    Thanks. I damaged a receiver's toslink port a while back. I remapped a 2nd port to replace it, but if I get the urge to attempt a fix, this will be useful.

    Excellent fix sir! I repaired office machines for 40 years and I fixed a couple of ribbon cable connectors that way. What a miserable product that is. The first time I installed an optical cable I didn't know I was supposed to remove the little rubber tip. That was almost a disaster. I had two Rocket Fish HDMI cables. One totally separated when turned the receiver 90 degrees and the cable was not tight. One separated when I grabbed it properly at the connector and pulled. Total junk.

    My door broke on my wiim as well. Your solution is more elegant than my duct tape fix. i have one piece of tape holding the wiim down and another piece holding the optical in. I hope to be as fancy as you one day! Looking forward to your c3050 review.

    My OG Wiim Mini was violently crushed between my concrete basement floor and a falling speaker. I used the jaws of life (needle nose players) and CPR (moved/poked some wires around solder joints like nobody’s business) and…purchased a new one. Glad they’re cheap!

    No greater joy than that of a mechanical idiot fixing something ( I'm thinking of myself here, not you, Bob). My subwoofer LED failed (I thought it was the whole sub, but I was testing it with solo piano music. Duh !).
    Despite it being well out of warranty, Tom of BK electronics sent me a new LED for free, and I fixed it, then broke it by shorting the legs, then fixed it again last week.
    Almost as good as the birth of my first child and much less messy
    So great customer service and a successful fix. Awesome.

    This gave me a good hint toward a fix: With my optical cables I can't lay down a piece of plastic on top of the whole connecter: the connector is a lot bigger than the actual part which goes in to the (in my case) soundcard. I ended up cutting a small piece of plastic from an old creditcard an put it on top of the piece which goes into the soundcard, this I taped with very thin painters tape. this worked also great. Its now tight :)

    I had the same problem , only with a brand new LG $1300 TV! I inadvertently pulled the cable sideways and broke the door. Replacing the jack was out of the question. My solution was to use a small double-stick pad. I cut a hole in the pad to pass the cable through so that the pad stopped at the first step on the digital cable barrel. I then trimmed all around the pad to make it round. When I inserted the cable with the pad on it into the broken jack, the front side of the pad adhered to the surface around the jack, keeping it in place. The very small thickness of the double stick pad did not interfere with its ability to optically couple with the transmit probe inside the jack. As long as I don't remove the plug often, it will hold indefinitely. If the pad eventually loses its stickiness, I'll just replace it, OR I'll try your solution!

    I had to come back to this video. I'm having problems with the other kind of port, and I think I might have to replace my vintage 90s Nakamichi CD player because of it. I'm feeding an SMSL SU-1 dac through an optical switcher (J Tech Digital, I love it. Allows me to hook up my TV, Wiim Mini, and CD player to my DAC and they all sound awesome through a Yamaha receiver with Boston Acoustics A100s). But the sound always drops out after a few songs (or sometimes not at all) from the CD player and to fix it I have to unplug the Toslink from the back of the CD player and plug it back in. Which is a pain. I end up just pushing the CD button on the receiver and skip the DAC (the SU-1 definitely has better resolution than the stock DAC in the old Nakamichi).
    It's not a fancy CD player but it has a fancy name and it looks good and I hate to have to replace it.

    Good idea---expensive mcIntosh preamps use the same cheap gated port, and I broke mine too. A piece of gear I have will only connect optically so I bought a convertor "cube"--optical to HDMI or some such. Would never have thought about a field expedient fix of the port itself. Doesn't youtube require like 10 or 100K subscribers or some gigormous amount before they even start throwing pennies? Anyway keep making content. Not all about making $$.

    If the Wiim had a single coaxial out port. Would you use the coaxial or the optical out? Which would sound better?

    • @UnitedStatesofAnalog
      @UnitedStatesofAnalog  9 месяцев назад

      Jury is out on that. I would probably go coaxial because of my optical failure. WiiM Pro has coaxial out. Should upgrade that Mini.

  • @Feliciano12v
    @Feliciano12v 9 месяцев назад +1
