Again, I thank you so very much for this. Having grown up in this town, seeing all the old buildings almost brought me to tears. It has been about 15 - 20 years since I was there (I now live in the Pacific Northwest since 1985), and seeing this drive was like going home again. If you ever drive out around the Rock Chapel area, I attended the Rock Chapel United Methodist church as a kid, my Foster Mom and Dad are both buried there, along woth most of her relatives...the King family was a pioneer of the Lithonia area and had a bit of money and property early on. She had brothers named Arthur and Harold, and Ledford, along with Evie and Mattie for sisters (there were others I did not know)...the cemetery is a National Historical site along with the church (though now it is a all black church)...I only mention that because no blacks ever attended there in the 60's and 70's while I lived in that town. The all resided on the Bruce Street side of Lithonia, and I remember when the schools were integrated in about 1961...I was in the 5th grade at Redan Elementary, and later attended Lithonia High, home of the Bulldogs. All changed now. Anyway, bless you for these videos.
mfdaniel01 Thank you for the visit back to my old home town. It has been years since I have seen these sights and I appreciate the time that you spent producing this journey.
mfdaniel, I also grew up in Lithonia, went to Redan and then LHS...graduated 1973. I also so thoroughly enjoy every time Rick drives thru the old homeplaces. He went and did a little tour at Rock Chapel Methodist church for me, got to see my Foster Mom's gravesite (Dixon, Virgie) and the old historical church. Went there as a kid...ahhh, memories...
Glad you enjoyed the video. If you need help with your purchase I may be able to help depending on my schedule. I am a Realtor, but i am doing a remodel for a client in Rome Georgia and my time is limited. Thank you for letting me know you enjoyed the video
On my way back to Armuchee Ga yesterday I did a video from Turner Hill in Lithonia to Glenwood Ave. in Atlanta. I will send you the link to the video when i get it uploaded so you can see a Sunday afternoon drive in
I do not know that I would call Lithonia "the hood" but it in some parts it could be close. I have always liked Lithonia, but just like anywhere nowadays you need to be aware of your surroundings at all times. Thank you for your comment and for watching the videos
@@Crowbirdvideos When I was growing up there, Lithonia was mostly all white, but now it is almost totally all black, and the crime has gone through the roof. Shootings, gangs, just an awful place I would NEVER move back to...my foster family, the Kings, were some of the early settlers and were pretty wealthy...I grew up on S. Deshon Rd, had 25 acres to explore on, and all the roundabout neighbors had land like that so it was mostly all wild, and a kid could just get lost out in those woods having so much fun. The Scuppernongs and muscadines and Plums grew wild and plentiful. What a great life in those days.
Again, I thank you so very much for this.

I'm thinking of buying a home in Lithonia. How far/long is the commute to Atlanta? Any info is helpful. Great content.
Distance is about 20 miles depending on what part of Atlanta, time can be as short as 20 minuets of not sure depending on traffic.
