@@WayPointSurvival Definitely the reality. And you cannot tell me an old 'bo would not have had a modern ferro rod in his vest pocket if he could have.
I always appreciate your no-nonsense, VERY practical survival & prepper vids, James. It's good to have modern prep-tech but, as you've pointed out many times, we need to know the 'old' pre-power ways. Folks were able to live pretty well back then, in spite of circumstances, with a little know-how and ingenuity.
I bought one of the solar panel charger kits (without the power bank) on amazon back in october 2023 for 75$. I used it several times to charge my phone while out camping, it worked great. Solid product for sure
Hi James! I've added this one to my bucket list. Just now, I am saving up for that pot roast I've been dreaming of. I attempted to take out a beef bank loan, but the loan officer told me I needed to be more realistic in my wishes.
Cool set up forsure, I’ve always liked the idea of being able to plug a house hold item into those juice box’s, going camping? Take your bedside lamp with ya! 🙈😂
Thank you. I am trying to do research to find a solution for camping at festivals where running a gas generator is not ideal. Like when it is lunch time and hot. A fan and an option to charge cellphones is all I need. I still have the gas generators to power the camper but middle of the day when everyone wants a snack and a place to relax, not the best time to be burning gas in the generator just for a fan. Sure my refrigerator is already on my camper's battery power but my camper is in low power mode the outlets don't work unless I'm running the gas generator...... This was already at the top of my list but your review helped clear up a few things. Mostly in the department of I know jack cr__ about this stuff.
They are handy gadgets or necessity's , which ever you want to call them. For Hurricane season I have the Bluetti EB3A 600 watt and the solar panel to charge it. It's also great for car camping by furnishing power without the power company being present.
Awesome base unit, James. Very nice detailed coverage. But as for panels, I'd prefer figuring out how to wire my two 50W solar panel units together. One is a folding wallet, the other is a lightweight flat flexible panel. Could you do a video on that, please? Namaste'.
Thanks for watching and for the suggestion! However, I am not an electrician even though I know something about electricity. The most important thing is to have the right connectors for your specific units and know how to wire them either in parallel or series for the task at hand. That would be something that you would have to research on your own as it would relate specifically to the units that you have.
Very pricey considering you can get a 600 wt Bluetti on sale for about $200. But the solar panel a good price to keep in a vehicle in case you forget your larger panels.
@@WayPointSurvival Thanks for your reply. I very much enjoyed your recent "Camp like a Hobo" 1930's edition. Maybe make a series of how different decades the "rubber tramps" have survived..? I always enjoy your content, thank you 😁👍
Well, it's power output is rather limited but I ordered the combo set and intend to try out it's function fully then charge it and put it in a EMP proof container along with a solar rechargable multi band receiver and several dual band ham transceivers and accouterments just to CMA...
Looks like an awesome unit. I could see a lot of potential for that, especially at deer camp, camping, outdoor activities and like you said for videoing. Thanks for sharing. Juddie - J & J TOA
I have said this before, you really need to Papa train someday run a few cities down about 500 miles. Sleep in the woods and then ride a train back. Would make for a great video. God bless have a great day.
My wife just reminded me that I should have mentioned that som CPAP machines require a 12 volt adapter, depending on the type of CPAP, as well as the type of power source.
I wonder how well it would take to an electric skillet or crockpot? In a EMP event, I think that would be more important than charging my phone. lol.. :D
Perhaps someday. However, I would recommend that you watch both Hobo Roadrunner and Hobo Shoestring on RUclips as they have excellent presentations of modern hobo gear.
So if they are stowed in the pack, it’s not going to get “crushed or bent” out of shape? Or just anything to damage and lower the charging capabilities of the panels. It’s crazy how much power you lose when you lose one cell!
@Wanderer5891 I think that as long as it is properly folded and stowed they should be fine as long as you don't step on it or put excess pressure on it.
0:27 I ordered the set 5 days ago when this video first aired and received a email order acknowledgement. The Unit arrived yesterday... Well, the power unit arrived no solar panel and no invoice. I'm Disappointed that the only way to contact the company is email or the contact point on their website. Which I did today... So wait and see if they come thru or initiate a claim or return unit... Only have 2 weeks for that though... Can't go camping without the solar panel so I guess I wait them out for a while at least...Well now I've been trying to get a reply to no avail tried both E- Mail and the message board in their website, gave them my order number explained the problem no answer this will be day 6 since I contacted them. No phone number listed is a total pain. No way to get an RMA or return address at this point I'M NOT A HAPPY CAMPER... 🤬🤬🤬🤬😡😡😡😡😡😡😡🤬🤬🤬🤬
0:27 Thanks for the information... Just wish they would let me know what's happening, an ETA estimate, an acknowledgement of the problem something... I appreciate your response .

I truly enjoy how you shift from 1930s hobo techniques and tools to cutting edge 21st century stuff
Thanks so much! The reality is that we live in the 21st century but we always need to keep the older skill set alive and viable too!

I went with the ecoflow for my big one... haven't picked up a smaller unit yet... was looking at jackery, but this one is a little better
Excellent! It's a great little unit!

This is a great deal on the whole package. Not like some of the more expensive models that cost an arm and a leg.
True!
I think this would be great in your car for a local road trip thank you
Definitely!
They work great for a power source for a air mattress pump or airing pool floats.
Cool little product, I'll keep this in mind
Thanks!
Every hobo needs one of these in his packs, lol!
Certainly the modern day rubber tramps could use this!

I have sleep apnea. Do you? Had you switched off the humidifier for the test. I think most people do when they try remote power.
I did not switch off the humidifier. That might have indeed helped it to run longer.

Cool product review. Are you considering the idea of scenario videos?
I did one of those with an e-bike a couple of years ago.
@@WayPointSurvival I saw that one. It was great, I was hoping for more. It’s totally relevant more today.

No test of the Solar panel?
Not in this video.
I wonder how well it would take to an electric skillet or crockpot? In a EMP event, I think that would be more important than charging my phone. lol.. :D
You would have to check how much power the skillet or Crock-Pot requires. They do have larger units if you wish to use those.
That is affordable. Thank you

can you do a video on what a modern hobo would cary
Perhaps someday. However, I would recommend that you watch both Hobo Roadrunner and Hobo Shoestring on RUclips as they have excellent presentations of modern hobo gear.

What about a small heater
I don't think it has enough Watts for that.

i cou;d not bring up their site. said it was down.
Hopefully they got it working again. Thanks for watching!

How durable are the panels?
They are pretty tough! Of course, I wouldn't stand on them or anything but for general use they should last quite a long time.
Needed for the AC, beer fridge and TV, when camping.
It would be great for camping!
