MP and will look if that one can do this too.
