The AFC Central 1999-2001 had quite a bit of that.

Ravens should've stuck with Cunningham the rest of season, we were 10 and 6 despite Elvis grbac he sucked. Randall played 2 games and won both including Steelers in Pittsburgh where the Ravens ended up losing to them in divisional round, billick should've pulled grbac at halftime he was giving the game away even though defense and special teams kept it close for awhile. Just couldn't overcome Elvis grbac turnovers.
It wasn’t Grbac that was the problem. It was the lack of pass protection and the weak running game. Grbac just ended up being the scapegoat.
Elvis had other issues in his life that wasn't football related during this time. I don't think he was focus every week. But definitely having Jamal Lewis go down for the whole season was a devastating blow. The Ravens had some receivers like Todd Heap, Shannon Sharpe, Stokely and Ismail. I think we could have won the superbowl twice but losing Lewis was a huge deal.
Just like the previous matchup in Baltimore, this one came down to the wire.
